This song's lyrics were inspired by Robert Johnson's song Terraplane Blues. A Terraplane was the name of a model of car and the lyrics liken a woman's body to the parts of a car. I'm not sure what instruments specifically you're hearing, but Jimmy played all the guitar parts with a couple of rare exceptions. He would play lead, rhythm, solo, and any other flourishes, like the bits that drift in and out in this song, then overdub them all together with the vocals and other instruments. This is why I often say Zep songs are crafted - everything had to fit like a puzzle. In your day-to-day, do relisten to every song and you'll notice more and more layers to the sound.

The instrument you were searching for is a Clavinet, some sort of keyboard. Their bass player, John Paul Jones plays it while simultaneously playing bass with his feet. He goes crazy with this if you watch that song live. I would recommend this performance kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnipeoeiatJ5rNU And while there's a bass and the clavinet, at least in the studio version, Jimmy Page plays along and als overdubs with a guitar, so you have two guitars plus bass and clavinet.

I'd agree with this video recommendation, the best live version out there by quite a way. There's another video running over the studio version produced by the BBC for the programme Old Grey Whistle Test (OGWT) which consists of a montage of black and white movie clips, iconic for the time when Led Zep wouldn't appear on TV. (Incidentally I'm sure that OGWT video has a clip of Ginger Rodgers from before she was part of Fred and Ginger.

@@leonardsimonis2376 it is, and he was/ is amazing, but I agree with Leonard in that every church organist plays bass foot pedals. Heck, my grandma did as well. And so many people remark on JPJ doing that as if it made him a magician or something. Fabulous musician, but playing bass pedals is not uncommon and being able to do so is considered part of being an decent organ player.

Now imagine being 13 years old and hearing this for the first time in 1975. Imagine listing to this at 16 with headphones on after doing a couple of bong hits. Yes, when it comes to music. Those of us that grew up in the 70’s were lucky. The good news is. You can still listen to this stuff. Physical Graffiti was one of the first albums my daughter bought for her new turntable.

"Gun down on my gasoline!" After just one hearing, you probably don't recognize that lyric from this funk-ass Zeppelin masterclass in groove, but there it is. So cool to see you "driven" to love this! On one of the many Zeppelin bootlegs out there (I think it may be the one called "Badgeholders") you can hear Robert Plant introducing the song by saying something like: "This is basically a song about a motor car, but it's really just more about...*moving parts!*" You can almost feel Plant winking there, nodding to the fact that his witty lyrics are really not so much "talkin' 'bout love," but about LUST, lol! Raunchy Zeppelin metal at its best! And you're right: You MUST see the live version! Awesome footage of ALL members doin their thang as only they can.

Absolutely Salvo you’ve got to treat yourself to Trampled Under Foot Live at Earls Court 1975 it’s simply amazing. Shows in no uncertain terms why they are the GOAT!!! I would say since you’re taking a break before we go to side 3 you would also really love In my Time of Dying Live from Earls Court ( I prefer night 2 but both are fire) & the song that Robert calls quintessential Zeppelin….Kashmir…Live at Knebworth ‘79 or when they are much older & Jason Bonham is on drums at O2 Arena in 2007 Celebration Day. You won’t remember but right around day 2 of your Zeppelin reactions I had told you that the Zeppelin song you are listening to is your favorite until you hear the next one….because , well , that’s Zeppelin!!! Lovin’ your reactions. Have a good one. Peace ☮️.

Fire. And then.....Kashmir. When you play Kashmir live, there are two exceptional live tracks: Knebworth, 1979 (near the end of Led Zeppelin), and 28 years later, with Jason Bonham on drums, at the O2 Arena Reunion in 2007. 2007's version may be their greatest live take on this song.... certainly it was their most emotional.

Jimmy Page was one of the leading Session Guitarists in the 1960s, contributing to numerous Hit Singles with a wide variety of Artists. This extensive experience in the Studio helped Jimmy become not only one of the greatest guitarists who ever lived, but also an absolute WIZARD in the recording studios, PRODUCING the post-production sequences and layering it all together with OVERDUBS. Page the Producer is what sets Led Zeppelin head and shoulders ABOVE EVERYONE ELSE!

The song/lyrics were inspired by blues musician Robert Johnson's 1936 song "Terraplane Blues". A Terraplane is a classic car, and the song uses car parts as metaphors for sex-"pump your gas", "rev all night", etc. The themes of these songs however differ; "Terraplane Blues" is about infidelity, while "Trampled Under Foot" is about giving in to sexual temptation. And I feel so lonesome, you hear me when I moan And I feel so lonesome, you hear me when I moan Who been drivin' my Terraplane for you since I been gone? I'd said I flash your lights, mama, you horn won't even blow Somebody's been runnin' my batteries down on this machine I even flash my lights, mama, this horn won't even blow Got a short in this connection, hoo well, babe, it's way down below I'm goin' heist your hood, mama, I'm bound to check your oil I'm goin' heist your hood, mama, mmm, I'm bound to check your oil I got a woman that I'm lovin', way down in Arkansas Now, you know the coils ain't even buzzin', little generator won't get the spark Motor's in a bad condition, you gotta have these batteries charged But I'm cryin', please, please don't do me wrong Who been drivin' my Terraplane now for you since I been gone? Mr. highway man, please don't block the road Please, please don't block the road 'Cause she's reachin' a cold one hundred and I'm booked and I got to go Mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm You, you hear me weep and moan Who been drivin' my Terraplane now for you since I been gone? I'm gon' get down in this connection, keep on tanglin' with your wires I'm gon' get down in this connection, oh well, keep on tanglin' with these wires And when I mash down on your little starter, then your sparkplug will give me fire

Second time I was in the audience when they filmed the concert scene for The Song Remains the Same movie. It was SO amazing. I loved them then & now at almost 70. Their music/songs were so different then any other band at the time & we were all blown away. Sigh... I miss those days....

Everyday the latest LZ reaction becomes his favorite....tomorrow you will have another favorite Salvo...one of my favorite songs by LZ in this album and actually in their entire catalog is probably their softest Bron Yr Aur which you will soon hear....there are layers of guitars on most of LZ songs because in the studio you can overdub one guitar on top of each other, like Jimmy can do the rhythm guitar work in the studio but he can't be playing the solo at the same time so he will record the rhythm lets say and then he can add other guitar colors to the song and the guitar solo on top of it if he wishes, so obviously when he plays live since he is the only guitarist he can't do all those parts at the same time

Back then you never heard much about Zep except in rock mags. They didn't do a lot of press which led to the mystique that surrounded them. We had to see them live to see if they were real or not. And if Plant sounded the same as he did on albums. And he did. Never understood how their ears held up tho. They were incredibly loud.

Song was actually inspired when the drummer was actually chased by the police to the studio and when he eventually made it inside he couldn’t stop talking bout the car he’d just bought. You can look it up. What you were hearing at the end was JPJ playing a bass line effect and electric piano simultaneously like Manzarek with The Doors Hope this helped.

From probably my favorite overall LZ album....as pictured on your screen. That's John Paul Jones on the keyboards you're hearing....and his bass dubbed over.......and then Jimmy Page double-tracking two different guitar parts....he did that quite a bit and was very good at engineering it. Although they can't really do that live, they managed to make it sound great, anyway!
