@robertorick6383 (Joshie) Jo Armstead had been a member of The Ikettes. She & Ashford & Simpson wrote hits for The Shirelles, The Guess Who, soul singer Chuck Jackson, and of course Ray. They joined Motown after Ray Charles had a hit with Let's Go Get Stoned, which was also written by Ashford, Simpson & Armstead. 😊

@@91Kingscrib84 Originally recorded by Nick Ashford himself on Verve Records in early 1966, but it didn't chart. Ray eventually charted with this cover.

Featuring "I Don't Need No Doctor" on the Sock Hop Saturday Night radio anniversary show - April 2, 2022 (28 years). It was once said that Louis Armstrong played notes that could not be scored on sheet music. The music came from his soul. The same can be said for Ray Charles. He sang notes, shouts, moans, and screams not found in the lyrics, and not found on the sheet music. He had an amazing 58-year career in R&B, Soul, Blues, Gospel, Country, Jazz, and Rock & Roll. He overcame personal struggles to achieve numerous awards, philanthropic works, halls of fame, films, and television; 60 albums and over 200 compilations. This song is a great example of Mr. Charles exposing his soul, and the Raelettes add that perfect touch to the background. The Genius!
