Sure certain 'Welfare Polices'( And Medicare/Medicaid in a form reparations for Black Americans might be not such a bad thing)can be helpful,but u don't want to incentify someone not to work,because it's been shown not to be too successful in the past!!.Just like if a person wins money gambling in some fashion, ' money found ( as the saying goes) they tend to be less prudent& more capricious as opposed to money which has been earned through hard work! And I dont agree when comparisons are made with Europe (Scandinavia,France,Holland and Germany come to mind) because those countries did'nt just arrive at those junctures over night,hey took hundreds of yrs to establish a certain mindset and Philosophy towards paying higher Taxes ( Something that Americans find hard to wrap their head around!) And on ' The White Saviour compex' the Dude who owned up to it with such pride,made me cringe! If u wish to be charitable,then do so with everyone& anyone,but directing it at Minorities is so 'Lets occupy the moral high ground' and f##king condescending to say the least!

My grandma was black, grew up in jim crow era America and not once did she ever blame white people for her problems or demand that someone help her financially. She was a tough, hard working single mother of 2. I find it insulting to say that black people need more help because of past atrocities, We're just like everyone else.

I'ts because either she didn't care for her community or isn't much a vocal person when it comes to these issues. either way, your ancestors cause havoc into our community and it got to a point where our culture is being poisened by powerful white people putting money into our music, movies and whatever and promoting BS.

What she said at the end is exactly right when you get this savior complex you put yourself on a pedestal above others... so if you're looking at black people as a group of people that need to be saved by you.... you're deciding that they're too ignorant or incompetent to choose for themselves as individuals not a group what's best for them... that's not getting rid of racism that's what fuels racism. And the ignorance and ego on that dude...... it's just wild how people can be blind to their own egotistical and/or narcissistic ways.

It makes sense. Like every multi billionaire is white and they have so much wealth that ignoring them by going from mean to mode salary drops it nationwide by several thousand dollars per year. One multi billionaire probably has more wealth than like all black americans combined, and then you have the others and then finally normal white people. I really would like to see the racial/gender numbers with them removed because those like 40 people have unfathomable wealth and only barely like poor whites more than poor blacks.

Ooh, i loved you pointing out that MLK was not a particularly good man. For some our society we have a tendency to talk about historical figures in absolutes. MLK said some good things, therefore we are supposed to treat everything he may have said as gospel. Columbus did some good things so some try to idolize him, whereas some terrible things were done to natives by his explorations therefore he was terrible. The Founding Fathers owned slaves so we must discount everything good they did. It is ridiculous. Good people make mistakes, it doesn't undo the good. Not so good people can still accomplish great things and it is ok to acknowledge the good and the bad. We can learn from both. I will say that when kids are younger it is probably better to accentuate the good more than the bad, but to ignore it completely can be as harmful as focusing too much on the bad.

On reparations, i feel like instead of giving black people, it should be invested more into inner-city schools and neighborhoods to provide better resources and opportunities. I think one thing the liberals glossed over is that funding of majority black communities starts at the state level and in a lot of liberal states, their policies do not end up helping black people at all. Johnny Harris did an op-ed on this for the NY times. People should give it a listen.

Off the top of my head, I think of funding for textbooks that are up to date, new computers, school renovations, etc. One thing i hated about BLM was that the amount of money they made didn't do any of those things. Another thing is that at certain city council meetings that focus on affordable housing are more often voted in favor of single family homes even though more affordable housing would probably alleviate the homelessness issues in places like California and NY, and these are liberals voting agaisnt this. I don't think flat out giving black people money will be beneficial, but utilizing money at the base level towards better resources will set the community on the right path. I'm a black non-conservative/non-liberal, so I don't have an extreme take on a topic like this, but in my experience, i don't know many black people that are active in their community council meetings to vote on issues that directly affect their communites, so it's also on black people to step up and not just the local governments.

@@DramaStar754just giving housing to the homeless doesn’t alleviate homelessness. They would need to go to rehab to get off drugs and/or get mental health treatment and/or get a job or enter some kind of job training that guarantees a job.
@DramaStar754
@DramaStar754 9 ай бұрын
@ca8944 I'm not saying just give housing to the homeless, I'm saying there are people who have full-time jobs that can't even afford housing there. If housing were more affordable, less homelessness would be a result. This may be a surprise, but not everyone that is homeless is like that because they're on drugs or mentally unwell. There are people that choose to live in tents because they can't keep up with the rising cost of living, so again, it starts at the base level of policy creation to solve these issues.

