You should look into tying your shoe so that the bow is horizontal instead of vertical. It looks cleaner and has a stronger hold.

Yes! Just change the way you tie the first half. So if you're starting out going left over right, then switch to right over left.

Ian’s shoelace site. Quite informative. Yes, the granny knot is a very common mistake. Distracting to the discerning eye.

You should do a video listing your boots from the most dressy looking to most bulbous workboot like. show which boots are like the thursday where it can be used for both work (no extreme labor like fire fighting) and dress/casual

Dale, for the last 6 years I've used the berlutti knot to keep my laces tied. They never come undone and the laces sit nicely across the shoe/boot evenly.

Love the berlutti for my dress shoes... my loggers with Tandy Latigo laces dont come untied and my pants hide the knot so i don't go through the extra steps. But the berlutti is my favorite footwear knot.. I use it on my kids to keep their shoes tied too

New subscriber (I followed after your grant stone loafer video) and pretty new to GYW shoes and boots, with just a few pairs. I also prefer the wrap around way of tying the laces- does it damage/rub suede at all? I do it on my full grain leather boots, but on my suede boots I'm worried I will ruin the nap on the suede, but I believe you tie a pair of suede boots in this way in this video!
@DalesLeatherworks
@DalesLeatherworks 2 жыл бұрын
Man thank you!! I do love the wrap around method for rawhide laces and no it doesn’t damage the suede at all. It leaves a bit of an imprint but nothing deleterious to the leather!

You use clippers to cut your laces?!? I’ve just been biting the ends off with my teeth. Silly me; what was I thinking?!?! Lol- jk....Bro! This video was great! I’ve literally never thought of any of this stuff! This really helped me. Like, usually I just snip about an inch off my laces every few weeks until they’re done stretching; I never considered pre stretching. And WOW, 6-7 inches of stretch is unbelievable. Anyways, great job man, and thanks for the little cameo- hehe
@DalesLeatherworks
@DalesLeatherworks 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you noticed your cameo brother!!! Surprisingly I didn’t have any pics in my camera feed of my Vibergs with rawhide laces and your recent shots immediately popped into my head!! LMAO glad you use your teeth, I hear that’s actually good for your enamel 😂😂😂 so glad you enjoyed the video my friend. I think about these laces a lot and how they compare to cotton laces. You don’t necessarily have to stretch them early but I’ve found it prevents a certain amount of re-tying throughout the day while they’re new as they stretch a lot during those first few wears. Cheers brother!!!

Do you still recommend treating the laces? As in a previous video. On your recommendation picked up a few guarded goods laces. I’ll definitely do the stretching routine!
@DalesLeatherworks
@DalesLeatherworks 3 жыл бұрын
Yessir I think the leather laces can get dry and brittle just like your boots can, and they could use some conditioning after probably a year or 2, as to my knowledge they don’t appear to be treated nearly as much as the upper leather generally is! I wouldn’t condition the laces immediately but eventually for sure!!!
