Video idea from the short story coincidence in the video: treating a short story collection as tbr prompts for a vlog. It could be a series and a way to prioritize short story collections that don't easily fit into other videos.

while i really enjoyed Model Home, i can see why it didnt work for you. i do think its just gonna come down to personal preference for people, and also some people going in expecting a more traditional haunted house book. i think for me as someone who reads mainly litfic and not a lot of horror, the writing style was what kept me reading and then i enjoyed unpacking the different layers of it. this was also my first time reading their work, so i'm intrigued to see if i will like their older stuff more or less!

The way you talked about Model Home is exactly how I felt about The Reformatory! I thought that book was going to be an all-time favorite for me, the writing was absolutely stellar, but it was the horrors of real life and although it's important to know about, I wanted more speculation. I wanted to enjoy the reading experience and I just didn't. I was so bummed but I keep recommending it to others anyway.

I had the same thoughts re Model Home. I did go into the book expecting it to be a more traditional horror story due to the cover vibes, so... that definitely impacted my reading experience. And about the things happening with children: I wouldn't have asked for an ARC if I had known about that in advance since it's something I try to avoid in the books I pick up--and I didn't like how it was used as a "twist" :/

Books aren't for messages, books are art and If The Book is badly written it's badly written 🤷♀️
@theotherveronicaАй бұрын
ehhh idk about this. sometimes the art is the message. physical art also very often contains a message. books have been used as social commentary for eons. but i think you just mean a book can be bad and still have a good message. and i think it’s fair to acknowledge both of those things in a review and not feel bad about fairly critiquing bad writing.
