(SORRY for the freaking novela below lol. Typing is part of the exercises I currently need to do daily as rehabilitation for my hands and wrists, so why not use it once for a comment nobody will read, but will be fun to write ;) TD;DR - - Guhle =top 4 def, should be paired with Mailloux next year which looks like a great second pair imho!; - Habs already have most of their future team in their system, aside from one or maybe two players to slot in the top 6 forward group; - we'll overpay for one or both in 2-3 years (like hughes said; they are working to have both the cap space and trade capital to acquire + sign long term their #1 offensive weapon when it will be time to do so. I think Fowler and Volokhin will be our future goalie tandem. I go into more details, but if anyone has an educated opinion on Quentin (?) Miller, I'd love to know what the consensus on what he could become; - Drafting a top forward talent next draft like Demidov would make things simpler (also, since most other teams drafting in the top 10 will try to get one of the many possible top tier def prospects, trading up might be possible to nab a Demidov; if he finish outside of the top 5 but not far from top 10 that is, or huge trade capital will be needed); it will depend on many many factors; - Happy to have missed the PLD train. It's a good player, but I explain why he's not the guy we need, but either way, I wish him the best in LA and think it should be his most productive season of his young career (it's easier to do when you have a guy like Philip Danault shutting down the opposing best line ;). You can read the entire thing if you're bored eh :P _________________ Guhle, at around the end of the top 10 position or a bit outside of it like they placed him here at number 12 (he got drafted at #16) is a good place for him to be right now. It's all despite his huge injury misfortunes. The simple fact that he managed to rise a few spots despite all that really tells you how good he is and can become. I have no doubt that he will be, or is already, a top 4 caliber def in the NHL. He's insanely balanced for such a young def, and so would not have zero problem to be paired with a big defensive def or with an offensive one. If there's chemistry, since he mostly shoots L , I'd love to see him paired with Mailloux next year, who is a BIG offensive and physical R shot def prospect; the latter would definitely benefit from being paired to such a well rounded L shot def like Guhle. Not too shabby for a young top 4. I wish Xhekaj would shoot R so that he could be paired (at least part time) with Lane Hutson. But I feel Hutson will be used for something new in the NHL, and if someone can think of it, I'm sure MSL is the guy. I'd use Lane as a sort of 4th forward with a single real def (a bit like some PPs out there but in 5v5). So in effect he'd be a 7th def in the team, but FAR from the typical player that's usually branded as such. The Backster will be in the top 2 with... IDK. as for the right shot def to play with Xhekaj on the as 6th, we have a ton of talented ones within our prospect pool (like any other team would, but deeper than average). Konyushkov maybe? He looks extremely promising, but IDK if he will produce at the NHL level and don't feel educated enough to make a guess. I REALLY wonder what the established top 2 will look like in 2 years, when the compete window might start to actually open for us (IF the abnormal injury train on developing players finally stops for a minute; I mean it's getting ridiculous). Backster on the left I think, but do we have another top 2 in the system (outside of Hutson; he might play minutes like here and there, but not full time imho)? I guess it will depend on guys like Guhle and Mailloux to see if they exceed expectation, etc. I also feel that keeping a REAL vet somewhere in your top 6 is important, whether it's in the top pair or as a 7th or 8th guy, it's needed. Savard fits that role for us right now, and we should be in no rush to change that imho. About the goalie situation, we need a tandem 50/50 or 40/60 à la Boston (well, how they used to function), because NOBODY forgot how losing a single player would mean the end of the post season if he's called Price... We need a tandem that's almost equally good and paid longterm to reflect that (easily done long term for both of them, especially if they are our prospect like Fowler and Volokhin, both for less that what we paid Carey). Let's never do the same mistake again, especially not when the one guy you can't do without is injury prone... AND you can TWO guys who can give the team a chance). IMHO, after the last goalie heavy draft we got, we already have such a tandem in our system, it's just a waiting game to see who they will be. My money is on Fowler as I think he'll be an early bloomer (for a goalie I mean), supported by Monty; until guys like Yevgeni Volokhin (who I think will take more time to develop but be a solid tandem partner when ready in 2-3 years at least, replaces him. If there's demand and interesting offers for Allen before the TDL, let's do it! He's playing over his head right now and might be a good veteran backup for a playoff team. Or, he'll get injured like 8/10 of the roster like last year lol... I've learned a lot about Yevgeni Volokhin since the draft and do believe it was highway robbery to pick him so late. The guy is barely 18, already 6f3, about 160 pounds soaking wet (so DEFINITELY, definitely, not used yet to his growing body, etc.) , and he's already the bona fide MVP of the MHL lol :P It's a serious league where goalies get PUMMELED, so they rarely distinguish themselves there before getting to the KHL. Our man VOLO is having none of it lol :D I see him and Fowler as our tandem of the future. We also got Quentin Miller (drafted before Volokhin in fact I think? Crazy stuff), but I don't know enough about him to even have an opinion about a possible NHL career. I guess he's expected to perform, otherwise why would he be drafted? But eh; predicting goalie future development is basically witchcraft lol :P I won't even attempt an educated guess when it comes to Miller. Any of you guys know him better? Is he more like a trading chip or could actually get ahead? Finally, question of the forwards... If Dach can beat the injury bug, I feel he can be our 1b center. But we need something that isn't in our system : a first line PF and/or BIG physical elite center. We might get lucky and get a first line forward in the next draft (trade up to get a Demidov or something) But like Hughes said, he's getting the cap and trade capital ready when it will be time to "overpay" for a star player and sign a long term contract. Not something we need right now, but in 2 years onward, yes. I wonder which current franchise player will be targeted then. Not many BIG 1st line centers and/or PFs available at any point in time, as the most sought after type of players in the league eh. I'm glad we didn't go with PLD: in 2022-23, PLD had about the same production as Suzuki, while playing against lesser opponents each night and playing with actual (good) NHL caliber linemates (Suzuki had to make due with Laval players as linemates + 1c defensive duties, in addition to his duties as captain of a decimated team... PK PP you name it, Suzuki was one of the only remaining player that can hold his own in the top 9 at some point, seriously it was insane to see lol. PLD is bigger and faster than Nick, and yet I don't see him use his frame like he should, few second effort too, often lazy defensively, etc; all stuff which definitely wouldn't have worked in the kind of culture MTL is trying to establish. I DO hope he'll become the player he definitely CAN be in LA though, it's ALL within him! And with a first line shutdown specialist in Philip Danault, taking care of most of the opponents' offensive weapons (or has his role changed in LA? He used to be a Selke underdog his whole time in MTL; It's hard to believe that we got him for NOTHING; but then you have to remember that we also lost him for nothing; worst than nothing, since then wasted a 1st round draft for a mediocre replacement... I wish Bergevin would have left the house just before losing Philipp and doing that trade, but eh, he gave us a cup final and the last swan song of an old and tired team, so it's all good ;). PLD wiil NEED to hit the 80-90 pts + mark in 23-24 imho, otherwise, either LA got shafted in that trade and is now stuck with a player that will never gain in value, or the coaching staff issue is worst than we thought. It's a team that has most of the tools already, but I don't feel confident with how they are managed both on and off the ice. We''ll see.

