this is the isle of man tt (tourist trophy) also known as the deadliest race in the world (the isle of man is a beautiful small island between wales and south ireland). this is a timed race, its 37miles long and all you have to do is come in with the fastest time. since its 1907 inception over 247 racers and fans have died, averaging 2 deaths per year. speeds are in excess of 160mph. practice starts in the last week of may and the races are in the first week of june. races are held, not on a track, but on country roads with buildings, trees and stone walls just feet away. one slip can result in total disaster. more to come

The fastest lap (37miles) of an AVERAGE of 135.4 mph by Peter Hickman. EACH RACE HAS 6 LAPS thats over 222miles a race! Brick or Flint walls or trees and houses, kerbstones or manhole covers, all part of it. If you look at the last part, the bike is actually catching the helicopter! Not only do Riders die but sometimes the public too, sitting right on the edge of the road.

I don't remember who it was but I read an interview with a racer after he retired from racing and he was walking the course remembering different parts of it from his races. There was one particular spot where he remembered he would always feel his helmet brush the leaves from the bushes on the inside of the turn, turns out it wasn't bushes but ivy covering a stone wall. Really the only way to do this race is practice enough so you memorize the track, at those speeds you have to be setting up for the next several miles in advance.

When you see the bikes out on that wild country road, that section is called "The Mountain." At that point the bikes actually OUTRUN the helicopter taking the aerial shots. The chopper has a max speed of 180mph and the suoerbikes now top out st OVER 200mph!!! I believe the correct way to describe this event is MAD BONKERS MENTAL!

This race is not sanctioned by the AMA, or any major motorcycle racing sanctions. They fought for years to keep racing safe. With safety barriers and other safety issues. This race is just for bragging rights/prestige. Insane, and awesome! One mistake going by those rock walls/houses, and it's over. There are several "Dark" videos, of lives being ended abruptly in this race.

When you see the video with the HUD showing 180 mph, I believe that’s Cameron Donald’s lap video with added commentary later. But he’s riding a 650cc bike in that. The bigger 1,000cc class bikes go even faster with quite a few riders getting over 200 mph on some straights.

By the way at 17:09 in the video , you are watching him at over 150mph pulling into the corner on one wheel ... The high speed speed wobble was with Guy Martin . near the middle of the video you will see Joey Dunlop who has won the TT 26 times , Michael Dunlop who has won 25 times actually lives on the Island , he's the rider you see with a flag in his hand coming in on his bike . Oh in answer to your question about women in the race, In 1962, Beryl Swain raced as the first woman and yes woman can enter .... Oh and at 136.58mph average speed Peter Hickman holds the record .. I've had two friends go to the TT and I can assure you of this ( Virtual Reality does nothing compared to this , the speed of these guy's going by you will pull you forward and you can actually feel the after heat of them leaving you ) ... These are 1 liter bikes turned up to 12 . Yes they have smaller displacement categories, but your watching full on 1 liter power in this video ...

I saw this interview of one of these racers once describing how he learned the "track" and what his reference points were. He always leaned into the same spot at one of those corners and let the bush on the inside of the corner brush his helmet. That's how he knew he hit that corner right. Many years later when he walked the track and looked closer at that bush it turned out it wasn't a bush. It was a stone wall covered in ivy. And he'd been brushing his helmet against that at 160+ mph for more than a decade! About women competing as far as I know this sport is not segregated like that. If women want to compete they would be more than welcome to. There is even some research suggesting that mentally women would be better at racing than men and some women have been at the forefront of major motorsports. Strength does play a part in any sport though and motorsport is no exception so that might be a limiting factor. Then again most of the riders in the TT are not full time racers. Most pro bike racers are contractually disallowed to do this event because there's a big chance they wont make it to the next race which will hurt their team and sponsors. It's a hobby for them. As a result they may not be the highly trained athletes the riders and drivers in higher levels of motorsports are. They're truck drivers and mechanics. I'm sure they work out, but most of them are people with regular jobs the rest of the year. If there was any motorsport a woman could do extremely well in I think it'd be this race.

I’ve been to the TT and nothing prepares you for the experience, not only the speed as they go by but the bikers who attend the main town Douglas is taken over and bikes are lined up side by side for miles three and for rows deep.

6:41 Not a death wobble. He was coming off a jump. Death wobbles usually happen whilst riding arrow straight and are rare if you have good front suspension dampers. Think of it as a sound frequency relating to vibration etc. If it hits the sweet spot, or sour in these cases it's akin to an opera singer hitting a perfect resonance and breaking a glass. Scary AF the first time you experience it but similar to aquaplaning in a car, dont panic. Ride it out.

There are female racers in pro motorcycle racing, but they are a relative rarity. Full speed race bikes put a lot of g forces thru the body, so the level of athleticism is higher than you'd expect. There is now a female only motorcycle race series in the US utilising Royal Enfield motorcycles to boost representation and provide a pathway to professional careers

@@jefforymitchell5697 I think that was more true back in the 2 stroke era of GP racing, where in the 125 & 250cc support classes the technique was about super high corner speed. German Katja Poesngen did well in 250s. The 4 stroke era is characterised by point & squirt - super hard braking deep into corners, turn hard, get bike upright and fire it out. It is the braking that is the physical thing. Someone described stopping at the end of the 180mph+ Jerez straight in Spain for the 40mph right handed as doing a push up with a 50kg/120lb person sitting on your shoulders. In a race weekend you do that turn 100 times or more at full effort

Speed wobble for a light one, tank slapper for a bad one because the clip ons can literally slap your gas tank, I once had one so hard on my 1994 YZF750 the fork lifted up a few mm to where it sat in the front wheel.

Not only women compete here, we sometimes let colonials enter,, even Americans.😉The 1911 TT was won by a guy riding a US brand of bike (Indian). The only US winner that springs to mind is Mark Miller, who won the single lap electric TT about ten years ago, None of the other races are single lap, they're either 4 or 6 laps depending on engine size & class. Of the 7 races during TT week, 2 of them are for sidecars, 3 wheeled 2 man projectiles, that look a bit like mutant bobsleighs.
