Mick, I could honestly listen to you talk about the business for hours and always feel like I am learning something new. You provide a unique voice that isn't watered down at all. You acknowledge the indie scene, and willingly provide your insight to what you notice during matches that people not in the business may have a more difficult time differentiating between sell and reality. Your passion bleeds from you like your blood did during many of your classic bouts. Speaking toward the topic (I am no wrestling writer, though a former commentator) its frustrating to see CM Punk depart. His injuries appeared to be worsening from what I could see, but as a professional, he played through the pain better than most, which many fans may not appreciate only because they couldn't tell the extent of his pain. The creative direction seemed a bit...flighty (to be kind) but that could be stated about the writing process in general. As a fan, I've been frustrated at how stories have manifested quickly and faded just as fast. There seems to be no room in the business anymore for a lengthy build, and the lone build that got the treatment was based around a rivalry that the fans have seen for close to a decade. Orton and Cena is a classic rivalry, but in an era with so many fresh faces, shouldn't we be talking about a new era of true main event superstars, instead of rehashing and reusing the mainstays of yesterday? Maybe that's an unfair assessment, since both are still in their prime, but some weeks, its been comparable to watching writers block on television. Specifically, it's like watching a terrific wordsmith like Stephen King, who has a mind that morphs anything into a story, with unique characters and stories, have writers block on the air, and ignore all the great personalities he's crafted over the past few years. Hopefully you can reach out to CM Punk, and their words offer some feelings of reconsideration. If not, we at least have some wonderful WWE CM Punk memories that I'll carry with me as a fan for the rest of my life. I also hope you continue to make videos. You have a subscriber in me, and I'm sure your future topics will continue to not only interest me, but also entertain me. Mick, you've always had a natural talent entertaining people, and connect with them in a way that's very difficult to master. You, along with Chris Jericho, continue to inspire me to become a better spokesman and entertainer, and I thank you for that. Looking forward to future videos, Mark (coverkillernation)

ric ancira I totally agree! the thing is with wwe is they have so much talent in their young superstar's yet none of them will get pushed. looking back 40 years we saw plenty of young wrestlers being pushed, triple h, Chris Jericho, undertaker, Shawn Michaels. now we have the likes of the shield, Wyatt family, Daniel Bryan, sheamus, dolph ziggler, Kofi, drew McIntyre, wade Barrett, and much more. they wont get pushed, they will eventually get bored and leave. I don't watch wwe anymore due to this reason and many others such as the storyline is repetitive and boring. they focus more on one title, it feels like they don't care about the other titles anymore. complete disrespect to the fans that devote themselves to the company. and lastly they ruined ECW, ecw is still my favourite wrestling company and always will be, I remember playing a ecw ps1 game that I still have! They brought their own style, they put on some of the greatest matches I have ever seen, they cared for the hardcore fans, they had the best wrestlers I have seen by the likes of sabu, tommy dreamer, mikey whipwreck, the dudleys, Justin credible, super crazy, sandman, terry funk, and many more, but my all time favourite wrestler is Mick Foley.

It's a pity that Punk quit but as i understood from his last interviews he was exhausted. He needs a big break to heal, to rest, to find again that passion he had for the business. And we all know what Punk wanted. His biggest dream is to be in the main event of WM. He was frustrated that 3 years in a row, he couldn't be in the main event because of part time wrestlers that suddenly return. The Rock and Batista. Tho i think that last year Punk should have been for sure in the main event, this year not so much. Bryan is so over and it was his year by far. After Punk lost to the Undertaker at mania he was never the same.

I agree with Mick - the skies SHOULD have been the limit for CM Punk in WWE. BUT - the current entity known as WWE is NO LONGER A PRO-WRESTLING COMPANY. They are a television show that pretends to offer pro-wrestling, but instead offers no-name Hollywood writers who know NOTHING about pro-wrestling - and more importantly, are NOT even fans of pro-wrestling - trying to operate as if it was another "(fill in the blank generic tv show)", with 'guest hosts' from the latest flavor-of-the-week movie or reality show. If said writer churns out yet another bad gimmick or angle, oh well, he writes another one(usually just as bad). On the other hand, for the athlete who finally 'made it to the top', that same bad gimmick could be the death knell to his entire career. The FACT that the WWE is a lost cause can be summed up in one simple piece of information - the current VP of Talent Relations, a job once held by 'good ol' JR' Jim Ross(a man who has done EVERYTHING in the business, from setting up the ring to hiring Stone Cold Steve Austin!), is now held by a woman who came from the LPGA... LADIES FUCKING PROFESSIONAL GOLF!! I applaud your decision CM Punk. You truly tried to make the WWE better, but most of all, thru everything, you stuck to being YOU.

