It's both exactly as expected and nothing as expected. It couldn't be anyone, but Nightwish. Also, Tuomas is a hell of a composer and I can't wait for the new album to be released in September.

It is indeed Troy singing at the end. Yes, it is reminiscent of The Greatest Show On Earth. That's because the Yesterwynde album is the 3rd in the trilogy of albums, along with Endless Forms Most Beautiful (which includes TGSOE) and Human:II:Nature, with the themes of life, science, nature, and evolution, etc. Video is more like a mini movie than a music video. Seen this 5 ,6 dozen times, and still finding details. Think there are supposed to be 2 more videos before the album releases on the 20th of Sep. More Troy singing? He sang lead on "Harvest" from the Human Nature album. Don't know yet if he has any lead vocals on the new album.

Troy also sang lead in the Decades tour Buenos Aires concert: The Carpenter. I'm not sure you (Dom) will like it as I know you like the heavier stuff and The Carpenter isn't all that metal, but I think you'd appreciate the instrumental stuff and Troy and Floor's voices blend beautifully when they harmonise in the chorus. Its quite different for Nightwish, the first single they ever released. There is also a studio video with Tuomas (yes, he sang in a bit of the earlier stuff) and Tarja on vocals. Might not be your cup of tea, but I think you'd find it interesting.

My Aunt...my moms sister....went on a two year journey, researching the members of our heritage. She ended up with a 1000 or more pages of our ancestors.... Going back to the early 1600's in the USA, and even more from her research in Ireland. Seems my mother's "Sir name", is stil around....and it allowed her get even more information from some of the churches. A little note...as some have said that Floors voice blends in with the choir members singing. I saw where Tuomas said it was on purpose.

"Half the year has vanished into thin air" how appropriate is that observation in the context of this song? I love this song and find the way it's presented to us, in this form, to be a fantastic work of art. So glad you did this right after The Greatest Show on Earth as it underscores the continuity, the flow of Tuomas' and the band's vision. I think that being able to place this work into the context of being part of a trilogy, while not strictly necessary, enhances the understanding and the enjoyment of it. On a side note, so glad that for once I caught one of your NW reactions right as it came out (on lunch break - glad I wasn't swallowing a bite of my sandwich when you noted "uber eats for animals", I truly laughed out loud). Troy and Tuomas pronounce it with a long "I" like your first pronunciation and as Troy made up the word, he should know! The free diving is from another source, a video that is a free driver's own from his own site. Tuomas of course, is obsessed with oceans and they turn up in many, many songs. Troy singing today is thanks to Floor’s coaxing him to sing a few years ago. ( maybe some coaching too) From what I seem to remember her saying was that Troy needed some stimulating by Floor to sing as he didn’t think his voice was good enough. Seems she was right.

This music and video is epic experience. I’m glad you liked it. Oceans are mystical origin of something, full of wonders, but I can understand the fear of the dark unknown and the feeling of not being safe. My favorite part of this song and the video is when Floor spreads her arms and kind of like leading the birds formation, but the second favorite is diver among the whales. I hope that part was not giving you, any bad vibes, Dom, because at least I find that part very soothing 🙂 …However, at least the scene with a little fish in a drop and the Troy’s soft voice came to rescue you.

Nightwish dont dissapoint "did you feel the ghost energy song" I listened to this song many many times by now, and it is one i like to listen to with my headphones or without, its really a good song, when i can do so to me. Some say Floors voice is low in the mix, and i can agree its hard to get all words she sing, but if you look at it soundwise it sounds amazing!! and after a listen or 2, you know most of lyrics, and its no problem at all, its done fully on purpose for the sound experince of it, and like shes part of the ancestor choir.. cant wait for rest of album!! Yesterwynde is the opening track on new album, i belive its only like a intro, its a little over 2 min long, #2 on album then is a almost 10 min song, thats proberly another epic!! #3 is where i think they bring in a heavy track, and this Perfume of the timeless is #5.. so i think its gonna be a good mix of heavy songs, Epics, and maybe a full balled.. Incredible song by the greatest composer of my lifetime, with only one error. Two to the twelfth power is 4096 (not 4094). Yeah, I'm a geek, and a technical guy, so I know binary and the powers of two. I started writing a poem ... "4094, never less never more" and then I realized the error. I love how each member of the band makes an appearance in the video. Also, being an old fart, the theme resonates with me. I'm the only child of an only child, and my child is an only child who does not wish to have a child, so my line of 4096 ends with him. Not a fun fact to face when you can see the end of the tunnel. If you cannot see the beauty in this song, at least Tuomas can slap you in the face with your reality and make you realize that we are here for a blink of time ... make the most of it! If we start counting from the first generation (your parents) and don’t include the individual themselves and their partner, the number would be 2^12 - 2, which equals 4094. So, you could say that you have 4094 ancestors over 12 generations, assuming no overlap in your family tree. This is just another way to look at it, depending on whether or not you count the individual and their partner as ‘ancestors’.

Am I the only person who can not stand Troy's tuneless droning? Floor could easily have sung that end piece, but no, it just had to be Troy. No wonder Marko left after Human Nature was completed. He could obviously see the direction the share of vocal duties was taking.

You must be one of the few that doesn't like Troy's singing. A rather strange take on the reason for Marko leaving as well. You can't have looked up the background to his departure. Bands, like football teams, change but they are still your band/team, it's part of their evolution.

When I first heard this I was a bit disappointed at the repetitiveness of the chorus. But have come to think maybe it is an intentional representation of the repetitiveness of generation after generation after generation.

Love Nightwish but there’s something not clicking with me on this one, sound wise somehow off even uncomfortable. Had that on the last album with Procession but loved the rest of the album so hope that will be the case here also. Do love the sentiment and the drrumming
