The Magic Bird narrative is bullcrap. NBA fans didn't ENJOY the death of parity. The reason the NBA wasn't popular in the 70s is because your average adult remembered fucking WW2 and didn't grow up with basketball. Its not that they didn't enjoy parity and loved Lakers v Celtics. Parity is key to the NFLs dominance and gen x would have greatly preferred the 70s to the 80s if they were around at the the time.

Still, if Caitlin Clarke had faced Virginia Tech in the 2023 NCAA Championship, win or lose, she would not have the former disinterested fans following her into the 2024 NCAA season and beyond. Included in that, was Clark and Iowa's take down of the undefeated Dawn Staley and South Carolina. Clark became a star during that game. But Angel Reese becoming her very vocal and polarizing nemesis, is what made her a household name. WNBA had the Fever play 11 games in 20 days. Twice as many as the Aces (champs) just to promote Caitlyn Clark. Absolutely, poor decision by the league.

The NBA didn't merge with the Black ABA because they wanted to. There was no intention of making the game more available to the poor much less entertain them. The NBA had only sold out the garden a couple times before signing Patrick Ewing and it wasn't for Knicks basketball games. These veteran WNBA players don't REMOTLEY understand how much in dues they have to pay to grow 'equality' into actual fucking 'profit-ability'.

Diana Taurasi said it BEST!!!!!! 😂❤ Real Womens game here!!!!!!! She's not the only one getting beat up!!!! So is Angel Reese!!!! Take race out of it also take these new fans out of it....all of that played and been fans of the WBB ignore the stir crazy fans for C.C. they did the same thing for Larry Bird....folks are amazed when other ethnicities have skills like ours or better and it brings the revenue....it'll end up being good for everyone.....in the end....I think the frustration is that WBB has always been good and it has great players since the 80's always brung home the GOLD in Olympics have high ratings in the WNCAA..... it's just like the NBA ....it wasn't popular til Larry Bird came and his arch nemesis 'Magic'.....the same will happen with the WNBA now Caitlin bringing Bird energy and Reese is the rival like "Magic" .....the vets we knew WBB was litty now everyone catching on because of C.C. and Reese.....now everyone will start getting the recognition they deserved (passed players) and deserve (current players.) Its all good .....just glad people seeing what we as women players and fans already knew !!!!!!! The WBB Is 'ACTIVE' let's goooo!!!!! ❤ 🏀💯

Ms Clark is box office..... Please don't put Angel in her category. It's a reason why Angel was the 7th pick and Clark was the 1st pick.
@PassThatFersacy3 ай бұрын
That’s not completely true. Magic and Bird elevated the league by their PLAY not just their rivalry. Caitlin can really hoop while Angel is known more for her looks, social media image, etc. You look up Caitlin Clark, what you see? Highlights. You look up Angel Reese, what you see?…. Not highlights.
@tajpatterson38913 ай бұрын
Ummm I disagree slightly. Two things it’s not the rookie class it’s Clarke. You have to understand the economics the league was already growing before this Class, Clarke just gave them a massive bump. The Reese thing yes she’s popular, but she’s only popular for taunting and beating Clarke in college. Lastly she’s not good enough in my opinion to be the bird to Clarke’s Magic. Reese was drafted 7th. Including a pick less than her own teammate. And they’re not winning enough to be Bird and Magic. Bird won 60 games his rookie year, Magic won the chip his rookie year. It’ll take time for those two grow and I’m sure they’ll be great but the question is do they have that time? Will the magic be gone by the time the Fever are ready to contend? Secondly I don’t care about the hard fouls or the flagrant foul. To me that’s apart of the game. She was eventually gonna get hit with one. However, it’s the comments that reek of jealousy. Clarke isn’t saying anything publicly to anyone it’s these players attacking her. Again I don’t care what Cooper, Griner or Taurasi said. That’s just them rightfully reminding her who they are and we love competition. But the “she’s just a shooter” or “I’m flying private not because one person” or “you’re watching because of me too” or finally “if I were given 20 threes a game I could shoot like that too” all seem to be shots at her.

