Hello Wagner, I thought i would drop a comment and let you know how everything went with the pi400 in the end. So i started by installing all available OS using PINN Lite on the SSD, all except for one of the Ubuntu, Arch and lineageOS. I then did a second setup with only Twister, RPiOS 32 and 64, Retropie and Lakka. Then I did a 3rd with just Twister, RPiOS 64 and Retropie. Then just today i decided to go with Twister on the sdhc and the SSD for all the games (complete romsets for everything except cd based systems, which I have 30is of each (CDI, cd32, pcecd, 3do, pcfx etc) and any and all fan translated games. More Dreamcast, Saturn and PS1 stuff and tons of name/FBA sets, even Naomi and atomiswave. I am really grateful for your Twister recommendation. I let my 9 year old Niece have free run of the OS last night (she really loves scratch 3) now she wants her own pi400. It seems like only yesterday i was teaching her the difference between bits and bytes and now she is hooked on scratch and will be having her own Linux setup soon. All i need to do now is install standalone emulators, the Morriwind, heroes2, diablo, gemrb/baldurs engines and all the old pc first person shooters, configure Retropie, set ds4 and Xbox 1s Bluetooth pads and test if the mayflash magic s pro works with the pi400/Retropie. Thanks for all your help/recommendations, your website and channel have been a great help. Grrrr phone died and I had to rewrite all this lol.

oh man, sorry you had to type all that twice! Thank you so much for the update and very happy to hear it all worked out fine. That is awesome that your niece now wants a pi400. I've started a project that I'm not sure if you/your niece will be interested in, it's the Pi Crawler (robot), I posted a blurb about it here last night: wagnerstechtalk.com/blog2022 . Not sure when the video will be released, haven't 100% finished the assembly of the robot and there is a lot to experiment with. You're the first to hear it, there will be a giveaway shortly after the setup/review video. The kind folks at SunFounder were happy with the idea of suggesting a giveaway, I'll have a video with details later.

@@WagnersTechTalk Oh wow that sounds so cool, that image you posted looks epic, you are very talented. I will definitely watch that with my niece (I have 3 nieces and 2 nephew's who I'm sure would all want to watch it too). I have so many kits and parts, a couple of Arduinos too, sensors and all sorts of stuff (late night Ali express component binge buying lol) but i never got round to doing much with them. I assembled a racing drone with my nephew and we put a camera on it and got one of those vr style headsets to see through the drone as you race it. But the drone didn't require that much soldering. Apart from that we just did silly little things for fun. We made a simple alarm for his bedroom, we made a tazer from a sort of capacitor from a part in a car and then made a tiny rail gun from a camera that fired 1.77mm steel bbs, we used magnet wire and a pen tube LOL. Oh i nearly forgot, I made my own soldering iron using nichrome wire, some waxed fiberglass wire straws and a thick piece of copper wire and a nice carved handle. But building a robot would be absolutely amazing, that is something I would really love to be able to do one day. But definitely way way out of my league xD I'm so awful at soldering haha. I mean I've soldered stuff and it worked fine, it's just not pretty lol. Also I have a question, after setting up Twister and then running some updates, my sdhc card is full up so I'm gonna try and clone the drive to a 64gb sdxc that should be here today. Will i be able to expand the cloned image or would you just start from scratch on a new card? I should have stuck with your advice and used the SSD for the OS, but I wanted to cut corners and not have to transfer tons of roms lol. Oh well it's a learning experience.

Wow Daniel, you've made a lot of awesome things! I think it's great that you spend that time with your nephews and nieces building those projects. Sometimes, that is all the kids need is someone to build up their confidence and show them they can do it! With the stuff you've done, building this robot would be very easy. The assembly takes some time and needs to be done in a very specific way, but looking forward to putting it through it's paces. When I first started this channel, there was a custom robot that my son and I were building (first attempt ever). We used x3 Arduinos, a Pi 3b+ and some custom circuits and even wrote an HTML5/Javascript phone app. to wirelessly control the robot. Everything was custom, all the communications between the Arduino's and the Pi. It was so much fun, really want to do more of that in the future. But, it's not the kind of stuff that most people are going to care about. Regarding your question, if you don't already have everything setup the way you want it I'd just set up the new drive. Or, you can leave it as-is and just setup a 2nd microSD+SSD pair. Totally whatever you prefer.
@Daniel-Marson2 жыл бұрын
@@WagnersTechTalk The robot You and your Son made sounds so cool, it must have been really awesome controlling it with your own app too. You and your Son must have had so much fun making it together. I look forward to seeing your new Robot. My memory card arrived, I'm about to get started with what i hope is the actual final setup of the pi400 LOL. I will do what you said, I'll use the SSD combo this time. I think I'm going to try out lineageOS on the spare memory card once I finish setting up Twister and Retropie + some standalone emulators. Also i ordered a Seagate 1TB external HDD (I own just Toshiba and western digital externals, so i thought I would try something new) it's for my WiiU, because the WiiU store gets shutdown in 2023 I'm trying to get everything all set up, downloaded and updated before the servers go. Homebrewing a WiiU has been the absolute pits lol, it's usb ports are all 2.0, it can't power an external HDD, so you have to use a y cable that takes 2 ports, it can only have a single HDD connected, you can't use the WiiU screen pad to control the VWii mode games. The CFW was super easy to setup though, but Retroarch did not want to work for me, it turns out there is a file left over from the Tirimasu CFW set up that can cause issues later on. It actually caused issues with absolutely everything it could lol, before that a 32gb micro SD failed just after setting up the CFW. Then when trying to set up a thing called neek on the virtual Wii side the usb stick i used stopped working, so I had to just do a basic emunand setup.But all is good now, Retroarch on the WiiU is actually really really good, i think it's better than the UWP version of Retroarch on the developer mode of an Xbox1s. Lastly I have an OG white PS4 (now i use ps5 + a PS4 pro for remote play) i can't wait for the release of a persistent HEN for PS4, Retroarch on the PS4 will be so much fun, especially when it gets an official release from the libretro guys. At the moment i refuse to even set up HEN and try out any homebrew, because the moment the PS4 turns off it's all reset back to normal. Thanks again Wagner for all your help and advice, i really appreciate it.

