IMO this is the most "BABYMETAL" BABYMETAL song. It's their whole vibe in condensed form. Being in the same room when Su belts this out live is one helluva experience. Also, for the most part, you don't really need to read the lyrics for their songs, but this one's an exception. Go find a translation, it's really quite poetic.

My favorite Babymetal song, both lyrically and musically. I really love the way they pay respect to the women who have come before them and to their Japanese heritage. At the same time they show, visually and musically, that they aren't going to be bound by these restraints and are going to create their own path. Matt, I love your enthusiasm, it is infectious. Nice one, thanks! Now you know why "Megitsune"is an absolute fan favorite. And yes this music video is a masterpiece. The photography, scenography, the "guest" dancers, the filming locations... About that - The stage where they are performing is called Nohgakudo at Asagaya Shinmei-gu Shrine in Tokyo. This is a stage where music and dances are performed during festivals. - The shrine right before the breakdown with the orange-ish torii gates is the Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto. Both became obvious pilgrimage destinations for BABYMETAL fans. Until next time!

The song that got me into Babymetal all those years ago.... Luring you in with that cute edm, dance music.... Then slaying you with that pig squeal, japanese inspired nightmare of a breakdown. Yui and Moa were 13, almost 14 when this video was released. Even though they were wearing white robes, this was not the Kami Band. The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group. Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown. Thanks for reacting to this one. Megitsune is my jam. It's still my favorite BABYMETAL song, video and choreography. Definitely quintessential BABYMETAL and their most Japanese song. You could even call this Kawaii Festival Metal. BABYMETAL's producer Koba sent this song back to the song arranger Yuyoyuppe dozens of times before he was satisfied with it. This one consistently tops fan polls, and has been performed live more than any other BABYMETAL song. Much of the video was shot on location on a Noh drama stage by the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become something of a pilgrimmage site for BABYMETAL fans.

Is such a good song, my favorite of theirs, so brilliantly combining traditional sounds, those taico drums and shamisen with a modern heavy metal sound, and that breakdown just hits so hard, while at other points in the song Su's singing is lively and beautiful during the breakdown her rendition of the traditional "Sakura sakura" song is haunting, almost ghostly, like a spirit form the ancient past (of course the MV is heavy with imagery of temples, ghosts, fox spirits and the like.)

Good one - this video is so good - and yes this song regularly tops fan polls for favourite song. Megitsune (the G is a hard G) is pronounced something like Meh - gits - oo - neh. Kitsune means fox, megitsune is a female fox or vixen. You may want to wind the video back to where Su said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). You completely missed what she did as she said it.

Ah yes the Queen Su's death glare. And I love that at 5:26 and 5:29 you see Moa slipping and sliding around and it looks like she may have wiped out at 5:29. She did say the halls were really slippery in the video where the girls commentated on this video a couple years later. It was super cute hearing Yui and Moa sing along quietly to their parts again. and Su saying how "badass" her mic was. I love this song. I love this video. I love this band like no other. 🤘🦊🤘

There's a story about Babymetal and Metallica performing at a festival in Korea. Someone from Metallica saw somebody wearing an "And Justice for Babymetal" T-Shirt. (I think it was Kirk Hammett) He saw Babymetal and immediately brought them over to meet the rest of the band. Su noticed how nice the guys from Metallica were, but when they performed they were angry and harsh. This, in part, made Su see how she could be somebody totally different from Suzuka Nakamoto when performing. Thus was born the Death Stare of Su-Metal. Fun reaction. Thanks for posting. Kitsune up!