Alexander Nikishin is a LONG lost breed of defender that can only be compared to a Hedman in terms of what he brings to the table. He very likely won’t ever reach Hedman’s level of dominance. But no other active defenseman brings high level Offense, Defense and Physicality. He’s going to be an absolute nightmare to play against every game.

I’m confused at how you can have Lucas Raymond below Nikishin when he hasn’t played in the nhl yet I would think we would need to see the offense translate to the nhl before putting him above a 70 point guy and future star

Levi being that low is wild he should be above Askarov its tough for a goalie to jump into a starter role on a team trying to contend so wouldn't be surprised to see him struggle for a year or 2 and then figure it out
Does thus guy hate the Red Wings? He disrespected Moritz Seider in the 2019 redraft and in this one he put Lucas Raymond below a guy who's never played an NHL game.

I remember you laughing your ass off when the Habs drafted Guhle and you said he was just not a good player… from right then on I knew you did not watch half of these guys play. Because you can't actually tell me he was a terrible 17 year old in one of the best junior leagues in the world he needed to work on a few things but he was 17 you act like these guys can't progress you need to learn how to watch guys and project skills he was big and mean and his defensive skills were good at 17 offensively he wasn't amazing but when you're a rookie in a league all you want to do is make the easy play and that something I don't think you realize most of the guys getting drafted are rookies in there respected junior leagues. You play a lot different when it's your first year in the league rather than your 3rd