Ryan is full of it Caitlin Clark is responsible for 33% of the attendance for the WNBA Her jersey sales would rank 4th among NBA players She's been a part of 4 out of the 5 most watched WNBA games this year The most watched WNBA game in history Merchandise up 750% Viewership up 156% but they're not jealous of CC If disingenuous was a person

In a moment of frustration, Clark even called out the officiating in her games, and some are saying she is being unfairly targeted by other players. Auriemma, on the other hand, says those people are sorely misguided. "If you're a great college player like Caitlin was, (the delusional fan base that follows her disrespected the WNBA players by saying that she's gonna go in that league and tear it apart. ... These people are so disrespectful and so unknowledgeable and so stupid that it gives women's basketball a bad name," ) Auriemma said while on "The Dan Patrick Show" this week. "So the kid was set up for failure right from the beginning. Auriemma also added that Clark is taking everything in stride. Right now, it's just a matter of giving Clark time to develop more of her physical tools.

Y'all are delusional. CC is the only reason the viewership is up. It's been really good players in this league for years, but they didn't move the meter. CC does. It's so crazy how nobody calls a spade a spade. And leaving CC off the Olympic team is criminal. The WNBA is fumbling the bag on this one. CC is the biggest wave all the surfers were waiting for but instead of grabbing a board y'all getting out the water. Silly

NIL and Social Media is creating household names before these girls get into the WNBA now. Next year’s class will also be known names. When Paige and JuJu come into the league they will be stars from day one just like Angel and Clark. It’s good for the WNBA and the vets need to see the larger picture and stop the jealousy.
@mrpj13903 ай бұрын
All the other players have a small part in it but the overwhelming bulk of the new success is due to Caitlin. Men lie. Women lie. But numbers don't lie. Look at the Chicago Sky's attendance numbers vs the Indiana Fever's attendance numbers and you'll see who the overwhelming bulk of viewers are coming to see.

Damn, I just had this same argument with my son and daughters. White people didn't watch the NBA before Magic and Bird because they felt the NBA stood for the Negro Basketball League. Once Bird and Magic joined the league everyone started to watch Angel and Catlin ate 2 straight women playing in a league that's predominantly lesbian which is why there is more attention on the WNBA than before.
@krjr1968363 ай бұрын
I like Angel, she's a very good player. But people aren't watching because of her. She's a part of it but that's it. The WNBA draft s numbers and the games attendance is not because of Angel. It's Because of Caitlin Clarke. If Clarke had not come out all those numbers would be terrible even with Angel in the draft and playing games. They would be no where near what they are with Clarke involved.

Ryan is football player stick with that you know nothing about basketball. Larry and Magic had enforcer on their team you would get your block knock off with the stuff happening to Clark. The WNBA player are targeting her. There were several WNBA player saying she was going to get a rude awaking when she got to the league. There are players hitting Clark when she doesn't even have the ball.

Except your missing that WNBA had zero fans before Clark. Clarks NCAA run was must watch TV. Shes also white and shooting from the logo. For WNBA , she is first natural superstar they have had come in in a while. Shes attracting a whole new demographic to the league - white girls.

Problem is numbers don’t lie….Caitlin is getting double the numbers the Angel is getting for home and even away games in audiences for Angel it’s 8,000 something while Caitlin it’s 17,000 something. For ratings for Caitlin it’s 2.1-1.2 million viewers in ratings for her games even her games on platforms behind paywalls that no one’s really has or knows about it’s the highest ratings for the WNBA ever or even that platform ever seen in the 700,000 for the NBA and Ion platforms while Angel is getting 100,000 in ratings so we are still talking apples to oranges. Even when Angel talks about how back in college no one was talking about her until that national championship game that is true for her but Caitlin was already getting 4-5 million viewers from that year already watching every one of her games and her games both at home and away were sell out games so to say it all started with that game is a lie…it just took it to a new level for her and made her a national influencer because her popularity isn’t based on her being a basketball player but her popularity on social media. Most of her fans are fans for her on social media’s that follow her to see what she is doing, wearing, wanting to watch her tic toc videos and will show up to post when their is something in the media like this. They aren’t really watching the games, going to the games, they buying the merchandise and supporting her as a person but not the sport as a whole. They are the casual fan that comes on to do the social media warfare. Having picked a side based mainly on race and for many will stick with her based on that fact and stand for her on that fact even going so far as hating on Caitlin because of it. Wishing for the failure of Caitlin. Whereas the majority of Caitlin’s fans are there for her basketball skills and are actually watching the games, going to the games, buying the merchandise and especially little girls. Making her fan base very much families. Which is why for them seeing the more aggressive play in the WNBA has been so negative for them because they don’t see that in the college game or even the NBA. For the majority of Caitlin’s fans they are watching just for Caitlin but are also watching now for other players as well and support them which they did as well while watching Caitlin in college. Some even support Angel. Don’t really see to much of that on Angels fanbase side, it’s strictly I’m here for Angel and Angel only.
