Vegetarian and Raw Food Cafe "Ukrop". St Petersburg, Russia

"Ukrop" (Russian for "fennel, dill") is a vegetarian and raw food cafe and restaurant in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Nowadays, opened four locations and all of them located in the historical center of the city - Central District and Vasilievsky Island.
Eco-friendly design, vegetarian menu and raw foods.
I went to the one at Marata st., 23.
My order was:
Qutab "Ukrop"
Thinly rolled dough with melted cheese and greens. Green dough from whole grain flour and lime leaves. Served with Mac and cheese sauce.
Thai Salad
Chopped vegetables salad with pineapple, soy asparagus, fried nuts and mango dressing.
Garnished Steak
Fried slice of tofu in a soy sauce and smoked paprika. Green mashed potatoes made of celery root, cauliflower and spinach. Cheese sauce and spice arugula leaves.
Raspberry mousse with whole raspberries and cedar milk filling.

I was in Saint Petersburg last December for my third time. I love the variety of restaurants and cuisine there. As an American, I enjoyed the strength of the dollar and low costs. Hey Sergey. First let me tell you that i have been vegan (that's right) which means eating no animals products what so ever from my diet for the past 2 years. So this was a suprise to me to see this video and your open minded view on the vegetarian diet :) And let me tell you... As much as i would like to impose my own views and say that vegetarian or vegan diet is for everyone i have found out it's not for many reasons. The scenery of StP from this cafe is amazing. It's always a pleasure watching your videos. It has given more insight and interest in to Russia. I have also started a beginners course of russian at university. in Russia its hard to bee a vegan, because more then half of the year there is not fresh and pure vegetables and fruits. And when y had to go to work in -30 - its just inpossible. Try too be vegan in Russia without 1 million dollars)

I like eating at vegetarian restaurants as well Sergey, I find the food is usually incredibly flavourful. The overall price is quite a bit cheaper than here in Canada for the same types of dishes. I'm glad you did a video of a vegetarian place in St Petes.

In Russia and some other European countries seasons start on the first day of the month. Spring starts on March 1, summer on June1st, fall on September 1 and winter on December 1. It is called Meteorological season whether in US they use Astronomical season. So spring officially starts on March 1st in Russia.

When you first show the waitress for a short time I thought it was Viki. Ha, Ha She is still to young to work it wont be long my friend. My girl will be 28 before long, I still think to myself she should not be so old. I'm not a vegan or vegetarian though I have eaten at such restaurants here in the USA and you would be amazed how even vegan or vegetarian dishes can sometimes taste just like the meat equivalent dish! Like we have a product here called SLOPPY JOES he's a meat (hamburger ground up typically) in a sauces and I use to have a vegetarian version of this at one place we use to eat and you would swear you were eating the meat version it was that close in taste despite the lack of meat. So ll goes to how it is prepared!!

Could you go to the Museum of the Arctic? Sounds fascinating. Glad to see some veg meals for a change. : ) It just occurred to me - I'm eating 'fishless fish fillets' (they taste like the fillet in a McDonald's fish fillet, but don't have any real fish in them) while I watch this. Generally I find vegetarians OK, but vegans can be hard core sometimes.

I agree 100% with your comment bro. I often eat vegetarian or vegan dishes however, I also will have high quality meat as well on occasions. Point for me personally is to eat healthy well-balanced meals most of the time but also not to be fanatical about it either. Choose your food wisely for your personal health and what you enjoy but any form of extremism will more likely only make you miserable and is completely unnecessary.