I wish I could show this video to all black leftists, because for a long time I’ve really struggled how to express to those people that ‘No I swear I’m not racist, but I don’t think what you’re expecting is fair, and there are plenty of other black people who are also of an opposite opinion to you; so how do you get to say “this is the correct opinion, otherwise you’re racist” and believe that only you hold the correct opinion, OVER other black people?

There’s more to the destruction of the nuclear family than the existence of welfare. I’m a single mom and I don’t qualify for government assistance. I am struggling financially and still make too much money. I could get a job that pays me less but that would mean a shitty apartment in a shitty neighborhood and that’s not what’s best for my daughter. For me, there’s no financial incentive to not have her father around. Actually, staying with her dad would have benefited me. I don’t want to say people are being lazy and choosing the welfare life but… idk. Maybe it’s something else.
@WakenerOne
@WakenerOne 9 ай бұрын
I briefly dated a woman who was on assistance. Every week, she would arrange that her hours at her job were reduced so as not to lose her benefits. I'm not saying that the hours would have made up for the assistance check, but the whole setup instilled in her the "this is my ceiling" mentality. I also had a supervisor at a 40-hour a week job that was definitely not stingy about offering overtime every weekend. This guy, a supervisor! had to make sure that he never got more than 35 hours or HIS benefits would have been cut. This was not a lazy man, either.

I'm very surprised that someone actually brought up the Irish slaved in north America. I have been able to document 2 people on my mother's side that were actual slaves (not indentured servants) in Virginia in the early 1700's. They escaped to the Carolina region. Their children went back up north and became officers in George Washington's army, fighting the British. After the war they moved back to the Carolina region and reunited with the parents (escaped Irish slaves). Do I get forty acres and a mule???

I agree with you. It does incentivize them to not do a whole lot. I’m telling you as a 44-year-old person who used welfare in my 20s. Of course they encourage you to go to work, help you with your résumé ,provide you with all the resources to go to school but they’re not gonna help you become a doctor or lawyer . They will train you to be a dental assistant, or a file clerk. But some of those really worthwhile trades you have to go pay for yourself. A parent doesn’t qualify if they admit the “non custodial parent” is still around helping them. There will be issues with the benefits if they reconcile and come back. Part of the application process is to file for child support and collect. Whatever you can from that absent parent.. so it’s definitely discouraging a two parent family home. Couples can apply together, but they’ve got to be completely broke both of them unemployed. They can’t even say they just barely got a job and haven’t got paid. They will count that. I think there’s nothing wrong with getting a little help when you’re down but it’s not set up in a way that makes clients feel comfortable about getting off. The policies are set up in a way that people are scared to get off or tell the truth about their family structure. It’s a lot more complex than that. I totally agree with the conservatives as a former sociology student and welfare recipient and someone who was going to go into the field of social work. from being on the program and working as an intern in the human resources office I changed my mind about going into that field. It’s not helping people. California here

My new kitten is so much more cuddly than my other cat, and it's been such a nice addition to our family to get to have cuddles with her every day. She and the older cat are getting along fairly well, but I think our older cat sometimes gets overwhelmed and stressed about the kitten being all up in her business all the time. She swipes at her sometimes, which I think is good, because it's teaching the little one where her boundaries are. Hopefully once the kitten gets a little older, she'll chill out a bit and not be quite as playful, and maybe the older cat will be less stressed. Kitten's getting spayed next week, so maybe that will help. I'm curious to see how our older cat reacts to the little one coming home all loopy from the surgery. Maybe she'll take her under her wing with her mama instincts and take care of her. All in all, taking in this stray kitten has been a really positive decision for our little family. I'm glad the cats have been able to get along well enough for us to be able to keep the kitten. Their names are Gallifrey and Melody, both named after Doctor Who characters, which is my and my husband's favorite show. So... what I'm saying, of course, is that clearly there is no meritocracy in this country.

"We're just having a discussion, nothing that's said in this conversation is gonna change the world" - I think that's a disclaimer that we all maybe need to say out loud when talking/debating about topics that we feel strongly about because they're personal to us? I think a reminder that no policies or laws are being made off the back of what speakers contribute might help keep emotional responses to one side and let reason come to the forefront. Otherwise, it's understandable why people freak out a bit when they hear their viewpoints being 'invalidated' (not that it was happening in the Jubilee vid when Amala said this, I just mean in general). Everyone should take a breath, step back, and remind themselves of the disclaimer. :)

In this country, for many years it was considered rude or poor form to discuss politics with company that might not share similar thoughts, and while this may be socially reasonable, democracy demands discussion. There was a time when perhaps reasonable people elected to political offices would have those discussion on the behalf of the public, but the drive for re-election amongst those people today has resulted in a rhetorical fight club that has drawn us all into their fights. It was largely nice to see a largely well-reasoned, reasonable and polite discussion. There needs to be a grass roots campaign to create just that, a reasoned and polite discussion of issues of the day where the American public, across party lines, leads elected officials and sets policy and agendas, not the other way around. If they are public servants, then the public needs to speak clearly as to what they want and how best they are served.

