I had it all mixed up, you painted it from the inside out. This helped a lot.

cut and fit the body BEFORE painting! Looks nice!

When applying the window masks, roughly cut them out first, then peel back a small section of the backing and cut it off. Allows you to position the mask easily then you can push the sticky part down which holds it all in place while you peel off the rest of the backing. Makes it a million times easier and more accurate :)

Good tip! Thanks for sharing. With 30+ years of painting bodies under my belt and a bunch of them being magazine covers and box art, I found the eyeing it up method works best for me. Not all precut masks line up properly or they need to be maneuvered while adhering and having the backing on makes it difficult to make adjustments.

When applying decals, use soapy water so you can reposition them if you put them on wrong....then squeegy water n let dry....Chris Chianelli's trick I learned years ago, been using his trick for years... Rip Chris

Greg Many thanks for doing said video. I just finished painting a TRX4 Sport Kit body with a black to white fade using Traxxas paints. I didn't get the exact look I was going for and your video explained why, thank you. The look I did get was a black to white fade/stone marble look. Doesn't look bad actually. Keep the videos coming I do enjoy the content and learing new things. Thank you!!!

Wow man I love your tutorials. I’ve been painting hard plastics and leans for a year now and have been doing my best to learn any pearls of wisdom and you cover so much in this video. And such a clear message too. You know every time I start to spray the first coat I have to fight myself to not spray to much and run the paint. It is a battle of the titans in my skull…. Is that green bottle to the right in that rack on the wall a spray masking compound? That orange and yellow fade was cool. That turned out super clean.

Put small pot on stove and boil water (can of soup sized pot), pull boiling water off stove and immediately drop your spray can into hot water. Set 5 min timer then remove can from water using a towel to avoid burns…..shake and spray for perfect mist no splotches.

I just bought a Proline Chevy Trailboss for my Senton 3s BLX that I wanted to paint, and your video has put my nerves at rest. It seemed so easy. I have heard that if you rub a fine sandpaper before paint, it'll give the paint more spots to grip to. What are your thoughts on this?
@bryceridesbikes3 жыл бұрын
You'll end up with colors that aren't exactly what you may have intended, but I think going lighter to darker on a similar fade to what was shown here helps blend and smooth out the change from one to the next
@rcdriver3 жыл бұрын
Yup, there are certainly different techniques and preferences. I’ve done both types of fades with cans. For some reason any white overspray into the yellow and orange bothers me more than the reverse.

Window trim: did you just cut out the original window masks? Or did you mask off the trim area prior. I missed that.

Make sure to paint toward your white doors, so the overspray definitely get all over them.
@rcdriver3 жыл бұрын
I used the white doors as a backdrop so viewers could see what was going on and was of course far enough away so overspray wouldn’t get on them. But you knew that…

I am about to start my first paint job on a very nice clear GT body for my new LIMITLESS roller. It’s been a long time since I painted any RC body and never a clear body. I am very concerned about the body posts. How come you didn’t do the holes for the posts first? Now that the body is painted, how do you plan to take care of it?
@Tailgatesntoolboxes3 жыл бұрын
U should mark them b4 u paint the body with a Sharpe on the outside but u can use the flashlight trick...hold the flashlight underneath n some times u can see threw it n mark your body posts or stick pieces of folded up tape on the ends on the body mounts n try to put the body on straight mark it with a Sharpie. This trick may take a few times to get it right

Use blue painters tape instead of tan masking tape some of them can leave residue behind not like blue painters tape
@willardwilliams22482 жыл бұрын
You know you washed that and than touched it with your bare hands which put your oils from your hand all over it again and you didn’t wash it after you put your masking tape on which means there is oil on it again which defeated the purpose of washing it before you did anything

its like 100% easier if you mount the body on the car before painting it so you can actually see where the body post holes need to go, again your showing us how to do easy stuff but not explaining how you are supposed to blind drill the body post holes
