In this podcast, J Stephen Roberts and Scott Amis are joined by Dr. Andrew Buck to discuss the Principality of Antioch, the Crusader state founded by Bohemond and Tancred during the First Crusade. We look at Bohemond's founding, Tancred's subsequent buildup of the principality, the disaster of the Battle of the Field of Blood, and the conquests of Saladin in the 1180's.

+Real Crusades History Ever considered making a video of the Albigensian Crusader Simon of Montfort? I know I've asked this before but he has always been a favorite of mine. Love the podcast by the way, especially since it is a longer video which I consider a tremendous bonus.

An interesting, nuanced discussion on a subject that can too easily be characterised in all-too-broad terms.

Ah Bohemond and the Guiscard....slaves to no men, subject to none of the world. Bohemond, as great and capable as he may have been, was in it to win it. I don't think the Crusade was a "spiritual" endeavour to him. He's described by everyone as absolutely stunning but there are no stories of him even being involved with a woman until his late 40s-50s, when he met Constance of France. That's how intense his drive for success and wealth was...I find this very interesting. That he waited so late to have children, when his career and the times didn't guarantee a long life.