This is what counts. An opinion from someone who has lived the life and been in the profession. It's all well and good for fans to give an opinion but honestly, a lot of people are slating Punk for walking but we don't understand the toll the work has on their bodies. They travel on the road 24/7 and put their bodies at risk nightly and when you're very talented and you just get shit on, you cannot take any more and let's be honest...If we were in Punks shoes, we would have probably done the same thing. More thoughts on current WWE decisions, please! I loved your tweets during the Rumble. The fact that so many in the audience agreed with you while WWE clearly didn't know what was going to happen (as evidenced by Batista's reaction to the crowd after his win) i'd say you have a lot to offer the wrestling biz.
@JokersRWildStudios11 жыл бұрын
The last straw was probably the no-talent assclown Batista winning the Royal Rumble 4 years after walking out on the company...but his buddy Triple H essentially brings him back despite being a part-timer. Everyone knows that The Rock and Brock Lesnar are on a bigger stratosphere than Botchtista. And Lesnar never even had a title shot. Punk's been held back on the mic for about 2 years now (after 6 months of gold in 2011 when he had free reign). Sure he held the title for over a year, but half of that was as a "weak" cowardly heel that featured the Shield as his lackeys. To me, the only time it would've been appropriate to make a killer tag team, would have been if Punk was teamed with Paul Heyman AND Brock Lesnar. But they blew that too. So now he's resorted to fighting the Shield while Daniel Bryan fights the Wyatt Family. (2 clown mid-card stables...aside from Roman Reigns...who's on the cusp of being a star) I don't blame him for quitting. This isn't like Stone Cold facing legends like Ric Flair and Big Show back in 2002 when he left. This is MIDCARD JABRONI talent Punk has to face. Granted, the talent pool is very weak but he shouldn't have to face clowns like those. If he never wrestles again, he'll add his name to the list of this group of wrestlers: Kurt Angle, Randy Savage, Ultimate Warrior. Guys who were at one point on top of the world and pretty much tossed into garbage overnight without any real reason (except for Warrior being a egomaniacally stooge).

Love ya, Mick. Mick Foley fan...4...life. (does nWo hand gestures) But seriously. Mick is right. Punk just hasn't been the same at all these last few months. The fire and enthusiasm that he had in 2011 when his popularity exploded and all through 2012 through early 2013 is not there. He doesn't seem happy. Hell! He seems miserable. And no, I don't think it has as much to do with him not main-eventing Wrestlemania or him being "ungrateful" and "selfish" as many fans are speculating. I legitimately think he's exhausted mentally and physically. He did a Q&A at Wizard World recently which gave us a good indication at where he mentally at right now. He said that what he used to do is actually discuss sometimes even argue with the creative team on certain angles. He would fight for a better angle or to improve on the product. Now what he does and I quote: "I arrive, do as I'm told, and then leave". Another fan asked him if he ever thought about acting and he responded with "I do it every Monday, man. I act like I want to be there". That answer blew my mind. Folks, I hate to say this but I think it finally happened. I think the WWE machine finally broke Punk. I never thought I would ever see that happen ever and it's sad. Last year wasn't a good year for Punk either from a booking or creative standpoint. He lost his three biggest feuds (twice to Dwayne, once to Lesnar, and once to Undertaker). What happened after his feud with Lesnar? He feuded with guys like Ryberg and Curtis Axel who aren't even on his level yet as part of the dragged out feud with Paul Heyman. Then he feuded with the Shield and lost to all three members. I'm sure Punk doesn't mind putting young people over. I'm sure he knows that Ambrose, Rollins, and Reigns are going to be huge stars and are the future. If he truly was selfish he wouldn't have put them over and he sure as hell would not be 100% in support of Daniel Bryan being in the Wrestlemania main-event. But it seemed like Punk was just going with the motions now. His passion is gone. His fire is extinguished. He has had enough of the booking, the management's inability to listen to the fans, the creative process, the young guys always having to take a backseat to the "favorites", the politics, HHH always hooking up his homies WCW-style, and Daniel Bryan constantly being held back. He realized that as long as Cena is around and HHH is around, he won't be ALLOWED to go any higher than he already has. Punk needs to regroup, heal up, and find himself. He needs to regain his passion. Like I said earlier, the WWE machine has finally broken Punk.

