Razaketh the Foulblooded Commander Deck Tech

The thing I enjoy most about Jumbo Commander's videos would be how much time he puts into describing individual card value and what scenarios they could be used in. The sheer length of these videos is significantly longer than the other Commander deck videos I regularly watch, and the time given towards the explanations gives me a more full perspective on what's possible with these legendary creatures.

Thank you. This really makes me feel validated because when I started all of the advice was to make my videos shorter (granted some were 45 minutes and not very good). I think there needs to be a certain amount of information so that anyone can understand the deck and start using their own cards and creating their own refined strategy. Cheers

I have a Liliana, Heretical Healer deck, and Razaketh went in first. He quickly becomes a target whenever he hits the field. It's by far my best deck and he's one of the three bombs in that deck that instalock me as the target. The others being sheoldred and Lili.

great video! i run Razaketh in a Kaalia commander deck and hes insanely useful! i want to make him the general of a mono-black deck to help teach my friends how to play commander ( i plan on building a mono-commander deck of each colors to kind of show off what each color is capable of) and i liked all of your ideas with this guy!

For the moment I have just taken a copy of the mono black commander precon, and took out a few cards I felt weren't necessary and added in a few of the newer cards I've yet to use and wanted to try them out. Then put Razeketh as the commander. I enjoyed it splendidly, also thanks to jumbo I have a decent inkling of how I wish to actually build him when I find a few other cards.

Jumbo Commander awesome in terms of fun. I forget the name but the best play I got to do dealt with tutor for Shriveling Rot in response to a blasphemous act. The guy with a lot of really big green things wasn't too terribly happy but liked the play nonetheless. In total I think I spent right around 55$ for as it sits now. But I'm slowly gonna gather what it really wanna try and that's demon tribal. Just for the lolz. And blood speaker can definitely help.

I just opened a mana crypt Wasn't sure what to use it for. All I want to play is commander and I love your videos, my brain and wallet go wild... Maybe I'll keep the mana crypt for future use somewhere!... Just completed my Hapatra deck and Brion deck. Want a 3 coloured Land Killin deck, green, red, black... Whoot Mana Crypt! Congrats. Now comes a serious question. You can have a single awesome card for a deck or sell it and get like 10 solid cards ... the finances of this game can be brutal. It sounds like you have a lot of things you want to build. One advantage is that the Crypt can go in any deck and be anywhere from Pretty Good to AMAZING.

I run Razaketh in ny Queen Marchesa deck. The theme of the deck is to get the table to actually try getting the monarch from each other through various "incentives" and politics. This usually garners me quite a bit of assassin tokens to use for a one turn Razaketh sac-fest of assassins for something like Insurrection, Oketra's Last Mercy, etc. But yeah, he's pretty insane.

I have Leyline of the Void and Helm of Obedience in it to pick off one player at a time. generally the one playing the unfair deck. You can also abuse Grave Pact effects since you are sacking your creatures, make them sack as well.

Relatively speaking, that's true, but there are plenty of powerful old cards that are barely worth anything. Granted, I do have my collection of expensive cards that I often put in my decks, and I'll sometimes pick up other expensive cards just on a whim with no real plan for them, but commander is strictly casual (I don't acknowledge "competitive" because it's 1v1 and also not on the GP or PT as far as I know, at least not as a main event) so I don't really see the point in spending a ton of money. Just an opinion, that's all.

Hey there, love your videos, and honestly after seeing the gameplay at Commander VS (Starcity) and Commander Clash, Razaketh is looking like an all-star. Then again, those games were in a vacuum so to speak (only dealing with the other mono-color Commanders from HOU). Just one minor correction: Rings of Brighthearth and Grim Monolith don't go infinite. Tap for 3. Pay 4 to untap, 2 more to copy (6 total paid). It untaps twice and produces another six mana. Six in, six out. Works with the Basalt Monoilith just fine though. Still a sweet video nevertheless.

I think they both might be too slow ... Razaketh is so expensive the game could end before he hits the battlefield. If you want to make this deck more competitive cut SO MANY CARDS and then add in a lot more disruption and interaction.

Oketras monument is a very cool drain strategy I just wish it triggered on ETB instead of CAST because none of my tons of little tokens will trigger it :( I think I see where you are going with Fiend but it isn't perfect. If you play it before your commander you can try and take a spell that could threaten your general BUT then it's hard to sacrifice the fiend. If you play it after your general then you can sacrifice the Fiend with the trigger on the stack and take something forever but that might be too late to really protect your general. In that case would a different effect be better? Interesting. I would say test it. It's a good idea but you have to SEE if it's useful. I'm glad you like the content. Cheers!

as far as protection for this deck goes far and away the best is supernatural stamina, you can also use it to sac a creature and get it right back and its just 1 mana. thats where i wanna be

I would like to address a mistake I hear a lot of people make, you included. Panharmonicon does not work on etb, it works on triggered abilities based around etb like cathar's crusade and doubling season.

It does both, I'm pretty sure. Because the creature with the etb effect causes the etb effect to trigger, meaning it is doubled. ETB is a triggered ability.

