Rattlesnake Fishing Lure Build - The Wakey-Snakey

I handmade a western diamondback rattlesnake wake bait topwater lure for largemouth bass and it turned out awesome! Follow along as I take you step-by-step through the creation of this one of a kind piece.
In all reality this build is pretty easy and does not require a whole lot of tools to pull off...oh, and living in rattlesnake country can sure help. We don't even have rattlers in our part of the country, but that didn't stop the bass from chasing it down.

It’s so much better than I even expected and it’s now with my friend catching some dandy bass in eastern Washington! Figured it would work best where there is actually rattlesnakes.

I made a top-water wake snake, but yours has a much better, more fluid action than mine. I also broke the lip on mine the first time out. This is when I discovered that, what I thought was Polycarbonate was actually Acrylic. Acrylic (or Plexiglas) is brittle and cracks & breaks fairly easily. Polycarbonate (or Lexan) is a much more durable and almost unbreakable product. You can actually cold-bend Polycarbonate without breaking it. Double-check the material you're making the lips/bibs/bills from. Great lure!

The lips can totally get brittle from the super glue curing, as that creates heat that acrylic doesn’t like. It actually makes little micro cracks if you put too much on. The lip on this one actually broke because it got hung in a pad and I pulled hard and it skipped into the side of my canoe. Comically, the lip sheered off and casually plopped in front of me in the water as I sat there cursing 🤣 easy fix though and I am excited to get it out there again!

I always enjoy watching your builds, thanks for putting together quality videos! I can't believe how nice that thing swims! I was wondering if you could share where you get your eyelets from, and if you have any tips on selecting eyelets for lure making? Thank you!

Thanks for watching! I was pretty stoked on the swim action of this thing and I guess you can’t go wrong adding so many joints. If it can articulate like that you’re in good shape 😄 As far as the eyelets go, I just do the ol’ Amazon thing most the time, but these came from Jann's Netcraft fishing and tackle supply. I will put a link in the video description shortly to the exact eyelets. I pin the eyelet in place with a finish nail that is trimmed off-if a fish is strong enough to bend that out then that’s a good problem to have. Thanks again for the kind words!
