John, thanks for sharing this video! The on-board footage was a lot of fun to watch. I am surprised by your scale pilot solution and how incredibly well that worked out! Thanks for sharing that too. Nice to know that your first fenestron build worked out so well. I completed my first fenestron build last year. A Roban EC 135 meant for trex 500 mechanics. I fitted an electric brushless motor (and drone prop) inside the fenestron housing. Since I was using no tailboom, I completely ditched the trex 500 mech and utilized an ALZRC X360 6s mech, mounted with the tailboom exit towards the front (mounted backwards). Used 3S batteries and fitted the Goblin 420 rotor blades (they fit the X360 rotorhead just fine). Some creative mixing and some persistense were required, but it turned out better than I had expected. The whole thing, ready to fly, weighs a bit less than my stock Trex 500 ready to fly. I would not have had the courage to tackle scale builds if it wasn't for your ebooks, your youtube channel and your website. Many many thanks for helping me to greatly enjoy this amazing hobby! Btw, my Phoenixtech-widened trex 600 esp is still going strong, thanks in no small part to all the parts I purchased from your website. I love that heli. Best regards from Brasilia, Brazil.

Hello again John! I didn't want to put this question here, but my thinking behind it, was this is your latest video. Therefore, you might be more apt to see it. You might remember me, you might not. I purchased your Ebooks on flying Helicopters, and was told by someone on RCGroups to follow your course on how to fly from beginner, a few years ago. It's a great program! I'm well into CP's now, and I can't tell you how many crashes and repairs I've made getting here, but, I'm here. My problem is, "Swashplate Leveling". I have the levelers, for each Heli's I own, but while I have most of it figured out, including the Zip Tie method, nobody on KZbin seems to have a video, that explains, from start to finish, exactly how to do it. As I said, it can do it, but, I think I could do it better, if someone LIKE YOU, made a video, of exactly how to do it, from the radio, to the linkage adjustments, and making things as close to a perfect level, with minimal trim input when doing the trim flight test. Any thoughts? Might you do a video on this in the future? Thank you.
@Rchelicopterfun2 жыл бұрын
Howdy, Not sure what more I could cover that I don't already show in detail in my Swashplate Setup & Leveling eBook. The 3 basic steps are followed regardless: 1. Get the best servo arm center position by spline placement first. 2. Then level the servo arm electronically through the FBL system or radio (stabilization system dependent ). 3. Mechanically level the swash with pushrod adjustment. I do show these three primary & fundamental steps in a video I did a while back on setting up an H1 system if you did want to see them being performed on a helicopter in a video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYimn4yontl0jqs The swash leveling portion starts at time index 13.12. If you have anything specifically you want cleared up that is in the swash ebook you don't understand, as stated in the ebooks, it's always best to contact me through my website because as you correctly pointed out, I don't see all youtube comments, but I always check every single email I get on my website daily.

Thanks for the kind feedback Keith. MAAC (model aeronautics association of Canada) lost their Transport Canada exemptions last month. It's a dark time for RC aviation in Canada right now. I have as a result also lost my flying field at our little airport that I, our zone director and the airport operator worked so hard to establish back in 2021. As it sands right now with all the turmoil between MAAC, it's members, and Transport Canada, no idea if we (our club and many others operating out of small airfields) might be able to get them back. If we can't, I'll be forced to give up the hobby like so many others are being forced to right now. RC aviation is not the fun it was. Mabey I should change the name of my website from RC Helicopter Fun, to RC Helicopter Misery. 🤔 Channel will likely suffer. Already had to turn down two cool helis for reviewing once spring weather arrives. Have an OMP M2 EVO here to review, but looks I'll be sending it back to OMP now. We will see.

@Rchelicopterfun Жыл бұрын
No idea on the 500e. As shown on this EC130 in the build video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKDGeXmMbctsZsU) two separate 6S packs must be used to get as much mass forward of the mast in the space allowed under the back seat platform to get the CG close to the mark.

@RchelicopterfunАй бұрын
I fly my larger RC helicopters with the FrSky X12S. As for computerized radio recommendations, basically the one you currently use for your collective pitch helicopters, are comfortable with and know inside out. Last thing most people want to do is introduce an unknown/unproven radio system and protocol into a new large scale heli build. There are enough things to sort out with one of these builds.

Hey John. Nice aircraft. My EC-130 didn’t have such good luck. My tail exploded, but I think my rotor rpm was too high. I used a Kontronik Kosmik, but I think the my ESC wasn’t setup correctly at spool up. I’m building a Blackhawk and can’t find the right materials for the pilot. Would you be willing to build a couple of the bodies for price to help me along? I also have an EC-135 that I’ve been sitting on for years because the first Roban Fenestron tails weren’t effective for the size and weight of the aircraft. Unfortunately, they don’t sell the units separately.

Yep, Motion RC don't get many in and they sell out fast! Covid delays/shortages have only made it worse; guessing Roban's factory production has slowed substantially. I created a stock notification alert at Motion RC for this specific EC130 version last February, they finally showed up in May and had sold out in a couple weeks. Motion RC seems to get a couple big Roban kit stock orders a year and my guess is another stock order will arrive before the end of November for the holiday shopping season, not to mention it has been almost 6 months since the last one. Best to contact Motion RC directly to confirm.

In terms of battery life and distance how far can it go
@Rchelicopterfun Жыл бұрын
Range is dictated by VLOS (visual line of sight). You can only fly a radio controlled helicopter (or airplane) as far out as you can see it well enough to maintain flight control. The larger the model, the better the lighting, and the better your eyesight the further away from your position you can go. In short, you'll lose practical visual distance long before radio frequency distance. Battery life is dependent on your setup & how well you manage your collective and cyclic energy. This video shows a full flight (around 7 minutes) with my setup and scale flying style.
@chatter15005 Жыл бұрын
What is flight time with one of these
@Rchelicopterfun Жыл бұрын
Like all electric collective pitch RC helicopters flying time is dependent on setup, head speed, battery capacity, flying style, how well you manage your collective and cyclic energy, to name the main variables (there are more). With my flying style, setup, head RPM, battery capacity etc. I get a solid 7:30 to 8:00 minutes not taking the LiPo's lower than a 75% discharged state. I could likely push it to 8:30, even 9:00 minutes, but I like keeping my LiPo's happy & healthy. 🙂