Hey Jumbo...If I may add some good combos for Razaketh and some good win condition cards, Bog Initiate + Pawn of Ulamog + Reassembling Skeleton + Ashnod's Altar = infinite sacs and infinite black mana, and for a win condition card I'd say add in Bitter Ordeal Bog Initiate lets you convert 1 mana into 1 black mana Pawn of Ulamog nets you a 0/1 Eldrazi spawn token each time a nontoken creature you control dies Reassembling Skeleton revives itself for 1B and Ashnod's Altar lets you sac a creature for 2 colorless mana As for Bitter Ordeal (GraveStorm) For each storm count you search your opponent's decks for a card and exile it

here's a better storm card for this particular deck....Bitter Ordeal....you see this card's version of Storm is quite unique, instead of getting a storm count based on how many spells that were cast this turn, its based on how many permanents were sent to the grave this turn and with Razaketh, you can get "Gravestorm" off much faster than any other storm, also Bitter Ordeal's Base effect is to take a card from an opponent's deck and exile it then shuffle...such an effect is devastating in EDH...all for 3 mana

The deck isnt gonna be infallible in the slightest, its just gonna get boring. Turn 10, earlier with rocks, sac 2 creatures you played earlier in the game, get Sanguine Bond and Exquisite Blood. Cast both. Swing with your commander who tramples. I have a feeling its gonna end up like Sliver Overlord. "But you can do so much you have so many opt-" youre gonna tutor for the sliver that makes your 7/7 commander unblockable and swing away, just do it!

I have strong opinions about the rules committee. This feels a less powerful card than Protean Hulk and Tooth and Nail BUT it sits in your command zone so that can change things.

It's too bad ol' Raspberry is toootally getting banned. It's arguably a better commander than Gristlebrand, wich was origionally banned _only in the commander slot_ because he was just too strong. Later when they combined the 99 banlist and the General banlist, Gristlebrand was banned entirely. There's no way Razakath gets to stay.

I think I need to play against him. I'm interested to see if competitive edh players pick him up. The french commander format (competitive 1v1) does not have Griselbrand banned and it is not fast enough to keep up but traditional commander is different we will have to see if he is a huge negative influence.

americanErrorist to be fair sidisi undead viser is a card that does same thing but cheaper not repeatable tho. it wont get banned its not as good as griselbrand. most cedh decks wont even play this its only good in reanimator meren prolly wont play it cuz to expensive so i highly doubt it will get banned

I have my own Razaketh deck, And frankly I won't be shocked when he gets banned. It's not just the fact that he can tutor for combos, frankly it's when he just tutors without combos that annoy the table with every answer imagineable that he becomes so banworthy. nobody is going to be wanting him around for long. But if he doesn't get banned, I'll just enjoy the fact that I spent 1/3 the amount of money I spend on my usual decks for the best deck I have. And to answer the question is he better than Griselbrand. With Razaketh, 2 creatures + 4 life = guaranteed win. And with Griselbrand, pay 7 life, nope didn't hit a combo, pay 7 life nope didn't hit a combo. Wash, rinse, repeat. Here's my list for those interested. There are 6 instant win combos. I did not consider buying this commander. I hate paying life and now sacrificing a creature too? My opponents are not amateurs in Magic. Our game table is full of enchantments. Each opponent probably have at least 10 enchantments and instant cards. Every time you play a significant creature spell? Enchant, can't activate abilities. Destroy, cannot regenerate. It may take 8 mana to play Razaketh. They will hold onto the card as collateral damage. While they still hit you. 40 life can easily be down to 10 in turn 8. I never win games with life above 30. Nor anyone else in the game. One time my opponent won by just 1 freaking life. He draw and played the card stating "target opponent skip his turn" and attack all his creatures and other damage spells just enough to drain 30 life. We hardly play equipments/enchantments with shroud or hexproof coz they don't last.

kapiatgatas I'm finding it hard to see your point. So skip him being a commander for a second and lets focus on his ability. You're saying that paying life and sacrificing a creature are disadvantages to having instant speed almost uncounterable search? Let me use your game as an example. Say you were playing a white black deck and currently on your field is razaketh and an academy rector. We'll even take it one step further and say that your opponent on top of skipping your turn taps down all of your creatures making it impossible to block. You allow him to make it to his attack step and let him swing in, in the blockers step you declare no blocks but instead pay 2 of your 30 life to sacrifice academy rector (which by the way is part of the cost and cannot be responded to). You now have 2 triggers on the stack one is academy rector's search for an enchantment and put it on the field and the other is razaketh's search. You use rector to find the white enchantment that says if you have only one life you win the game (can't remember it's name) and with razaketh you search for angel's grace which for one measly white mana prevents you from losing and your opponents from winning and anything that would bring your life below one brings it to one instead. I have just now taken the two disadvantages of razaketh and made them game winning advantages. All about thinking outside the box :)

Tutor all you want, either it will end up to the graveyard, exiled or enchanted. It takes 8 turns without mana ramp artifacts just basic lands. I can be attack 7x by each opponent with 1/1 deathtouch or first strke. 40-21= 19 life remaining before I cast RAZAKETH. That if the 8th upkeep I draw a land.

I've been playing this guy on MTGO and once he sticks for even a measly first main phase it's a game win. He is just absurd. I do believe you. Angels, Dragons and a lot of other Commanders out there are so crazy powerful. That if you left them uncheck. If your deck plays around your commander, you have to get it out, protected and fast. The table I play is fast "Blitzkrieg". Attack when able. I've got 22 Angels and angel token creatures with indestructibility from Avacyn. Lost to a FFFFF 0.15 cents card 1/1 unicorn (Noble Quarry). Others chose their commanders only for their colors. Not for their abilities and effects. Razaketh on paper is powerful. If I got the mana and got it out before turn 8 that would be amazing. In my play group at round 6 I can loose half of my life or 5 poison counters.
