I love everything about this Country Bhutan! I have been there three times. The people are so humble and polite, they all actually look happy and content in life. All the major small towns including the capital city Thimpu is maintained so clean. What a beautiful country 👌👌 . Will soon plan my 4th trip to Bhutan 😊 Long live your King and it's Gross National Happiness 👍👍 Much love from Sikkim ❤️❤️

I am never ashamed to call myself a Bhutanese no matter which part of the world I live. I always count it as my biggest blessing to be born in such a paradise like Bhutan where even if a subject is down with flu, the king will come with medicines. If your job gets laid off, the king will give you salary. If you are not able to pay off your loan, the king will pay it for you. If you are stuck in another country due to the pandemic and cannot afford the medical bills, , the king will rent a flat for you to quarantine yourself. If you are inside the county and needs quarantine , he books your stay in all the luxury hotels with the best food and full wifi.. I mean I can’t even count the blessings. @Very Good LMFAO!!! twisting information. I see what you did there, falsely spreading info about the 500 mob which I gave in another comment when they are only a size of what? 100th of the wider lllegal immigrants and anti-nationals trying to overthrow the government.

@Very Good During the 18th and 19th century Bhutan's population was only around 100,000 so suddenly during the 20th century how did population in southern Bhutan increase drastically? Also during the invasion of British India in 1864, the troops defending Bhutan were from western and eastern Bhutan as there wasn't much people living in southern Bhutan. Historically there is proof that massive immigration happened during the 1900s which led to massive population in southern Bhutan.

@Very Good "Wait until some crazy Lhosampa will start a protest or vandalism.....", No wonder your kind got kicked out, expecting another individual to commit the same vile act as you lot did. The truth = Dissidents falsely spread information to innocents stating that the government was trying to erase their culture, tradition and identity to gain support for their own agendas, even forcing those who didn't want to participate in their activities otherwise threaten them with their heads on stakes including their own.

Oh wait! you don't because they aren't. You're an embarrassment to Hinduism and Hindus considering what you're doing is in complete contrast to your religion's teachings. Honestly, just come out with it and accept you're one of those individuals who've been using religion as nothing but a means to further your own propaganda. No different from the colonizers that used their own religion to justify their actions I say. Pity you that while the world has or is moving on from such acts, there seem to be some still stuck with that kind of mentality. You belonging to the latter, sad!

Before watching this video, I didn't know about the rebellion by ethnic Nepalese people and the crack down by the government. All I remember her telling me was that her king is so handsome and wise and that she'll fight and die for him if she needs to. At that time, 2004, I suppose she was referring to the 4th king (in my mind, at that time, I was imagining an old, bald, fat king and it amused me that she was so devoted to a king, haha). This country, I must say, is a good example for everyone to see. Sure, they also had their issues. Their leaders have also faced problems along with their ways, but what amazed me is how they were able to lead their people in an inclusive manner. Man, just look at how their people love their leader! It only shows how much they respect and honor them. And, for your people to actually adore you that much, you must really be good in many ways. Bhutan's system may have changed, but their leader's goal and dedication to his people are still very evident. Truly, in order to make your country flourish, everyone must be involved. The success of your land cannot only be determined by one mind but a whole nation. I wish nothing but the best for this small nation. I hope I can visit this beautiful and calm place once everything becomes better.

Nobody tolarets ethnic cleansing anymore bruh. Doing it in the name of saving culture, actually it was way of staying in power for the wangchuk elites, not saving culture or sovereignty as many bhutanese are claiming. There are so many countries like bhutan who have several ethnicities and those countries exists, even next to big country. Also about protest of lhotsampas, it happened because u guys suppressed their identity, if government had given them equal representation, it wouldn't happen, but king was there in the quest to maintain his power no matter what.

This video goes really too deep into real Bhutanese story. But one thing I want to contribute to it was when the 4th king became king in his 17, the threat wasn't from China, it was actually from India. When Sikim was annexed by India around 1970s, it was real threat within that Bhutan could be next. That's the reason the govt tried to integrate Nepali as one people so Indian govt cannot do what they did to Sikim. (Pls refer how Sikim was annexed for more info) You have already gone so deep so I'm just contributing to it.

The decision was met with public unrest and a lot of disputes and cry for peace, before the final annexation of Sikkim by India. On 14 April 1975, a referendum was held, in which Sikkim voted to merge with India. Sikkim became the 22nd Indian State and on 16 May 1975, and Sikkim officially became an Indian state. real threat is China who annexed Tibet and His Holiness Dalai lama had to take refugee in India and India welcome them with thousands of Tibet Refugees who are peacefully Living in India. Sikkim annex by India with referendum Of people, They chose to be merge with India and India take responsibility to defend Bhutan In case of Any military threat From China

Mm, Buthan drove brutally out all their citizens they did not want. Happy country. I would like to drive also all our citizens out, l do not like. We would be also a happy country to me, but l would like to hear the outcry of the world. I don’t see happiness on many faces of this secluded, isolated country, where they work very hard long hours to make a living. The poor little monk boys, who do not live with their families for various reasons, like poverty, orphaned, and so on do not look happy, either did they look happy in Tibet. But to live without all the rubbish, and environmental disasters we “Westerners” produce has something very appealing. Everything has its price. I am not saying, the people of this country might not be satisfied with their lives, but to idealise living conditions in poor countries is not right either. Even in our high-tech society we can make own decisions not to participate in outrageous consumption, and live a fulfilling life, if we choose to do so. No need to worship other countries living conditions. Thank you.

