Now this is great to see! Regarding the "low 1st," you remind me of what a friend told me about an exam he had taken: he literally scraped a pass, and showed it to his father, anticipating a disappointed reaction. Instead, his father smiled, patted him on the back and said "well done - no point doing more work than you needed to!!!" Obviously, it's important to aim high, and watching your channel I am rapidly forming the impression that you are the kind of person that always aims high. That effort counts for so much in life. If you hit the bullseye, it hardly matters that you don't hit it squarely in the centre.

It blows my mind that you get graded on seminar participation! I had a lot of exams cancelled so most of my first year grades relied solely on coursework. I still did really well, but because my coursework is usually due towards the beginning of a module, I feel that having exams or seminar participation scores would've boosted my grades quite a bit! Well done on your results Ruby; they're amazing!
@jessicawalton46904 жыл бұрын
Well done Ruby! I got Firsts and 2:1s in first year (unsure of an overall), overall first (just!) in second year and just graduated with a first so it’s a sign of good things to come I reckon!
@izzylk18024 жыл бұрын
i see the grades more as first = A* 2:1 = A 2:2 = B third = C after all, a third is still a pass & firsts are hard to achieve, similarly to an A*
@Lucy-ob7ww4 жыл бұрын
At my university, the grade scheme works like this A+ , A, A- = First B+, B, B- = 2:1 C+, C, C- = 2:2 D+, D, D- = Third E = marginal fail F = Fail Third is still a pass but I’ve always assumed all universities followed these increment schemes haha
@georgec94284 жыл бұрын
Obviously a first is excellent - but it's not uncommon to see 85% or 90% of students getting a 2:1 or above, (often students treat this as the pass grade rather than a third) so I'd be hesitant to call a 2:1 an A or compare a third to a C which is a pretty respectable grade at A-level. (you'd have probably been right in the 80s/90s)
@erin-eh2sl4 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on this, because at school A* is the top grade, and at uni a first is the top grade
@erin-eh2sl4 жыл бұрын
George C at my uni if we get a third we still passed and got a degree so i dont understand why some people would treat 2:1 as the pass mark

Ruby Granger omg you replied thank you!! I’m really interested how you approach the books your read for pleasure, and maybe also the books you study for uni if the approach is any different? X

@@RubyGranger8 I would be interessted in that too! Especially in studying books (for university) with a special question that came up while reading or even before or under a special topic... hope you know what I mean^^ And on the other hand study books you read for pleasure seems like something less people do these days and your approach on that would also be very interessting ;) Well studying books is in general a very interessting topic, more so when someone as passionate about vooks as you talks about it. To end this mess of a comment: It seems I need more friends, who not only read but also love to talk and discuss what they read and maybe even research on it, because books can't only open doors to new (fictional) worlds or times long gone, they can spark intrests in topics you may never have heard of if you weren't a reader, but which change your view on the (real) world in the most uncommon and drastic and fantastic ways. :D

But i try not to worry about it and hope that i get a better grade next year and that i do well on the university exam we have, to get my average higher. im from sweden btw

With your exam grades you should bear in mind that they've been moderated according to your benchmark grade. The university didn't release exactly how this was done or how it varied from department to department but in my subject we found that the average of our exam grades was extremely close to our calculated benchmark grade (our exams were 24 hour open book). This leads me to believe that, for students that did very well in the open book exams, their grades were scaled heavily down towards the benchmark. So you may have a raw mark for your criticisms exam that is a lot higher than the 70 you achieved.

Getting a First in nearly every module is a phenomenal achievement 😍 Even though you were already feeling content with the switch, I hope these marks will help you to fully settle into your English course, knowing that it’s right for you and that you’ll be able to excel academically. I ended up doing something similar with transferring universities and I really doubted my ability to make the grades in my final year but it was only when I saw my first semester results that I could rest easy with my choice. I’m sure you’re feeling a similar sense of relief! 😄 Huge congratulations, your marks are so well deserved and I hope you’ll get to celebrate them 😊
