RIP Dad. It's such an awesome memory. My dad took me to see this Raw here in Rockford. We were in the cheap seats. The very last row, in fact. I was 7 years old I'll never forget. The Undertaker kept coming out throughout the night. We didn't have a clue who that guy was. We thought it was some new biker character with no build-up. We didn't learn it was the Undertaker until his theme music hit at the end of the night.... Thank you Dad.

Let's see, Sting just becoming just another guy in the nwo, losing all the appeal of his crow character and not being used to his full potential. On the other channel, Vince had no problems pushing a red hot Austin, and throwing in intrigue with Kane, Taker, Foley and occasionally, some up and comers like DX, and some guy named Dwayne. Easy to see how the WWF won the war by this point....

Another great video. It's crazy how deep into 98 we are at this point and we still have the Biker Miker Likers around, like it's insane. Also crazy how, meh, the DX stuff was until the feud proper with the Nation kicked off. These segments have ranged from aight to Boeing. I also think this series has done a good job highlighting how even though the perception of who was doing better has been muddied through time, we can actually see the proof here. For example, even though post BATB 96 and 97 are considered high points where Nitro was killing Raw, we saw a lot of those weeks where the WWF actually had a better show and product and here, 98 is considered the beginning of the mega rise of the WWF, but we've seen in these weeks post Mania that Nitro has been more entertaining and especially the ppvs have been better. Can't wait until we get to the batshit year of 99, cause everybody was wild then!

Well 1998 was a good year for WCW too. The WWF was still in the post Mania classic slow period, even if the Austin Vince stuff are great. From KOTR things will be more clear. WCW was in a good period now, very underrated, but now it's summer, and this means one thing celebrities tag matches

Damn, you can really tell by watching this episode that they're trying to make the NWO black and white cooler because everyone loves the Wolfpac. Seriously, there's like 3 hogan promos on this show and for most of them he's hanging out with some ladies and Rodman. Also they got Ms. Elizabeth now and they got Scott Hall a while back because Hogan realised that he got stuck with the least popular members when the split happened and wanted at least one guy that the crowd loved.

Does anyone remember picture in picture? I guess nobody needs it these days but I'd normally be watching nitro with WWF/E on the small picture in picture so I knew what was happening on both shows at the same time. I could just hit the swap button to change which one was playing
@mattk3654
@mattk3654 Жыл бұрын
I was definitely switching back and forth because I didn't have "picture in picture." But I wish I did. The switching back and forth is what most people that I knew were doing and that's why I don't understand why the ratings weren't closer thru most of the Monday night wars.
@michaelmclaren1333
@michaelmclaren1333 Жыл бұрын
@@mattk3654 the neilson "ratings" were not absolutely accurate because IF the "counter" or whatever it's called knew that MOST small bars and most sports bars would have Monday nitro parties. And then after viewership swapped they'd have Monday night raw watch parties. So a LOT of more people were watching then the cable companies knew. The same is true for a lot of PPVs I hosted 20 WrestleMania parties so that'd be one "buy" for 50 people.

I gotta say, I love Bret Hart's look at that time. Those sunglasses and a plain shirt plus jeans. It may look simple, but Bret pulled it off so well. I also kinda like this stage of his Hogan storyline. The way I see it, they went for Bret becoming Hogan's ally, so he could be close to him and strike at the right time. So far, it looks good. But I'm afraid we'll eventually get to the stage, where that story fizzled out. For shame :(

So Sting spends a year and a half as a lone wolf vigilante fighting the NWO and to win the WCW from which he does only to join the wolfpack which is lead by Nash who screwed him out of the title against macho man. Now Sting has a tomato face and is fighting in the tag team division not getting a rematch for the world belt. What does Sting get out of being in a faction, he works far better solo. WCW really really botched Sting in 98 after all the work they did with him in 97.

I always felt that this period (marked by tomato face Sting) was a bit of a lull in the excitement, as if both sides where taking a breather before letting loose with both barrels again. Constant walk-downs as show disruption started to become a thing for WWF for a little while and they did them (usually) a lot better than with how 'Taker was doing them here (he even does them himself, and better at later dates). Just a bit of a flat time in an otherwise exciting period, and really you can't lay any blame on them to be fair, the way things go in the near future, you'd think they'd found the perfect formula for pro wrestling and how could they -ever- screw it up in the future?! Right..?! XD

31:10 Oh! So this was the Raw where that happened. I remember watching as a kid. Hilarious! (Hilariously dumb of the other tag teams, but hilarious all the same.) I don’t care much for when the WWE tries to replicate this spot every few years (with commentary referencing the New Age Outlaws each time someone new tries it). I recall The New Day (… or at least I think it was The New Day) attempting this maybe in 2018. It’s probably happened again since then (maybe even multiple times since then). Do new things, WWE. But this one specific time I thought it was great.

What would happen if WCW's Goldberg count & Reliving The War's Goldberg count matched up in the end? They fudged the numbers early but it seems like the gap is narrowing back down. There was a consistent 5 match gap that is now 4 matches apart. Did WCW tell the truth in the end after all?

Jeez, how I h4te Hogan, and feel a little dissapointed for Sting. Turning himself to NWO is like betraying his own ideals, defend WCW. Also he was stripped away from the title picture. Thanks Wrestling Bios for your big work.

I remember watching that tag team match with the New Age outlaws live and I looked at my dad at the start of that match and I said you know what’s gonna happen here right the outlaws are both gonna get tagged in one’s gonna pin the other and they’re going to keep the titles thats only way they can get out of this with the titles, and when it happens, he looked at me and he goes son of a bitch. You definitely called that one it was just so obvious to 15-year-old me lol