Thanks for posting this, Mick. Question: By putting part time guys in the WM main events, do you think WWE fosters a "Why should I work full time?" mentality from it's full time stars like Punk? What I mean by that is it seems the best way for Punk to headline Mania would for him to come back for a part time run in a year or two. Where's the motivation for a guy the level of CM Punk to stay on the full time roster?

I really enjoy hearing about your perspective on this situation, both on Facebook, and now on KZbin. I, and I'm sure many others, would love to see you make more videos like this. Your two cents is always appreciated. You are THE Hardcore Legend.
@busheytube11 жыл бұрын
I think a huge part of the reason why some wrestlers quit and come back is because it's harder to deal with crappy writers taking your career in a sh*tty direction if you're simultaneously spending every waking moment of every day in pain from injuries that WWE never allowed you to let heal because they run their talent ragged. Some companies have Mental Health Days. I think WWE should strongly consider Mental Health Months where a wrestler can take a month off (at least) per year to heal up. It would help assuage bitterness and would allow the company to keep their talent healthier for a longer time.
@SileX8411 жыл бұрын
in my opinion, 1 month per year is not enough. 3 months should be enough for every wrestler. WWE has a pretty large roster and they can afford to give to the big stars some time off every year. Think about all the traveling. I go home 2 times a year. I drive till the airport like 300 km, i fly 2000 km, and drive again from the airport to my home another 250 km . And i am exhausted after only one day of traveling. And i wake up early. Now think about these men and women doing that like 4-5 times a week, 300 days every year. And you also need to wrestle and find time to go to a gym. But i think the traveling is the worst part of being a wrestler. 1 because it's exhausting and 2 because you are away from your family.

Perhaps Punk walking out will teach Vince, Hunter, the booking team, and the creative team, to get their shit together. And on the other hand, perhaps I'll become a millionaire tonight. Somehow, I don't think Hunter and Vince will be able to pull their heads and their buddies and the part-timers' dicks out of their asses... IMO, there were only two reasons worth watching WWE anymore... One just walked out, and the other is being buried and treated like complete shit. WWE seems to have become WCW v3.0 (With TNA being v2.0), with all these damned part-timers and Hunter's buddies being pushed hard, while the people who will actually still be there in the years to come, the people who can actually wrestle, and the people who can actually cut a good promo are being constantly buried and/or misused. Here's hoping Jarrett's new wrestling promotion will be able to get on air and be as awesome as TNA was before Dixie took over... Maybe then, WWE will have some actual competition, which give Hunter and Vince an actual reason to try. Competition creates better products... The Attitude Era is a damn good example of that. ANYWAYS, back to the topic of Punk... If he still wants to wrestle... I believe he should go back to RoH, or go to Jarrett's promotion. Perhaps they'll actually treat him right. And on that subject, I believe everybody else who's getting buried and misused, such as Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler, should tell Vince and Hunter to fuck off, and leave, as well...