While I did desperately need it and could see the "reparations" side of it, I kept finding myself wondering what support white people in my same situation would have. We need support available for all people, not just select minorities, and especially not based on something so superficial as race.

Thanks @Amala Ekpunobi: Unapologetic for posting this video about affirmative action / supreme court. Here are the viewpoints expressed by Supreme Court justices regarding affirmative action. 1) This case is about a group called Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) who sued Harvard College and the University of North Carolina (UNC). They said that these schools were not fair in their admissions process because they were using race as a factor, which they believed was against the law. The law they referred to is the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment*. 2) The Equal Protection Clause is a part of the Fourteenth Amendment that says that every person should be treated equally by the law, no matter their race, color, or nationality. The SFFA believed that by considering race in admissions, Harvard and UNC were not treating all applicants equally. 3) The Court looked at the history of the Fourteenth Amendment and how it has been used in the past. They also looked at how other cases involving race and college admissions were handled. They found that while diversity in a student body can be a good thing, it must be handled in a way that treats all applicants fairly and equally. 4) The Court also looked at the idea of "strict scrutiny*". This is a way for the courts to look at laws to see if they are fair and necessary. If a law or policy is found to be unfair or unnecessary, it may not pass strict scrutiny and could be considered unconstitutional. 5) The Court found that the admissions systems at Harvard and UNC did not pass strict scrutiny. They said that the schools' use of race in admissions was not clear or specific enough, and it resulted in fewer admissions for certain racial groups. They also said that the schools' use of race in admissions seemed to stereotype certain racial groups, which is not allowed. 6) The Court also said that the schools' admissions systems did not have a clear end point. This means that there was no clear plan for when the schools would stop using race as a factor in admissions. This was another reason why the Court said the schools' admissions systems were not fair. 7) The Court decided that the admissions systems at Harvard and UNC were not fair and did not follow the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. They said that the schools' use of race in admissions was not clear, specific, or fair enough to be allowed. 8) However, the Court also said that schools can consider how race has affected an applicant's life. They can look at how an applicant's experiences with their race have shaped them and what they can bring to the school because of those experiences. 9) In the end, the Court decided that the admissions systems at Harvard and UNC were not fair and did not follow the law. They said that the schools' use of race in admissions was not allowed because it was not clear, specific, or fair enough. 10) So, the Court decided that the SFFA was right. They said that Harvard and UNC were not treating all applicants equally in their admissions process, which is against the law. They said that the schools needed to change their admissions systems to be fair to all applicants, no matter their race. *The Equal Protection Clause is a part of the Fourteenth Amendment that says that every person should be treated equally by the law, no matter their race, color, or nationality. *Strict scrutiny is a way for the courts to look at laws to see if they are fair and necessary. If a law or policy is found to be unfair or unnecessary, it may not pass strict scrutiny and could be considered unconstitutional.

On the topic of welfare in Hungary - yes, they do give huge variety of financial support for families, also a contribution for building a family house, even bigger for one in the countryside. However, it is often not enough, especially taking into account the current economic crisis that is hitting Hungary the hardest out of the countries in the region. I came back from Hungary to my country of origin a little over year ago, and most of the things were cheaper than in my home country, now - everything is on average 30% more expensive. And the Hungarians have always been earning poorly comapred to other countries in the EU. I’m no economist, and I’m sure there are a lot of factors at play, but my message is: Hungary’s policy on families may sound good in theory, but if you have the whole picture of the country , it is not a heaven for families, and a lot of Hungarians complain about the giving away so much money at random.

The argument that giving people free money doesnt cannot hurt them while entirely ignoring the fact that the very same tactic used to train animals was used for years and continues today to be used as a way to remove the traditional family roles from homes, and in the past especially it was targeting predominately black areas across America. The idea that if i have $1000 and i give you $600 of my money but inturn you have to maintain the status of a single mother. Thats the same form of conditioning that is used to train a Dog in obedience Schools. If they want a treat or a toy they have to obey and do as instructed then as a postive reinforcement they are given a treat or a toy and if they go off and do their own thing they loose treat privilege or toys.
