The Wizard's Mark, Son of War Daughter of Chaos, and the Girl Who Heard Demons by Janette Rallison are all great clean fantasy books that I think you would love. I think that they are all on Kindle unlimited as well.

I gasped when I saw Daughter of the Pirate King in the thumbnail! I read it at the start of the year and really enjoyed it!! Agreed that it was surface level, simple, but fun! I did read the second book and enjoyed it just as much maybe even more. The plot was definitely more complex than the first and a little darker.

I have two fantasy recommendations for you that I read this year that you might enjoy, and they are both clean. One is Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson. Sanderson is known for his epic fantasies but this one was a book he originally wrote for his wife who loves the Princess Bride, so it’s inspired by that and it made me laugh so many times. It was not complicated, and it’s more adventurous and not very much about the romance, although there is a romance involved. And the narrator cracked me up by breaking the fourth wall and talking to the reader often. So if you like that sort of thing, I highly recommend it. Also, Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater, which is a regency style fairy romance and fantasy. I know you said you’re not really into fairy fantasy but this one is completely different from the usual. In my opinion, it was so beautifully written. I don’t like fairy romantasies either and I was so moved by this book. It had some beautiful autism spectrum representation through the way the main character was portrayed. And the romance is lovely. Here is a quote from Half a Soul that I just love: “There is such a thing as evil in this world. It does not help to look away from it. It does not even help necessarily to look at it. But sometimes, when you cannot force the world to come to its senses, you must settle only for wiping away some of the small evils in front of you.” “I have known many human beings with a full soul to their name who do not have half so much compassion or practicality as you.

Of course! I find the fantasy genre to be very hit or miss and have very few that I actually like, so when I find good, clean ones, I love to share. I just discovered Half a Soul is part of a trilogy and the third one is a romance between two women, so that was disappointing, but aside from one mention of two girls dancing together, Half a Soul didn’t have anything lgbtq.

I recommend She Walks in Power by MaryLu Tyndall. It’s a Christian fantasy about a girl who can see into the spirit realm. It also has a really great romance in it! 😉

Good call on dnfing one dark window. I actually read both books in that series, and while I enjoyed it during my reading, I felt weird and dark afterwards. It also does have spice later on, although I’m not sure if it was in both books or just the second one, but definitely don’t recommend for my fellow christian readers.

I really enjoyed A Wizards Guide to Defensive Baking. It was so cozy and fun 😁 I have a very hard time picking up any new YA or adult fantasy. There is almost always spice and/ or excessive language or violence. I usually check goodread tags before picking something up or try to look up the spice level online. Recently I have enjoyed the 3 Kate Stradling books I’ve read. The most recent being Deathmark. Another one I read recently was Stolen Midsummer Bride by Tara Grayce definitely insta love but it was a great pallet cleanser with a cute romance in a fantasy world. I hope you keep trying fantasy here and there, it’s my favorite genre and I enjoy your videos and recommendations.

Happy early birthday, 0ceana! May the Lord continue to grow and fill you in the year ahead!! I haven't commented in a long time but, have enjoyed much of your content and have actually read many of your recommendations. Rachel Fordham and Katherine Center come quickly to mind. I was also moved by Katy G's Dangerous Beauty. My husband has been facing some health problems of late and so on Monday it will be nice to be thinking of you as well as his doctor visits. Thank you, as always, for your efforts and the time you take to do quality research. Your prayers for my husband are much appreciated, if you can invest the time. Please keep your honesty and sweet smile coming, dear girl.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on A Song of Thieves by Jacqlin Guernsey and On Wings of Ash and Dust by Brittany Wang!! They are apparently both clean/no spice fantasy books, and I think they are both secular indie published.

I was just thinking about suggesting some romantic fantasy to you but I wasn't sure if it was your genre. You might like the Glamourist Histories series which starts with Shades of Milk and Honey. If I'm remembering correctly Half a Life and Ten Thousand Stitches might also be low or no spice but it's been years so I might be misremembering.

What a bummer that These Twisted Bonds wasn't as good. I read Daughter of the Pirate King either last year or the year before and enjoyed it. I did read the second book as well, but I don't think I liked it as much as the first and I haven't gone one to read the 3rd one.
