i like that syd doesn't just put these games on blast but focuses on the stories and character development once tbe obligatory "horrified reaction to the weird parts" segments are over with. you can tell she does respect the games she talks about, even if the horror is played up for laughs. and if her content gets more eyes on clockup's amazing darker games, that's a good thing i think! also i may very well be the only euphoria fan who not only tolerates rika but actually kinda loves her. i was always the sheltered crybaby kid myself so i found her plight and her frustrations with herself really relatable and really sad. i want to protect her smile :(

I hate that people were bashing syd for not getting the "deep meaning" of Euphoria because honestly, it simply does not matter that it actually did have some kind of theme and something to say. It's too awful an adventure to get to that "satisfying" ending and is simply not worth it. No one read Euphoria for the plot. Everyone read it because of how fucked up it is. You can find the exact same thematic elements in all kinds of media including a ton of VNs. Hell, I'd argue it's just a disgusting version of Higurashi that, imo, did not have the same amount pay-off and satisfaction as Higurashi because the overall story was weaker and, again, there is no "deeper meaning" worth getting to with how nauseating Euphoria is.

But you can’t, though. The “disgusting” parts are the theme of Euphoria, something completely absent from other works you cite as having the exact same thematic elements like Higurashi. The most important element of Euphoria is Keisuke’s deviant sexuality. You really can’t find many other VNs that genuinely try to explore a theme like that.

I can get wholesome/deep stories elsewhere, even in games with grotesque violence. And this isn't me saying Euphoria fans are disgusting for playing the game - I have a morbid fascination with it myself. But people should call it what it is: a game of profound sexual depravity that's hard to stomach.

There are a lot of people who claim that Euphoria isn’t ’that bad’ and that Sydney is overreacting. While she is probably overreacting a bit for the video, I think this was the first really screwed up visual novel she ever played, or at least made a video about. Since then shes been reviewing more incredibly dark guro visual novels on her channel like Sadistic Blood and Maggot Baits.

For me Euphoria was the gateway to the "wonderful" world of the Eroguro genre... Honestly, I do think you can find some of the most amazing and jaw dropping masterpieces in this genre (Wonderful Everyday / Muramasa *wink-wink*. By the way August, I'm still waiting for your review about the Wonderful Everyday :D ). The developers doesn't refrain from adding some completly non-convetional, really heavy thoughts into the mix (which you may never met before). That's why I love this genre. No wonder though. The content is controversial anyway, so some added "spice" doesn't really matter. It's all the same. Is the over the top goru crap really neccessary to convey the message? No, but developers try to target the widest audiance, hence they rarely has the guts to convey some controversial message trough an otherwise tame and digestable story. (Not to mention (for eg.) Dead End Aegis which wouldn't even be nearly as impactful and meaningful without the depressing porn content) As for Euphoria? It was definetly an experience. Although, it is not the best or the most meaningful in the genre, but still it was an unconvetional and unique love story. What I did not expect at all. Also, it made me think about a few things which I didn't met before. Was it worth to hold back my puke time to time? For me definietly.

I loved euphoria. It turns the generic twist of "the cute and lovable game turns out to be EVIL and SCARY" on it's head and it felt PERFECT the first time i've read it. I know that it's not everyone's cup of tea but as i see it if i play a horror game with themes of sexual violence and perversion it seems logical for the story to actually SHOW us said violence and perversion. And also...[SPOILERS]Ughm, akchually, Rine was born intersex, so the scientists manipulated the cult leader to give them the messiah and supposedly purposefully turned her female to fuck with the cult and the question of Rine's age is answered by the scientists aging her up to be the same age as the other euphoria machine host (Nemu).

It's sad I can't even defend Euphoria. I played it after watched her video. Thinking it's not THAT bad. And to an extent it isn't. But you play Euphoria with some idea of what you are getting yourself into. Nothing was pretty shocking in the VN besides the tube scene I still don't particularly understand why was that needed to be there. I do really love the overall story and of course Nemu is best character. I got so many laughs from Keisuke trying to break Nemu and she just wags her finger at him and laugh. And I also dont hate Rika.

