One tip:. Country Joe Mcdonald meets Los Jaivas in 1970, during filmation of the movie "Que hacer", in Chile. Then Los Jaivas was an experimental age searching they own sound, by improvisations . This era finish in 1971 when they published "El Volantín" álbum.

Por ejemplo en la batería a Gabriel Parra lo reemplaza su hija Juanita Parra, quien mantiene la virtuosodad del padre. Yes. Another commenter said they are celebrating sixty years and the only other band that I thought might be close was The Rolling Stones. That's a long time. I'll try to get to more of Los Jaivas music but there are so many requests from other parts of the world. It will be soon though.

The images in a clip, aren't Woodstock. The movie is a " Piedra Roja" (Red Stone) pop festival in Chile , 1970. The "Chilean Woodstock" músic hippie convention. They was play there with another chilean bands. The TV show performance was in 1972.

Their first serious attemp was something similar at the sound of Santana, and someone told them that a musician called Santana was doing that kind of music, and then them change to somethin more southamerican andino and others rithm not so afroamerican. Their first album "El Volantin" (the comet), was produced by Country Joe McDonald if i not mistaken.

Hola Hernán . Estás en un error. El primer álbum "El Volantín" de 1971 no fue producido por Country Joe McDonald. Ellos lo conocieron el año 1970 durante la filmación de la película "Que Hacer" en el periodo de elecciones presidenciales en Chile. Pero su primer álbum ,como todos los posteriores , fue autogestionado por ellos mismos. De hecho, tuvieron que vender un órgano Yamaha para poder pagar la producción en el naciente sello IRT, en Santiago. Lo de la supuesta influencia de Santana, es solo un mito. Ellos desde 1968 hasta 1971, apagan la radio y se encierran para no escuchar a nadie, buscando su propio sonido y estilo mediante improvisaciones ,rompiendo con todos los cánones de la época. Si lograron un sonido similar fue el resultado de un trabajo paralelo.

@@JohnCregoWorldMusic Hi John. They haven't influence by Santana and nobody else. From 1968 to 1971 they "shut off the radio" and began to search their own sound by improvisations. In 1971 they published the first album called "El Volantín" (The Paper Comet) . One year before Los Jaivas meets Country Joe Mcdonald in Chile .
