This entire debut album is a must listen. Very underrated band, most likely because of just how effin awesome music was back in the early 90's.

This song is about the life and death of the singer for the band Mother Love Bone, Andrew Wood. He and the singer for Candlebox were friends. Members of Mother Love Bone recruited Eddie Vedder on vocals after Andy's death and became Pearl Jam.

One of the bands of the Seattle grunge era that did not get its due.
@franzwohlgemuth200212 күн бұрын
The song is not about a relationship, despite what many believe. It's about the lead vocalist of Mother Love Bone, Andy Wood. Candlebox frontman Kevin Martin stated in 1994, "I wrote 'Far Behind' for Andy Wood. I was a huge Malfunkshun fan and a huge Mother Love Bone fan and I got to know Andy early on in his career when I was working in a shoe store with Susan Silver who was managing Mother Love Bone, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains." It's about the loss of a friend from drugs.

As someone else pointed out, this song is about Andrew Wood. Originally, the lyrics were, "Andy, I didn't mean to treat you bad".

One of my all time favorites, It reminds me of me and my pals gathering under the cover (covered only from the top) of a parking lot, and we'd play random rock music and when this one popped out, we were all singing it, even though none of us knew english well, but we didi what we could, we loved this song, and with a couple of beers in, who wouldn't have the courage to sing it out loud even though no one really knew the Lyrics? Now I know english and reminiscing, those memories really put a smile on my face anytime at any given day, now we barely see each other having little or no time left and each of us with our families it gets really difficult to just gather, but that's life, anyway... thanks guys, this was a great pick! Always enjoy youth and your friends at its maximum, they're a real gift and memories become a treasure you'll always be able to enjoy.

They didn’t like to be called grunge, they’re a rock band. They’re still rocking, Kevin still has his voice, I saw them last year with 3 Doors Down. Check out their cover of Loverboy’s Turn Me Loose from a couple of years ago, they nailed it. The video is done pandemic style, with each musician in their own home studio.

I was living in the North west Washington when this came out and I did everything I could to convince my friends they were NOT grunge. They were just a really great bluesy rock band. Even more so than Pearl Jam. Kevins voice is angelic. Everyone in this band was incredible. Only Post Hair metal band I listened to in the early 90s. Anyway, I was in a cover band for awhile and I hated doing "grunge" songs but to keep people happy, i insisted on switching out a few Candlebox songs in the set just to keep the kids happy. However, this song was one that was always in the set

I agree that none of the Seattle bands were grunge they were just heavy/hard rock, I know I was there in the late 80's when most of the bands formed so I got to see firsthand their evolutions and they all started out playing hard rock and mostly late 70's British metal. All I have to say is thank god I'm a great BS'er because I was a teen back in the 80's and looked 12yrs old but still managed to get into most of the bars that all of those bands played in 😜😜😜😜

One of the MANY songs about one of the only true rock stars that most will never know about. If you don't know who Andrew Wood was.... go ding out. The earth shattering pivot that occurred in the musical landscape after his death is one one of the most incredible what may have been compared to what we got... Andy left us all far behind.

True. For the scene in Seattle, what happened afterwards. Digging into the lyrics, if it doesn't serve as warning and a fortelling of the loss caused from drug use, especially heroin, I don't know what else does. Even after it came out look who died later that was afflicted by addiction.
