I'm a Software Professional. I'm following a motto, "Sincere to the work, not to the business company". Because we are focused on our work, that helps the business/company to build something they cant. If the businesses/company interferes us in our career path with their plans like, taking advantage from us, avoiding/disgusting us, etc.., then talk immediately and express our attitude. There are many teams around the world with ethics & good culture, where we get appreciation & motivation for our work. Always try to do our work without expecting rewards. And always try to upgrade our existing skills & acquire new skills in our profession.

If a company has made up their mind to let you go, there is nothing in fighting for your job. They left you! So accept it and move forward. Love your skills, dont love your company. Company can you just let you go and leave you.. your skills won't. Being on bench for 9 months shows that you are not required. So professionally you should have seen it coming.

The brave lady was enjoying the bench for 7 months when thousands of her fellow employees were working hard at low wages to pay her salary. She is not a fresher, rather she is enjoying a fat salary at 8 years experience. Of course all HRs in IT companies should be terminated as well because they do not serve any purpose. A capable HR would have interacted with her within 2 months of unallocation and given her a warning, then followed up with warnings after every 2 months. Their mistake was that they never intervened before and straightaway went to the last step of termination.

Can't blame the HRs here fully - the girl is on the bench for seven months and denying most of the opportunity and probably is playing the women card as well and is expecting a placement where everything fits the bill according to her whims. Ideally the staffing consultant has to arrange atleast 2-3 client interviews in those 6-7 months for the employee. If clients dont select her and if she in unwilling to relocate ( written proof of such communication ) they then should warn her that this can lead to a termination. H.R sees this often so they should be proactive to avoid bad blood. Put them in a performance improvement plan or encourage them to succeed in internal client interviews to get on a project. On other hand if projects are hard to come by many employees proactively look for employment in other companies. If you have 8-9 years experience the cost to company is high and you are on the chopping block if benched. Once on the bench economics take over and logic has little place. When things get bad like this employees have all to lose and H.R has none. You can blame the system and maybe the employee is right too but in the end you are the one holding the can.

I have 1.5 years of experience in manual testing. 8 years in manual testing is not good. She should have moved to PO or upgraded her to automation. If someone is in manual testing for more than 2 years they themselves have degraded themselves such people slack off in office time and are least productive. It becomes difficult too when you want to change your profile. I know the work I do can be done by a 12th pass student but still i get same salary as a developer. I have recently started learning automation as it has a very good scope. Manual testing will die in next 5-10 years. It's better to upskill yourself before such time comes.

Layoffs do happen, and it's part of working for a company/under someone, but this is absolutely not the way of handling it. Just say you do not have enough opportunities in the area of individual expertise and you have to downsize, that's all.

Why is it obnoxious..? She is hired to deliver bad news and she is just doing her job..also.. This is a place of business not charity. Imagine you own a company and cost cutting burden comes to you, what you would do.. take the company in bankruptcy and make 1000 people loose the job or lay off certain employees. Selection of certain employees can be based on factors other than performance, which is not the question but again, you will have to let some folks go. On top of that labor laws are in hands of govt, check the labor laws which gave employers authority to hire and fire.. what has changed in labor laws etc.. @@poorvibharadwaj337 I know it might not look justified and I can see where you are coming from! Fact of the matter is, even HR doesn't enjoy laying off someone. It is the ugliest part of their job. But, companies are there to make profit. Believe me, I have seen Indian politics even here in the US. Anyways, about being logical.. there is never a valid reason for laying someone off, all companies brush it up with same jargon.... "cost cutting", "performance" bla bla... the way it works is that higher management decides a percentage number.. let's say 10% from each team.. now it is up to the team manager to give names.. so... even if you are literally working day and night and you are not in good books of manager (May be performance or may be team dynamics or it could be anything) then your name can be given.. Like I said, "performance" metric is a big BS, which HR gives while laying off.