So I'm sitting here watching this right here at Mick Foley's channel, KZbin, the internet! *does the signature cheap pop look around with a smile* Foley's (video) is Good. I guess to get a poke in, now the WWE can bring CP Munk up out of the Indies. Chikara made that character after CM Punk no-showed one of their events and then he wasn't apologetic about it. I didn't stick around long enough after Punk started wrestling in WWE to have much of an opinion either way about him. I was barely hanging on to watching them at that point and it sounds like it was a good time to let it go. I'm still a fan of wrestling, but not of WWE, which has stagnated in its spot as the preeminent wrestling promotion. Despite that, I found that I'm still a fan of wrestling and I can't ever completely separate myself from keeping an ear to the ground on it. WWE seems to care too much about big men with muscles, and they don't care as much for anyone who made it on their own outside the WWE and then came to them. A wrestler like Mankind wouldn't have a shot today, and they don't use acquired indie talent to the extent that they could as seen by Punk, Bryan, and El Generico. I don't know enough about Chris Hero or Claudio Castagnoli's careers to determine that about them, unfortunately. I think they've gotten to the point where they believe far more in their ability to direct the affections of the fans instead of allowing the fans to help influence the direction of things. It's a balancing act, so I'm not saying it should only be what the fans decide, but it seems that they aren't getting what they want, which doesn't bode well in the age of the smark. TNA, though, seems to care much more about keeping the old guys paid. Since it doesn't even have the finances of WWE, then that would be even worse for someone who wasn't big in the 70s and/or 80s. I'd love to see Punk stop in when Chikara rises from the ashes, but I doubt that'll happen. Still plenty of places to wrestle, though. Mr. Foley, if you bother at all to read your comments on here, I'm glad to hear your opinion of things. I hope to hear more. You were the reason I wanted to be a wrestler growing up, even though my interest withered until I stopped watching altogether around the time ECW became a brand. I hope you do more of these and have a nice day.

CM Punk vs Triple H has been done and it was pipebomb galore. Some of the best mic work between those two men in 2011. He also dropped a few on Steph, Nash, even Vince back then. They can't duplicate that and to know that nothing in WWE has changed since then. Batista headlining Mania over a much more popular Bryan. Over a Bryan who sold and will sell more merchandise than Batista, a guy who all fans stand up and cheer for, they're not doing that for Batista. Why? We go back to 2011 when Punk says WWE has warped mentality on what a main eventer should look like. I understand about looks drawing attention, but that's what's wrong with society. We have to look a certain way. Always being judged by appearence and WWE isn't helping.

You get the feeling Punk feels entitled to be a superstar, for no real reason, other than he views himself as a superstar. Well alot of people view themselves that way, but not everyone is cut out to be a superstar, that's just how it is. He should be happy he made it as big as he has, he's one of the most unlikely superstars to ever come into the wrestling world. People work just as hard as he does, and they don't make it to the top. He should be happy he did, and not whine because he can't be on top all the time. Again, for a guy like him to come in and rise to the top is a complete fluke, nobody truly believes he's the best in the world, except him. Thank the fans for getting behind you, and the WWE for giving you the push, because frankly, you don't belong at the top, no matter how much you think you do. If it wasn't for the fans getting behind you, you'd be a midcard player at best. So thank them, and thank the WWE for giving you the shot, instead of whining about not being at the top all the time. You're not the best in the world...now might be the time to face that finally.

For a Guy Like CENA to come in and rise to the Top is a complete Fluke. Nobody believes HE'S the best in the world, and nobody believes he's Superman, and Wrestlers/Performers like CM Punk and Daniel Bryan work Harder than Cena, and they manage to Draw a Better reaction from the Crowd every week than Cena does EVEN as a Heel, and if you read all the comments online, Punk and Bryan get Far more Respect from Wrestling fans than Cena, Orton, and Batista. CM Punk and Bryan Perform at least 1 New Wrestling move in that ring EVERY Week, and have a Wide Variety of Moves in thier Arsenal while Cena uses the same 4-5 Simple Moves Every single week and never changes up his style and if you listen to the crowd every week, THEY ARE CLEARLY Sick of it!!! CM Punk making it to the top (Behind Fake Phony John Cena of course)... Is not a Fluke. It's Hard work, Determination, Talent, Athleticism, and Charisma! John Cena is a Fluke. He's all Showmanship.

