Willow: This one is a simple track about unexpectedly falling hard for someone. It's against all her plans and everything she thought was gonna happen but she's all for it. Champagne Problems: It's about two people who had very different plans for the same night. The guy pops the question to the girl and she breaks it off instead. There's no celebration despite everything the guy had planned and it's a moment of ultimate irony. It's hinted that the girl has some mental issues and the society scoffs at her, looking at her like a mad woman. Champagne Problems is an idiom used to talk about issues of the rich being nothing when compared to serious issues like poverty or death of someone and mental issues are offen passed off as such. Gold Rush: It's about dreaming about falling for and chasing this guy who everybody wants and loves as she founds herself drawn to him as well. It draws a parallel to Lover's "I'm highly suspicious that everyone who sees you wants you". In the end she stops herself from getting lost in that dream because "she doesn't like a gold rush". Tis The Damn Season and Dorothea: Dorothea is about this country girl who leaves for LA to make a name for herself like a lot of small town girls do and it is sung from the perspective of her lover from her hometown. Taylor also mentioned that although Dorothea isn't related to the highschool love triangle but she went to the same highschool as Betty, James and Inez. Tis The Damn Season is a sequel to Dorothea. It talks about when Dorothea came back to her hometown for the holidays and met with that old flame of hers and realises what they has was beautiful. Tolerate it: This one to me sounds like a married girl who's a stay at home wife. She looks up to her husband and loves him with everything she has. She thinks he's older and more mature than her and that it seems like she's considers herself below him. She gives him everything but he just seems to be tolerating her and the marriage for the sake of it. She suspects that he doesn't really respect or love her. Near the end she says that she could leave him if she wanted to but then the song ends with the opening lyrics which makes me think that she ended staying with him and doing nothing about it in the end and her threats to leave him were empty after all. No body, no crime: This track paints a thrilling story or infidelity and murder. It tells the tale of Este, her husband, his mistress and the singer. Este suspects that her husband has been cheating on her but she has no way of proving it. She says she ain't letting untill the day she dies and ironically she does end up dying. Maybe she confronted her husband about the affair and he killed her. Nobody knows who killed her and so he gets away with it. The singer realises the fact that Este's husband has been acting suspicious and that he has killed her. Being Este's close friend, the singer seeks revenge. Having a boating license and being a maid helps her motive as she kills Este's husband and dumps him in the ocean. The mistress took out a big life insurance policy and was then conveniently framed. Everybody she thinks that she killed him but they can't prove it, meanwhile the mistress knows that the singer did it but she can't prove it either. Happiness: To me it was about looking back at a past relationship which you were bitter about with the maturity of hindsight. She has finally come to terms with all that went wrong between them and is ready to clean up all the bad blood between them and remember the relationship as a what it was- a bundle of memories which did make her happy at some point of time. Conney Island: I'm not sure about this one but it felt like a relationship which broke down because one of them became famous and were cast into the spotlight and they got a little lost in the light and forgot to look back at the one who was there for then all along. Ivy: This is about a girl who's in an unhappy marriage and finds herself drawn to another man. Despite having a husband, she pursues and affair with this guy who she just can't help but fall far. There's fear and thrill in this illicit affair and she wonders what would happen if her husband ever found out. Cowboy Like Me: This sounds like the tale of two con artists. Both Rob rich people of their money from one way or another. It is hinted that they capture the hearts of their victims and then end up robbing them. When the meet each other, they are drawn to each other and end up getting together. I'm not sure but the end to me seemed like the guy, just like it was in his nature, ended up robbing this girl as well while she had fallen for him for real this time. Long Story Short: Long story short, this is about Taylor getting over all her past turmoils like 2016 incident and all her bad relationships and finding love and happiness in Joe. Marjorie: This is a tribute to her grandmother who was an opera singer. Her vocals are audible in the outro. Closure: This song is at a direct contrast to happiness. It's about her refusing to give the greenlight of forgiveness to a past lover who write her a letter seeking for forgives and closure to ease his own conscience. Evermore: This, I think is about Joe too. It talks about how through all the darkness, maybe throughout her life or of the lockdown, she found solace in her beloved and with him there she feels hopeful and knows in her heart that all these dark clouds wouldn't stay forevermore.

It's such a cute album. It's amazing how Taylor only finished the last song she wrote, happiness, last week. That's mind blowing
@nicolehunt48734 жыл бұрын
Happiness is about the end of a very serious relationship - maybe a divorce - in which the two just can't seem to make it work. And realizing that eventually, they will both find happiness again and forgiveness. She says when she's above the trees she can see it but when she's down in it she can't face it. Objectively, she knows it's not going to last but she doesn't want to accept that. It's a gorgeous song about life after love.
@sophielambie30364 жыл бұрын
I get a major Out of the Woods vibe with the 'above the trees' line. Like that repeated imagery of the woods as feeling lost and trapped by a relationship and now she's just above it and can see it all clearly. Maybe that's just me, but it's magic x

Folklore and Evermore have been the soundtrack to my feels and insecurities and relationship for these past two months, so many songs have hit me and hurt me and comforted me and brought me clarity in multiple waves, and now my partner has just broken up with me last night. I'm glad her lyrics are getting the analysis and exposure that their brilliant poignancy and storytelling deserves. Every single line of Peace was me to the core hoping our deep love for each other was enough despite the external disapproval and conflict of our situation, which was basically Illicit Affairs (no infidelity but still secrecy). And then yesterday afternoon I was feeling worried about his emotional distance of late and Tolerate It just absolutely hit me. After he broke up with me, knowing that we both love each other so much but having a marriage and family together cannot happen, listening to the new album sitting in the shower and hearing Happiness brought a hint of peace and resignation to my heart. Taylor's music has really helped carry me through this rollercoaster of a relationship.

No body no crime is from the point of view of a friend, telling the story of how her friend's husband seems to be cheating on her but she has no proof, and then right after she says she'll confront him on it, she disappears and Taylor is SURE the husband killed her, so she kills him. She goes, good think her sister (the dead wife's sister) will swear she was with me. So she kills the guy and frames the other woman he was cheating on his wife with