I will say, I heavily disliked how she went about watching the OVA to get the true end details. lol The fifth episode adapted ELEMENTS of the true ending into it, but it doesn't really play out remotely like the game, making it... disappointing that I didn't get to hear her full thoughts on the *game* itself, like how she discussed Maggot Baits during her review. The OVA was also just a hot mess in general, I think it's better as a treat for fans of the game rather than newbies to euphoria itself. The OVA lacks the emotional elements of the true ending as well. I dunno, as funny as her review was, as a hardcore euphoria fan it kinda pissed me off in other respects, LOL. I agree 100% with your assessment on it being okay for people to drop the game if they feel it's too much for them, though. Maybe she *did* play the whole game??? I've played it. It's a lot rougher than normal people but its not as bad. Euphoria, isn't as bad as Magget beats, or as bad as some anime Konajo x Konajo about a guy who holds this chick hostage she proceeds to go insane. Or some older hentai like house of a thousand toungues, or a hentai called Milk Money, I could go on. Night Shift Nurses has more crape in it literally then Euphoria did.The anime is a okay hentai but the Visual novel is a low key masterpiece. Like yes it is a saw semulator. But their is also a dark story about corprute explotation scifi themes and how far you would go to save someone you cared about. Would you die for them, would you kill for them. The visual novel ask the question what is the depths of insanity your willing to go to. How far before you snap. I think the visual novel is also a real good decunstruction of beshojo games. It makes you as the player ask am I a monster for putting these characters through this. Am I just as sadistic as the main character is. The scenes are meant to excite you, but at the same time they do not hold back. I remember a scene where in one of the girls snaps basically has a break with reality and convinces herself that he's doing this to me because he loves me. And the main character low key says I don't love you. Then she says then why are you doing it, Honestly the moment felt like fourth wall break. They show the same scene in the anime as well. But it's not as well done. They only show the bulk of the story in two episodes. Episode 5 and six.

I would love to see the extreme h3nt41 anime/manga community react to "Sāló: Or the 120 Days of Soddom" by Paolo Pasolini. It's a political horror film by a fay man who was trying to force the audience to feel the same dread, revulsion, hopelessness, violation, and fear that a queer artist living under Fascist rule felt. It makes the content in Euphoria and Matgot Baits seem PG-13 by comparison in a lot of ways. It's also live action, shot on the highest trade cameras the early 1970s had to offer, and is considered to be one of the most vile, horrifying, and unwatchable films ever made; it's also known as one of the most effective, groundbreaking, subversive, and beautifully shot films ever made and was a founding work of the post-Hayes Code horror genre and extremity exploitation media (like MB, Euphoria, &c.) too. It frequently winds up on "100 must watch/most important/most influential/greatest films" lists; even with it's extreme content. It was banned in Italy under the Neo-Fascist government of the 1970s and was first screened in Paris 3 weeks after Pasolini's assassination (which has been confirmed to have been arranged by the fascist party and mafia due to his political stances, homosexuality, and foreign influence). The assassination was carried out by a bribed & blackmailed 17 year old who posed as an older fay sex worker and then shot Pasolini and then claimed self defense accusing the dead director of attempted Forcible S.A. The irony of this is that everyone who worked on his film, especially the younger cast members, had a great time working with him and he made sure that in spite of the way everything looked they were actually eating ultra delicious and decadant foods & had a wonderful experience. The acting in the film is incredible though so the performers really sell the horror, disgust, and violation of it all.

You need to pick and choose the episodes you watch to see the routes represented, they try to overcomplicate an already pretty complex story, there are some plot differences that make no fucking sense, they packed the worst shit in the Visual Novel into the first episode... Just don't. Play the game. Turn on the scat filter if you're here for the story, but DO NOT watch the anime.
