As a scale model boat builder for over 20 years and having great knowledge of all the R/C model parts, I love how you integrate the R/C servos and pushrod system into your track layout. I have been watching this layout progress over time and love what you have done.. I used to run model trains when I was much younger and now am getting the itch once again. You have a great looking layout and I look forward to seeing how this track progresses.

For me as a swiss guy it is so interesting to see the difference between european and american scale-railroading. Whilst you have big boxes for one single loco and single decoders for pretty much everything. On the other side of the atlantic you either have a get n' go layout, you buy all the different components for one system from one company or you have to do it yourself. Of course also a nice video Keep up the great work Greetings from Switzerland Philipp

Reminds me of the old track switches in the UK. Metal rods would run from signal boxes along track to points (and wires for signals) I wonder if anyone has replicated above-surface rods for points.
@ronaldseto2 жыл бұрын
Way back around the 1960's, I used wires and bell cranks to control my turnouts. They were easy to construct, and they worked well. My new layout uses Marklin M-track controlled by solenoids. I could use bell cranks and wires on manual turnouts.
@andrewstevenson54493 жыл бұрын
Fantastic work. The scale of the bridge is breathtaking, and your solution to the point control is very elegant and neatly executed. Did you construct the bridge yourself too?

Great tutorial. New stuff here I haven't seen. Do you have any video of how you made the store bride archways?
@rcgrabbag2 жыл бұрын
The bridge was built by a friend of mine. He makes laser cut kits for a living so he's got some good modeling skills. He basically hand made an arch in wood, made a mold, cast it in plaster, carved the stone work into it, made another mold, and then proceeded to cast the arches. The stone work is done in a way so that the arches blend together along the mortar lines.

Excellent work. Now if someone can figure out how to add one of those "Shaker" speakers to the system so that when the train goes by, you can FEEL the vibration as well as hear the sound effects. At Disney's Epcot, in one of the shows, they transmit a certain frequency that vibrates your chest bones in such a way that the effect is to induce tears in your eyes. Cool stuff.

So I'm not a model railroaded but I can definitely appreciate it. Forgive me if you already covered this, but what can you tell us about the name, era, and locale of your layout? It seems pretty neat to be able to create an entire world in miniature and I'm just curious why you chose the things that you did. Also, how fast would you say your passenger train was going in scale mpg around the 20:00 minute mark? Whenever I visit HO scale club layouts like the CASME around the holidays, it seems like the trains are going painfully slow because I'm forgetting that everything is scaled down. Thanks!
@rcgrabbag3 жыл бұрын
Name is North Edge and Everee. Era is transition (1950's). Locale is fictional mountain and urban railroading. Hard to say, maybe 30-40mph for train speed. Thanks for watching!

Considering the relatively large length of the pushrods and guide tubes and the distances between the servos and points, are there any issues with differential thermal expansion in your setup, or do the servos somehow compensate so that the points reliably move over their full range for the range of room temperature where your layout is located?
@rcgrabbag3 жыл бұрын
The room is climate controlled so I don't expect any issues there. The throws can always be electronically adjusted through the stationary decoder if needed.
