Christmas time in Germany, no matter where you are is always magical. So much to see and do...and eat! This is my first Christmas in Germany and the wife and I absolutely LOVE each and every experience we've had. We've been to three small Christmas Markets already and each one is as charming as the last. We can't wait to see more and do more during our time here in Germany. How long in advance does one have to purchase the bus ticket with entry to this Christmas market? Also did you use a website for the purchasing of the ticket ? I’m planing a trip for the first time this year to see a couple of Christmas markets and this one is one on my bucket list.

I just came back from the first weekend of the Ravenna gorge christmas market, here are my suggestions for future travellers: 1. Time: go early if you have the stamina Most time slots after dark are sold out first, because the market is most beautiful when lighted up. However, if you go there while there is still daylight, you can actually do some hiking up in the forest right behind the market, with beautiful waterfalls and bridges within 5 minutes' walk! People also avoid going too early because of the 2.5 hours "limit" on the ticket, but nobody actually enforces the exact time to leave, and the return buses are just on first-come-first-serve basis, not based on the end time of the ticket. Also, some shops like the glass shop outside the market also close early around 6pm, so going early gives you more time because you can choose to stay longer, and to shop in peace while there are less people around. 2. Where to stay Many youtubers start in Freiburg, but you may also choose to stay 5km away in a resort lakeside town, "Titisee". I chose Titisee because I travelled from the east, so going to Freiburg takes longer time, not to mention the extra 1 hour from Freiburg to Ravennaschlucht. Titisee is also more peaceful (if you are not a city person), and has more nature to offer (hiking, or skiing nearby), plus there is also a water park / spa for adults or kids to spend a full day. Lastly, shuttle buses from Titisee or nearby towns are more frequent compared to Freiburg, which gives you more time flexibilty. 3. Slippery with snow/ice The slope up the iconic viewing point is extremely slippery when it snows or when ice forms, so much so that half of the people slipped even when going uphill. It is also very dangerous or possibly fatal when going downhill because of the slope + hidden ice, especially when most people go there in the dark