This also exists as a standalone keyboard. What do you think of the typing experience? Can this be used for working/gaming like a compact keyboard? Or does it feel worse than a laptop keyboard?
@WagnersTechTalk3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I reviewed the Raspberry Pi 4 Desktop kit which includes the stand-alone keyboard and mouse (vid here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5y7XoGLosupjcU ) so I am aware of it. Both the Pi 400 and Official keyboard and mouse feel identical, IMO. Comparing it to a laptop keyboard is a bit subjective since every laptop mfgr. has a different way of designing the keys for their keyboard. However, IMO this keyboard feels better than any laptop keyboard I've used. It is a bit smaller than my MSI laptop keyboard layout with no dedicated numeric keypad, depending on your needs that might be an issue. If so, you could opt for a full-size keyboard layout. Hope this helps!

Yes, the GPIO layout is the same for both. So, if you have one of those cobbler breakout boards, it will work on either the Pi4 or Pi400. Hope that helps!

Did you try streaming with Netflix, Amazon Video or any others that use DRM? My experience with a regular RPI 4 is that it does not work out of the box. I currently do not have an armv8 version so I'm running the 32 bit Raspian OS. I did find a script that fixes the DRM stuff at blog.vpetkov.net/2019/07/12/netflix-and-spotify-on-a-raspberry-pi-4-with-latest-default-chromium/. This works with armv71 systems. Since they are promoting this as a SBC I think it's important to make sure they cover all the bases. Thanks in advance for your response.

Hi Robert, I filmed a segment of using TwisterOS with Chromium Media which allows for DRM playback (NetFlix, Amazon, etc.). It's an icon on the desktop after installing TwisterOS. This video is a little old, the latest release of TwisterOS has lots more included (Themes for XP, Win 95, Wine, etc.) but here's what I have on my channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWPJZWqQmNioe8k There you'll find NetFlix playing on a Pi4 (but works on the Pi 400 as well). I plan to do a refresher video with the latest release of TwisterOS in the near future. There are just so many great capabilities pre-installed on that image. I hope that helps and Happy Holidays!

Great vid Wagner. I'd like to mention that I'd probably recommend the Samsung SD card over SanDisk, but only b/c I've had many problems w/SanDisk micro SD cards, that I'd buy a Samsung next time. I do own one SanDisk that has served me well but it seems to be the exception as the others (including the latest that immediately gets too hot) have seemingly always resulted in apparent or immediate problems. Take care.
@WagnersTechTalk4 жыл бұрын
Thank you and I totally agree about using Samsung SD cards which I "typically" use in all my Pi's. I have lately tried Gigastone cards (128GB microSD 5 pack for about $75) and none have failed (bought x10 total). There was a point where it was hard to find Samsung cards so I tried another brand. In my CrowPi2 video (here: wagnerstechtalk.com/crowpi2 ) I used a 512GB Samsung SD card and works great. For the Pi 400, when I flashed RetroPie I was using the Gigastone card for that. Thank you for your comments and I 100% agree that Samsung cards are the best choice!

Thank you sir for the concise informative review. I do have two questions if you don't mind. First, I see on canakit.com that one can buy up to a 128 GB MicroSD card but I have read that it the Raspberry Pi will only use up to a 32 Gig MicroSD card. Can you please clear this up for me? Secondly, what was the process you undertook to set up the USB web camera for Zoom? And speaking of Zoom, were you using the web browser version of Zoom or were you somehow able to make a Zoom client work in Raspberry OS? Thanking you in advance for your assistance.
@WagnersTechTalk3 жыл бұрын
Hi Chester, I've used up to a 512GB micorSD with the Raspberry Pi (1TB prices are a bit too steep for me, currently). That information is either very old or incorrected regarding the size limitations of the microSD. For setting up the USB camera, just plugged it into a USB port, went to zoom.com and started a zoom meeting. There wasn't a native client app. for zoom on the Pi but the browser worked fine in this test. Hope this clarifies, thank you for watching!

Yep, again very poorly edited but it was controlled via WiFi to a Pi 3b+ from my cellphone: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYW0oGeehK6Setk All-custom software, x3 Arduinos were harmed in the making of this video :) Not really, but ... they were used to control the speech module, motor controller and temperature module. Each acted independently and would report to the Pi if there was something in-range (or wrong). The Pi controlled the arduinos and used WebSockets and a local webserver to allow the user to remote-connect/control using on-screen elements. One of these days I want to revive the project, I've learned a bit more since then. Sorry, probably more than you wanted to know lol
