It's because Floor is THERE, in the moment, with them. Sometimes Tarja seemed to be somewhere else when she was on stage. And Anette had stage fright, or was very nervous when she was on stage.
@honestbenny
@honestbenny 4 жыл бұрын
@@darkiee69 Not to mention there was absolutely no way she could keep up with Marco if he went full out, which was also sad cause Marco had to hold off to not overshadow "lead singer". No more problem with Floor, he can just go all out and she will always keep up and go even higher if needed. Annette was a failure of singer, because singer is as good as he/she is on live.

FYI: Troy is a BARD. Full on. "It's almost annoying." Oh, you made me chuckle! You want to be jealous, but you enjoy what they do so much! If it makes you feel any better, Tuomas been SERIOUSLY doing this for over 20 yrs, fanatically devoted to perfection. The inside of his head must be a vast swirling galaxy the size of the Milky Way. He has entire solar systems in there. All full of music. Which, you know, doesn't leave room for much else. And can I just shout out for Floor? She is trail blazing for a lot of young female singers, showing them that they can be more than just something pretty to look at on stage. Floor OWNS her power, her great talents and dedication to training. She is a force to be reckoned with, an equal partner on the stage. Yeah, she's smokin' hot. But she's more than a stage ornament.

I was going to say the same thing, it's almost unfair to other bands how much talent these guys have between them, it's simply ludicrous. And you're right, he does have such oceans within. What a line, what a line. 🖤 God, that whole part of the song just absolutely guts me. Can't hear a playthrough without crying like a baby. It's like Devin Townsend's "spirits will collide". I think it was J.S. Bach (or other equally famous composer) once said something to the effect "Learn all the rules so you know how to break them." Tuomas does generally follow rules, and likewise breaks them for specific effect, and does it surprisingly well.

I really appreciate how you're giving shoutouts to Emppu on the guitar. As I watch these different reactions, he tends to go unnoticed because he's not as show-offy as some lead guitarists may be, with long wailing solos and whatnot... But I do love the richness he's bringing to the music and I absolutely adore his riffs. His are among some of my most favourite in all of metal. So, props for giving Emppu his just props! :D

Yeah Chase and Elizabeth Zharoff are about the only ones that pickup on Troy so quickly. As much as I really like Julia, I think Elizabeth is a better reactor.... especial her serious giggles, nerdy responses about science, and facial expressions. I've watch a lot of reactors too. There is an older composer dude (Doug Helvering) that really picks up on the time signatures, key changes, et. al. I think Chase is one of the best overall reactors. I have to admin that out of the maybe 50 reactors to GLS, 10 of them provided useful technical information about GLS (like Tank the Tech) that give a more complete understanding of everything.

This song was written during the Annette era so has a more pop/metal style vocal. Floor makes it so much better. She's so amazing that she pulls back into the harmony part to compliment Marco's vocals and really blends with him instead of sounding like 2 soloists singing at the same time.

@@forgalzz7 I definitely agree with you, totally blind videos are my preference like 98% of the time, but in my personal opinion, the *content* of Poet is far, far too important to just coast through it like people do with their first listen through of most songs. @@Pitchblackbones - Agree to that, have seen one reactor doing it without reading up on the back story and it didn't go well. I've always thought Nightwish had a proggy influence to them. There's something very sneaky and subtle about the way Tuomas writes music. You can tell by all the attention put into the details that he really knows what he's doing and that he's also got the good fortune to have band members around that are excellent musicians in their own right. It's not showing off but below the surface you can see that they're secretly stupidly good musicians, they just don't feel the need to overplay. Which makes even more complex pieces like this one (structurally it's just like - wow) or Song of Myself all the more impressive, because at first sight you don't realize there's so much stuff going on. It doesn't hurt their vocalist is one of the most talented women around either. Also, their hometown in Kitee has a museum dedicated to these guys run by their former music teacher.

Before you get to the BIG TWO ( Poet and the pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth) Big because they are both over ten minuets. I think you need to see: I want my tears back (Live at Wacken) Shows more of Troys talents and a new side you have yet to see. Dark Chest of wonders (Wacken) A kickass opener for more of that metal goodness. Wish I Had An Angel (Wacken) For more Floor and Marco harmonies. The Islander (live at Tampere) Beautiful Marco showpiece. While your lips are still red (live at Wembley) One of Nightwish's slower songs and great vocals by Marco. Nemo and Ever Dream (both at Wacken) mainly because they are two very popular songs and the whole Wacken show is gold. Yours is an Empty Hope (Wembley 2015) Proper grows from Floor in this one. Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean (live in Buenos Aries) A very old song reborn but it's a must see. It is insane. Dead Boy's Poem (live Buenos Aries) Another old song redone. Very emotional performance. Shudder Before The Beautiful (Wembley) For me personally it's the guitar riff that does it for me. There's probably some I missed but then I think you are good to go on THE BIG TWO. After that you can jump into their new album which i can't get over how well it is made, I think you will love it and would be able to talk for hours about it.

The shot of Empuu 'showing off' is, I believe, him throwing his plectrums into the crowd. I've noticed him do it before. I also noticed when he takes a new one, he uses it first, before throwing it into the crowd, adding to it's value to whoever is lucky enough to catch it. It's the little things that count... Another laser sharp analysis. Kudos.

Really perked my ears up when you mentioned Empuu's solo having note changes that sound just almost a hair too late. I'm sure there's a musical term for that, but I can't find it in my brain currently. It's definitely there, and keeps your interest peaked. Floor does this also, in particular in her Beste Zanger performances (I can't remember which ones this moment). They're both already good, they already have your attention, but it's like they're making craft choices which edge you closer and closer to the front of your seat listening to them. As musicians, Nightwish have so many incremental buffs above "hitting the right notes" it's just astounding.

