James Bond is the only brand ambassador that matters. He's done wonders for Omega.

For me one of the best brand and athlete combination as an ambassador is Roger Federer and Rolex. The fact that he is swiss, has an incredible reach even outside the sport of tennis, is a true gentleman on and off the court. Just a great combination and relationship that has lasted for years with many more to come!

You’re right. Federer is the tennis player people who know nothing about tennis have heard of and Rolex is the brand people who know nothing about horological have heard of. The only difference, I’m more likely to meet Federer than be able to purchase a steel sport Rolex at retail.

I bought an Invicta off Amazon that looks just like a submariner. I don't regret it at all. It was under a 100 bucks and I wore it daily for almost 6 months. It obviously didn't go up in value like a Rolex might, but all things considered that is a cheap 6 months of watch wearing on the way to something greater.

Have the black date sub, it's a classic and to me I like the simple black dial. Also significantly older which may make a difference. As not to be and old grumpster, own a few Nomos.

Personally I think it would be a mistake for Oris to go all in-house. To me they're a brand with so many interesting models between 1k - 2k. The in-house movement they have developed is unlikely to be seen in a watch less than 2.5k. Having said that...I do love the Big Crown Pointer date with the 403 calibre! Looked better than I expected in person as well.

Agreed, while I love Oris, I would not pay more than 1700 Euro for it and I think I am not alone with similar attitude.

I get where you’re coming from, but from a brand perspective, Oris could benefit from it by appearing more prestigious imo.

If the response to in-house movement is good, I don’t see why they can’t go fully in-house. They can surely develop a more accessible/affordable version of cal 400 and fit it into more affordable models which are sub 2k instead of selita - they have already proven that they have the capability to build great movements.

My point was they should go with a full in-house strategy - there’s a difference :) I would like to see Oris develop more affordable, accessible and thinner models going forward that can fit into it’s more affordable lineup. Anyways, I think it’s all hypothetical and matter of what we personally expect the brand to do

I would love to see a tier list, and I ignore brand ambassadors. As for the MoonSwatch, I bought 2 of them. I occasionally wear the Earth, and I gave the Neptune watch to my daughter. She loves her Neptune and wears it every day. She wears it with the dial facing in to protect the crystal from scratches.

Being a watch brand ambassador sounds bad for people who are into watches, I remember reading about Kate Winslett when she was prisoner of Longines, any other watches she liked, she couldn't wear. One day she saw a nice vintage watch in a shop window, she was relieved to see it was coincidently Longines and she was able to buy it, otherwise she would have missed out.

Can't wear while they are the brand ambassador but it doesn't mean they can't buy them and wear them once their brand representation contracts are over.

I just found Farer in the last few months and had to get their Stanhope 2 even though I don’t normally go for dress watches… since then they’ve released so many good looking watches I could make an entire collection just based on their designs!

I am relieved to hear someone else that doesn't care for the Nautilus. Like you, I understand it's significance in the industry, but even if I could have one, I wouldn't. There are literally 100's of other watches in the market that can be found at every price point that I would rather have. The A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia is a perfect example.

Perfect three wishes! I'm a big fan of Omega, but agree that the anniversary editions are a bit of a miss. The No Time to Die watch is brilliant; the new blue with the retro dial is OK, but I'm not running out to pick one up. The Jamaican dial version in canopus gold is a completely baffling miss.

Do you remember the old expansion bracelets that you didn't size, but they stretched to your wrist? Those were awful. But what if there was a steel bracelet with one stretchable link hidden under the clasp? Or two stretchable links on either side of the clasp for symmetry. It would have the durability of steel but the give of leather. Probably would need some kind of shielding from the skin so it doesn't pull hairs. Just a plate of steel over the expandable range on the half of the link that contacts the skin will do.

The Farer has a few others with the same cause just different color dials. I think four, maybe five options. I have the Stanhope II which sold out SO quickly they made more AND made other options, like the Mansfield.

I don't disagree though. I've preordered the Omega Bond 60th, but I really don't get where the bejeweled one fits. Like, if they released it as a separate watch, I think it'd be great, I just don't think it fits as a Bond watch at all.

I agree with you on the Nautilis… It’s not that I hate it, But if money is not a Consideration then it Would not even be in my top 10 within my personal watch collection. And that’s the watch collection that in total cost less than a single Nautilis.

Am from England. Farer is a well-appreciated and respected microbrand from England. Known to watch enthusiasts. They design their watches in London and manufacture in Switzerland. They launched in 2015 and about 50% of their sales come from the USA. Gorgeous designs and mechanical timepieces.

I got a Farer Mansfield. It's really great. Wears a bit large because of the case shape, but the lug-to-lug isn't bad so it depends on the wrist I guess. But the dial and overall design is just great, I'm super happy with it.

I think Oris is going for generational loyalty. Bond watches look fire. I appreciated the brutal honesty (Casio rules all!). I think seeing the bond watches in VR would help my thirst trap for awesome tech. 🍻

The thing with in-house movements is that they definitely strengthen the brand but the movements them selves are not necessarily better in some cases they are worse and always more difficult and expensive to have repaired or serviced. I love ETA and Sellita they are rock solid and very reliable.

James Bond, hands down. I have two Omegas, the last given as a retirement gift from my wife of 40-years. It's the James Bond edition from Specter and it's a great watch. My first is the Orange Dial Seamaster.

Rolex copies have a great interest to me. I received one as a (crappy) gift, one day, and I think its very useful to leave it at home, on a shelf, when I leave for vacations. If anything bad happens, I'm pretty sure basic burglars would take it as a real Rolex and won't look further ;)

Speaking of Lookalikes and Clones ... would you consider a Zenith Chronomaster Sport as one of the Rolex Daytona or the Rolex as one of the Zenith, coming from that it used their Movement for such a long time and now they just capitalize on the Shortage of Rolex.^^
