I'm sure some of it is laziness, but they're probably worried about legal consequences. Their followers are less likely to face consequences, because the followers can just say they went off of the edited video, while the person who did the editing knows the context, so it would be easier to prove malice in a defamation case, and if there was a full ethics investigation, possible trouble with the government for deception in the official complaint.

I got such a letter from the Mass. Board of Bar Overseers for something opposing counsel on a loan workout filed. It was baseless but it ate me up inside. Consulted with a very experienced and expensive Boston lawyer who read the letter, laughed and then told me I’d lost my professional virginity. The matter was dropped after I responded thoroughly.
