This is basically Rocky 1. It's obvious that Ali had 2000% more natural skill than this guy, even though Ali trained minimally for this fight. The outcome was never in doubt. It was a miracle that Wepner hung on as long as he did, surviving on grit alone. Kudos!

Total hype by the announcer. The "knockout" punch was more a slap on the back. And it was pretty obvious that Ali simply lost his balance. Probably because Wepner either stepped on his foot or tripped him.

Ali fell in the 9th because Chuck stood on Ali’s foot causing him to trip, and fall…the punch wasn’t the reason Ali fell! In the instant replay…they leave out both they’re feet…if you look at the real 9th round replay, it clearly shows Chuck standing on Ali’s feet…9th round was a trip and fall.

Ali was/still is and will always be one of the people I most look up to as an example of integrity and principle, as well as the most exciting boxing champion of all time.

@@EminiMagic Man, Foreman is my favorite heavyweight of all time (with Tyson). How i forgot to mention him? Yes Foreman was a tougher opposition than Wepner just because in the 3rd round, he hir Mohammed Ali in the body with 4 or 5 hard punches that hurt Ali and an uppercut in the 7 round that dizzy Ali a bit (Ali said that after in interview). But the fight was a total missed by Foreman. He said that he was so confident that he would knock out Ali. He just charged him without thinking. I'm sure that in a rematch (circa 1976, 1977, Foreman would have TKO Ali).

Too many of Ali's fights in the latter half of his career were dull exhibition bouts with Ali clowning around, carrying his opponents, with his opponents only too glad to play along for an easy paycheck. This wasn't one of them. Wepner came to fight, and in doing so brought the best out of Ali. Ali hadn't looked this good for a long, long time, which was a complement to Wepner, Ali couldn't shuffle his way through this fight, Wepner forced Ali to fight. Almost got his head taken off in doing so, but he made his mark in boxing history.