Well look. I've been a wrestling fan since I was 5 years old. I know people who've been in the wrestling world, and wrestlers who have worked with huge names like Andre the Giant, or Hulk Hogan. I've read the wrestling books, and all that stuff alright. I think I know wrestling pretty well, I was a fan of wrestling when nobody watched wrestling. I'll admit I haven't followed it as closely in recent years, I think the change to WWE was the turning point where wrestling started going downhill, but I still keep aware of what's going on that world. And I've come to the conclusion that, CM Punk is only a star, for the very fact that there are so few real stars in wrestling these days. Again, if this had been the Attitude Era, Punk would be a mid card player at best. He just doesn't have the presence that says, wow this guy is a superstar. That being said, he's made himself a superstar by selling the image as the underdog who demands respect and recognition. His Pipe Bombs are his greatest asset, his mind is his greatest asset. That's what I see when I look at Punk, someone who's very sharp and will speak his truth to power in a way where people go, wow I admire that, I admire his guts and his intelligence and his honesty. I love how he sticks it to the power, I love how he ''drops the Pipe Bomb on people'', that's what people love about him, and he does that better than anyone else. What makes Punk stand out his is drive and his will to be the best, and to demand that people see him the way he sees himself. He does it in such a way that people start believing him. What makes him stand out is his passion and desire, and he puts it out there every night, I'll give him that. He puts 110% of himself in the ring every night, you rarely ever see a guy who puts so much of himself and channels so much passion into his performances.

These are the things which make him popular, and if the fans like him, then he gets all the credit for winning them over. That's ultimately what it's about in the end, winning them over, and if he finds a way to do that, well he deserves his success. But for me, personally, as a life long wrestling fan, he just doesn't fit the mold of what I'd consider to be a true superstar. He's just missing too many elements, he doesn't have the look, he doesn't have the body, he doesn't have the charisma, he's actually not that charismatic. His mind is his most charismatic asset, but as far as just personal presence and dynamism, he doesn't have that. Not to the degree at least, that warrants him being a true superstar, the face of the WWE. But they've had a vacuum of talent for a long time now, and the cream of that crop rose to the top I guess. But now with Punk gone, the draw power in that company is reaching new lows. I understand Punk's position, I also understand the WWE's position, if bringing in guys like Taker and Batista for Wrestlemania would make them draw more money, they need to do that, even if it means bumping off regulars who work there all year round but can't pull in those type of crowds and money. Sadly, and I predicted this long ago, the WWE glory days are over, and it will be a slow and steady downhill slide into oblivion. There's too much focus on entertainment, and the mystique of wrestling is gone now because of so much behind the scenes knowledge, and you'll never get that back. You'll never get that mystique back, which is part of what made wrestling so intriguing for people. Now everyone knows it's a work, and you can't change that, the mystery is over. Plus people are more geared now towards reality, and the fantasy of wrestling just doesn't appeal as much to people anymore. And sadly I don't see that changing, once Vince is gone, that company will go down the tubes fast, and there's no reason to think that won't happen. WWE and wrestling in generals days are numbered, I don't see it lasting another 10 or 15 years. It's a sad thing, it was a great spectacle at one point, but everything has a life span. You;re born, you grow, you reach a peak, then you decline and eventually die. And wrestling is now in that ladder stage of decline, and it's death is not too far down the road. It's unfortunate, but that's how life is.

CM Punk should have thrown out the storylines that had him mocking Jerry Lawler and Paul Bearer. He probably wasn't involved in writing those scripts, but he should be embarrassed for being involved in them.

It was takers idea, him and Vince personally flew and talked to Bearer's family before doing the promo. Stop talking and do a little more research

I can understand why Punk quit WWE. They are making no progress towards the future. There are loads of great young wrestlers in WWE right now but they are still dwelling on old warn out stars like The Rock, Batista, Triple H, Orton. Even Lesnar is a step back not forward. The worst thing that WWE has done in years is having Batista throw out Raynes in the Rumble. They should be pushing Superstars like Raynes, Zigler, Bryan, Bray Wyatt, Ambrose and Sheamus not burying them. They have no creative imagination.