@Nosy ethnic cleansing? or rather cleansing of threat to the sovereignty of a small kingdom that has been doing whatever it can to preserve it's independence. If it was ethnic cleansing indeed, why do several ethinicities still coexist peacefully there with equal excess to everything. Why just a bunch. A small country like Bhutan cannot afford to be divided from within especially when there are several threats from outside. The rulers have fought to unify the country and a bunch of immigrants revolts against the very idea of unity that has played a major role in its sovereignty ; politics isn't always about roses. A king had to do what he could at that time to keep the country standing.

There are various issues with the documentary in the 1st half. Some of the major points are below. 1)The documentary skipped the history of the entire 19th century and introduced British only in the 20th century. This is a huge skip of more than 100 years. 19th century history of Bhutan is as important as 20th century in leading towards the creation of monarchy. 2) The British and their struiggle with Bhutan during 18th and 19th century was omitted. It is to be noted that British India annexed many contested regions of Bhutan by the end of 19th century, in the course making Bhutan wearker in economic resources and politically. 3) Before the monarchy was established, Bhutan was ruled by Dev Raja and Dharma Raja and those posts were of political and religious stature and both were not hereditary. This part of history seems to be ignored. 4) Bhutanese civil war is too simplified in the documentary while it wasnt as simple as it is shown. The points i've mentioned above are just few among the many that needs to be discussed. Though I can understand that there is crunch of limited time but then a short description might have been sufficient. But i need to point out that there is a clear omission of many important historical events in the documentary. Therefore, the documentary can be concluded as weak and it reflects a narrative which is selective and biased. Regards.

It is true that the monarch of Bhutan basically imposed democracy on its subjects. The Bhutanese people never asked for it. But there is a very practical reason for the Bhutan royals to do so. And the reason is Sikkim. India has for years worked to annex Sikkim and finally pushed for the Sikkimese to vote whether for the monarchy or for democracy, not knowing that voting for democracy meant their country being annexed by India. The Sikkimese people voted for democracy. And Sikkim was annexed by India in 1975 when India rolled its column of army trucks into Gangtok and kidnapped the monarch and kept him in house arrest for the rest of his life. His wife the American Queen Hope Cooke managed to flee the country and came back to the US before the Indians moved in. It is better to lose your power rather than lose your country. Today India cannot use democracy as a pretext to annex Bhutan. But India's ambitions on Bhutan have not diminished. The world should keep an eye on India and make sure what happened to Sikkim will not happen to Bhutan. Kuwaitis are lucky because the US drives Iraq out of Kuwait and restore the kingdom's independence. Not so for the Sikkimese.

@@thendino1 Yeah right. Blame China. Sikkim was a neighbor of China for several hundred years. India didn't even exist during this period of time. It is only after India was created in 1947 that it starts threatening and invading its neighbors, basically continue to do what the British Raj has been doing all along. This is actually how India itself was created in the first place.
@damiencastillo6216
@damiencastillo6216 3 жыл бұрын
Yep India didn't exist as a united political entity. But China was never a neighbor of Sikkim until it invaded Tibet and subjugated it's people and culture. But by then the political entity of British India and then India had already been not just a neighbor but a friend and international sponsor for more than a century. I'm very sorry CCP propaganda doesn't really teach even the wumao the full facts.
@PomegranateChocolate
@PomegranateChocolate 3 жыл бұрын
@@damiencastillo6216 Usual nonsense of left is right and the top is down. The one that invaded Tibet is first the British (no surprise there) because it once had an empire in the subcontinent and then India after the British have left South Asia. Ever heard of the Younghusband expedition into Tibet? Is that an invasion? In fact, there was a massacre of the Tibetans by the British. The majority of the border between the British Raj and the then Qing dynasty of China has never been demarcated but a small portion of it has. That small portion is between China and Sikkim and a treaty has been signed on it in the Qing dynasty between China and Britain. That treaty has been reaffirmed after India was created. So how is China not a neighbor of Sikkim when there is a boundary treaty between China and Sikkim? For decades Indians have been fed a diet of nonsense by their government and when confronted with facts and has no way to refute them the standard response is to dismiss it as CCP propaganda. This is getting old. The propaganda is from the Indian government.