A very poetic song about "Carpe Deim"! I think Nightwish tunes to D. That is exactly the beauty and fun of watching great and knowledgeable reactors listening and reacting to our favorite songs. We get to relive the joy and experience these songs again as if it is our first time as well! Being a musician also makes your analysis and appreciation for these compositions and musical techniques all that much better. Most listeners without a musical background can not appreciate or even pick up on all of the intricacies. You are ready for "The Poet and the Pendulum". It is a masterpiece of musical theater and storytelling. The key to experiencing the full impact of this song is to understand the lyrics. They are all sung from the perspective of Tuomas. It is based around the firing of their first vocalist, Tarja. Tuomas received much negative feedback from the fans for firing Tarja, which in my opinion was done with good reason. This song is inspire, obviously by Edgar Allen Poe's famous story "The Pit and the Pendulum". If you are familiar with this story and the mental anguish that the protagonist endures you will better understand the lyrical journey that you go through in this song. Overall the song deals with Tuomas' emotional ride after the firing that almost leads him to do the unthinkable. Fortunately he does it in this song, which allows us all to experience his depression and manic emotions during this episode in the Nightwish storyline. This song appeared on the very next CD "Dark Passion Play", as the opening track about 2 years later with a new vocalist, Annette Olzen. Tarja, the first vocalist (Very operatic) was beloved by the NIghtwish fans and most fans thought this would be the end of Nightwish. It almost was until several years later and after letting Annette go as well, they found the perfect vocalist for Nightwish. Floor Jansen! See you for the next one my musical friend.

Great analysis as usual. It is not an acoustic guitar, but a bouzouki played by Troy, which is a long neck lute with 4 pairs of strings. Also I would strongly recommend that when you pause, to always skip back a few seconds to not miss little details, like at the 7:50 mark where they only do a partial musical phrase.

Great reaction as always - I am by no means a guitar expert nor do i play that well, but the info for Emppu's guitars are as follows: Emppu has tuned his studio guitars in D tuning since the release of Century Child (2002) - until then, his guitars were tuned in standard. During concerts, he has two guitars - one for each tuning - In 2004 Vuorinen started using an ESP custom shop version of the Horizon known as the EV-1. The EV-1 has an alder body, maple neck (neck through construction), ebony fingerboard, Seymour Duncan pickups (a Duncan Custom TB-5 in the bridge, a SHR-1n Hot Rails in the middle, and a SH2-n Jazz in the neck), 5 way switch, single volume control and a gold Floyd Rose tremolo system. He regularly used two during live shows, a purple one tuned to DGCFAD and a white one tuned to EADGBE. After the release of Dark Passion Play in 2007 he toured with a new signature guitar, the EV-2. This was very similar to the purple EV-1, but now had a tone control and a large decal on the body known as the "Harem Girl". The third incarnation of the series, the EV-3 appeared in 2012 featuring the Imaginaerum cover art and no middle pickup. On the band's 2012/13 Imaginaerum World Tour, Vuorinen used the EV-1 and EV-3. During rehearsals for Nightwish's eighth album Emppu has been using a new custom guitar, built for him by Ruokangas Guitars Hope that helps shed some light on his set up mate.

Rijl Qanturis - you could be on to something... Floor and Nightwish had know each other already for a long time before she joined... Floor performed with Marco already years before and she was, together with her band After Forever, the support act for Nightwish in the Netherlands... Personally I believe Anette would never have been in Nightwish if Floor had been available (she was busy at the time with her own projects).

I'll tell you the truth, I follow a lot of people who react, particularly to people who react to Nightwish a lot. And you're definitely giving my other people a run for their money, jockeying places for either my number 1 favorite reactor, or second. You've hit the nail precisely on its' head, watching your joy, pure, unadulterated joy at these songs... man, nostalgia is exactly what it is. It's such an absolute pleasure getting to see people hopelessly in love with the band that has shaped such a large part of my life, musically and otherwise. I'm sure my fianceé is tired of me spamming NW reaction videos day-in and day-out, but it's genuinely similar to what you said at the beginning about the song showing almost a glimpse of what songwriting looks like for Tuomas (by the way, if nobody's clarified, the U is pronounced in his name, like, Two-oh-mas with a soft 'oh', it's tricky!) I genuinely feel those flashes of euphoria myself, watching those moments happen, day after day, video after video. It's genuinely like watching a person fall in love, and that is breathtakingly beautiful to me. Watching such excitement and surprise and genuine emotion is breathtaking. Take all the time you need. And by the way, after this video, I genuinely think that you finally understand the complexity of what you're dealing with. I think you're ready for Poet and the Pendulum. You want to watch the version at Wembley 2015, I believe it's the same show as this 7 days to the Wolves, if that tells you anything. Now, I STRONGLY encourage you to check out the history of this song, as well as the context. It's a PROFOUNDLY personal song for Tuomas, and it is very emotional. You also need to make sure that you have the lyrics either printed out, on your phone, or on a second monitor, cause you need to be able to hear the lyrics, and they can be tough to hear. This is a link to a lyrics site that includes all of the lyrics for the song, including the boy's sung part at the beginning, which is sometimes ignored in lyrics sheets. www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/nightwish/thepoetandthependulum.html Keep it going, friend. We're here for the long haul. And don't forget to leave a candle lit in this dark, dark world.

Great contribution to the better technically understanding of the song. I only would suggest to also look at how NW is using lightning colors and pyrotechnics in support of the lyrics and music. NW frequently use blue and green for cooling down and red, orange, yellow and even white to underline the changes in accent of the vocals or music in order to give extra strength to meaning of the song. Everything is so in sync and gives that special NW feeling to be yourself into that movie.