Punk left the business because he's getting old, not only that but because he didn't like the way the business is going kind of like stone cold or the rock or Shawn Michaels. And for people that think he's "overrated" I'll name some "overrated superstars" The Rock, Stone Cold, Daniel Bryan, John Cena. Their not overrated just fan favorites. Punk was not only a great mic worker, crowd hyper or a amazing heel or face, but a great wrestler. Who can forget money in the bank 2011 all of what I just said is expressed in that match and leading up too it. The original pipe bomb, great heel, off the chart mic worker and a great wrestler. His rivalry with the undertaker was sure better than this year with Brock, honestly punk should've won. Off the chart rivalries with Jeff Hardy, Chris Jericho, John Cena, The Rock and the undertaker. Stop hating on the best

Kevin Mitch Punk has been working matches in ROH and the Indy scene for years not to mention he takes more risks than Cena because Cena is garbage CM punk is a very good all around wrestler there are other wrestling company's you know that right? CM Punk paid his dues to make it to the top unlike Cena learn your facts CM has way more wrestling years and damage on his body than Cena and he still was a 1000x better than cena week to week

Foley is Good(cant say God sorry Mick) as I hate to see Punk go WWeeeee was using him all wrong. Pun getting beat up by the Shield or the Wyatts weekly was getting old. WWE need Bryan vs Punk or Punk vs Lesner or many other great match ups with individual shield members. I am a fan of TNA but I just don't see a good fit of Punk down here. He is head and shoulders above most of the competition. He would have some good matches with Aries, Styles and possibly Angle and but those would get old after awhile. Dixie would just ruin him quick. Punk get some rest. Enjoy the fruits of your labor. Enjoy some of the money you made. You said at one point you wanted to catch up on The Walking Dead series well here is your chance. Your fans will miss you but good luck in your future.

One of my favorite things online is steve austins podcast stuff. Where he gets people in the industry past and present and takes fan questions too but its a really awesome thing to hear your honest and truthful opinions on things. For example, him and lawler were talking about how kamala was started and how he thought lawler was painting a banana on his stomach for like a year before he asked jerry why and he said its a crescent moon lol. That was cool too hear. You even wrestled him back in the day I think. It'd be incredible to hear some cool stories or upsets or sides of the business and the situations from what the public couldn't see on tv. In your dvd I loved hearin those stories about terry funk and the ring crew stuff. Hope to hear more from you sir foley. Long time fan and keep being suave daddy-o! Lol

I don't agree with WWE confiscating signs...but I also dislike fans chanting for CM Punk when the guy took his ball & went home. I really hope Triple H addresses this situation on Raw & BURIES CM Punk. WWE didn't want CM Punk to leave. CM Punk chose to leave. CM Punk gave WWE no notice & screwed fans who paid money to seen him by not fulfilling his obligations to appear at future events. Who does CM Punk think he is thinking he is above a match with Triple H? so Triple H is a good enough opponent for The Undertaker (on 3 occasions) but he isn't for CM Punk...give me a break. CM Punk was nothing but a cog in the wheel, with delusions of grandeur. CM Punk is also a hypocrite who complained about part timers yet pushed for match with Stone Cold Steve Austin for years. Last but certainly not least who was CM Punk trying to kid pretending to want Daniel Bryan to be the main event WM XXX? he wanted that spot & when he didn't get it he lost his smile. CM Punk isn't main eventing WM XXX & he's got nobody but himself to blame for his shortcomings...skinny MMA wannabe needs to hit the weights. The fact is CM Punk was a mark for believing that he could change the perception of what WWE managements believes should be a top guy. In WWE SIZE MATTERS like it or not - it's always been a big man territory & it always will. You fans can moan all you want but Vince McMahon & Triple H are not going to change their philosophy on the business to please stereotypical smarks - & if you think they will then you're a mark. Stereotypical smarks might win a few battles but ultimately will lose the war.

Great video, Mick Foley, I appreciate that you have come out here to give all the fans a professional opinion from someone who has worked in the WWE. CM Punk is honestly one of my favorite wrestlers, and has been since his rivalry with Jeff Hardy all those years ago. I hate to see him leave and I hope he will return, but if he does, I want him to be healthy and happy. If he choses not to, I can't complain, he gave us several great years of wrestling, and there will never be another like him. I hope you will continue to make these types of videos. Sometimes it is a good thing to break the fourth wall and gain some insight into the sport we all love so much. Thanks.
