Some of these people have no intention of contributing to society,it's actually those whom they steal from and terrorise that end up paying for their defence. So around and around we go on the wheel.Dirty low life laywers defending and getting off scum bags they know to be guilty.Yeah the working person who cannot afford their own defence that's one thing but supplying endless financial legal aid to repeat offenders is another!

most of the people are wasting the money. you should get a brief. (free) and then even go to court your self run your own case or pay for it. alot of people are wasting money on drink drugs smokes gambling. fobu pants new iphones etc. if you can afford a iphone 13 then you should pay your own bloody solicitor. espially if you get into crimes and what not. why should the working class pay for these Dumb K$$ts. wrecking society.

This annoys me. Last year my dad murdered my mum. Almost a year later, my dad went to trial for 2 weeks and his defence lawyers did all they could but he was found guilty of murder. What annoys me is the fact that taxpayers money goes towards PAYING for criminals such as my dad to be defended for crimes they have committed. He had no defence and the defence barrister was scraping at the bottom of the barrel but it’s purely a waste of money and I think murderers who had intent should have no access to legal aid whatsoever

The true function of a lawyer is to advise you as to you what your rights and obligations are with regard to the system, not to devise creative framing strategies to get you out of crimes that you have committed. As long as morally bankrupt people are allowed to exercise this profession they system will continue to underperform and fail to fulfill its true purpose. The lawyer who said that it was a bad result when his client was sent down for stealing a car, which he actually admitted to, is a prime example of this immoral behavior.

@Donnell Okafor the US prison system works about as well as putting jet fuel into a Tesla! And your right to own a gun has absolutely nothing with a lawyer twisting the system so as to get an obviously guilty person less time. That is not the role of the lawyer! Fairness is not misusing the system!

These guys aren't too bright. How many times do you need to get arrested for the same offense before you at least up your game or switch tactics (or--gasp--get a real job)? And the one who can't even follow his lawyer's instructions at trial...sheesh. He'll probably try to say he had "inefficient counsel" when he's sitting in prison, but he's the one who blew it.

The most galling thing about these cases is that the public endure the crime, pay for their defence and then the limp wristed judges or magistrate do not award a realistic punishment. Even if a lengthy custodial sentence is handed down, the prisons are a too cushy to be any form of appropriate punishment. Accordingly, there is no real deterrent to this sort of pond life and the poisonous cycle starts over again and again. Absolutely ridiculous!
