The late King Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia was a famous cook. This week, Chef Christian Bauer visits Princess Norodom Buppha Devi and re-invents the King’s favourite dessert - a banana and peanut butter cake. Will his version prove just as sweet as the kingly treat?
From Elizabeth II to Cleopatra, Real Royalty peels back the curtain to give a glimpse into the lives of some of the most influential families in the world, with new full length documentaries posted every week covering the monarchies of today and all throughout history.

Cambodia is on my bucket list of fascinating places to travel to! I love the culture, the beautiful people, food and artistry this country! The chef, Christian Bauer is adorable! I wish there were more of these episodes, and wish they were longer!

This chef is wonderful with people. Because of this video and the very sweet and kind royal family, I want to learn more about Cambodia’s royal family. I hope that there is a KZbin channel or TV series on the history of the Cambodia royal family. Enough about the evils committed by the Khemer Rouge, there is a deep rich history to unfold long before that terrible episode that should not define Cambodia and it’s beautiful people. Thank you!

I agree with you. Everyone thinks of Pol Pot when Cambodia is mentioned. The history of the Khmer Empire and Angkor Wat is fascinating, for example. Unfortunately, like the Rwandan genocide, the Khmer Rouge regime belongs to the relatively recent past and still looms large, like a malevolent shadow.

Lana Lee - Thank you so much! I cannot even begin to imagine what your family has been through. I am just so grateful that so many Cambodians escaped and made the arduous journey to our country. On a happier note, please tell your mother and father, “Chom Reap Sour”.

I am amazed by the story of the Princess Buppha Devi! I had never heard her story before and it is so amazing that she brought a beautiful part of Cambodian culture back to life. Someday I hope to visit Cambodia and I will certainly have to watch the ballet. The traditional dishes looked way better than what he made to be honest.

The people of Cambodia are strong and have survived so much . They are a beautiful people with a strength many admire . Mrs. Kennedy spoke fluent French and would have been a wonderful guest . The chef is sweet and spicy a fabulous gentleman and talent. Love these episodes he filmed.

Wow looks amazing I love Amok. The last time I had it was in New York City first Avenue and it was amazing but they just announced this gems will be closed due to Covid-19 so sad. 🙁

It's interesting that Amok is the first dish that comes to a foreigner's mind when they think about Khmer cuisine but it's my family's least favorite. It's definitely dying out and tends to be popular only amongst elders.

While that's true, having the capability of treating international leaders and delegations like honored and respectable guests and not like enemies can be important in negotiating yourself into a more beneficial position.
