@@TrendyTryhard - yeah, and I am on the market for another car, and I just looked at the Corolla hatchback yesterday, and that's one of the first things I noticed is that the cargo space is really deficient. @donr8773

Yes, the cargo area is a little small. To make it look “hot” the designers took out some roof, but I am good with the cargo area. I fold the seats down and get two golfs bags in. It is a small car. To my liking, Toyota hasn’t upsized the Corolla. Unlike Honda and the Civic. I now don’t want a Civic party because it isn’t Civic sized now. I know the Fit is the new Civic, but when I considered replacing my 2003 Civic EX (automatic unfortunately)I found out that the Fit got less MPG than my Civic. Boxey styling, perhaps. Civic’s have turbos. I’m not a turbo fan. 2021 Corolla Hatchback, 6 speed XSE, silver metallic w/a black metallic roof.

Gonna have to correct you a bit on the info for the hatchback. The engine is all new 2.0L pushing 168 hp and 151 lb ft of torque making it a pretty fun driving car and very good in corners due to the new toyota TNGA platform and the multi-link rear suspension, especially when mated to the 6 speed manual. Both the 2019 Corolla hatchback SE and XSE and the 2020 Corolla Sedan SE and XSE share the 2.0 engine; only the 2020 lower model sedans (LE, XLE) have the 1.8L engine from 2009 with the 30+ less horsepower. The engine is actually fairly quiet and 0-60 in the manual is about 7.5 seconds. Acceleration is pretty darn good, especially above 3500 rpm, and the hatch only weighs 3000 lbs. Interior looks great for the price range and honestly I've shocked people who come from BMW and Infiniti's when they see how good this car looks in and out. With that being said, I would suggest you do a little bit more research on the car itself and the platform the car sits on, as it is a great improvement over the last generation of corolla's and really puts up a fight with the civic and mazda 3. Glad I am not subscribed to the channel, seems like the reviews are half assed and biased when comparing to any other review on the hatchback anywhere on youtube.

I don't usually comment like this, but I disagree with almost everything in this video. I have a 2019 hatch. I am happy with the acceleration and awesome MPG (I average 6L per 100 combined which I am so impressed with), the 2L engine is great, although the 1.8 which is the one you were talking about, is pretty gutless. And the interior is nice, but there is no room. The back seats are cramped, no storage for anything in the front area, etc. The stupid infotainment might as well not even be there. It's terrible, and there is no Android auto. Useless. I love the car overall because I can see past the weaknesses, but I bought it as a reliable commuter car, which I am sure it will be. (it only has a little over 8,000 kilometres on it right now)
@rightlanehog3151
@rightlanehog3151 5 жыл бұрын
I was typing out many of the same points when I saw this comment. There is no 1.8 engine option on the hatch so why is he talking about it? The lack of interior space is a major challenge for anyone over 6 feet. Toyota is really shrinking the interiors with their TNGA platforms. I parked my first generation Vibe directly beside this car and the new hatch is around 5 inches shorter.

I bought an SE a month ago in Bronze Oxide and love it. There was none in that color in an automatic in my whole state of Texas if you can believe that. So they have another dealer from out of state to drive one down for me. That added an additional 400 miles to the car so they threw in the rear spoiler and all weather floor mat and reduced the price from $20,800 to $20k drive out, which I thought was a fair deal. Sure it's not as exciting to drive as the civic or mazda3, but I bought the corolla hatchback for its reliability, practicality, and of course, its price. While I do think it can benefit from 10 or 20 more additional horsepower, I think it's fine the way it is for the its good mpg. I don't think it's under-powered, but just enough. I don't know how the reviewer drives, but the estimated mpg is 42/32. I got 40 on the freeway and 31.5 in the city and 36 combined, which is very good compare to the competition. I think the back seat needs a few more inches of leg room and the trunk needs to be a little bigger. I don't quite like the sloping of the back of the car and wished it were a little more boxy so it can have a little more space. I have the SE model bc the 16 inch wheels makes the ride more comfortable. My only wish for my SE model that the XSE has is the powered driver seat. Other than that, I would buy the SE again over the XSE any day of the week, unless the XSE has a more powerful engine, then I might have to reconsider. JAJAJA

Usually you are spot on but your data on this is off. Motortrend has the 2.0 manual hatch XSE at 7.5 seconds to 60 and cvt at 8.5. 7.5 is on par with the Mazda 3 (last gen) and matches my 200hp Acura TSX manual which is quite brisk. Interior quality is a total cut above many in the segment. Fuel economy is like 28 and 37 hwy or thereabouts which is pretty dang good. Engine sounds turbine smooth all the way to redline and has a decent sound. It’s almost as if you’re talking about a different car then the one in the video. Many positive reviews on this car with negatives generally reserved to cargo room and a bit of excessive road noise.

Toyota replaced all the recalled CVT transmissions with a much improved model beginning in April, 2019. Mine was replaced by a dealership in May, 2019 before it was released for sale. I bought it, I'm very pleased with it. And other posters here are correct about the engine. It's a 2 Liter 4 cylinder with both direct and port injection. It has no problem moving the car. Its acceleration is just fine.

No Android auto, not much storage compartments upfront and etune needs to be replaced. I know they keep if for reliability, but the competition has better head units. That extension of the dash on the left of steering wheel. I'm always hitting my knee as I get into the driver's seat. Bottom line the new hatchback is fun to drive and it looks good too. As a new owner of this car I can say it’s actually fun af. Even with the cvT when you build the power by slowly getting into it she’ll go, ( 9gears w/ mixed ratios )especially in corners this thing really shines in a ( 2.0L ) engine. Sport mode you can feel the load in the pedal. In a “closed track” I average 27mpg having a lil moderate heavy foot having fun. but. With all honesty even not I still averaging 34mpg babying it on Eco mode and with highway 43mpg. 10 gallon tank takes E15 - 93 Octane 53 to fill up @ 4.70 (E15). All comes down to the driver. Car looks great. Seats give you a nice hug and for being 6’2 the seats sit low, telescopic steering wheel makes it amazing for preferences of personal comfort. Long drives in the things are no issue.. Midsized dogs fit great with the back seats down. All in all it’s a great car.

Just saying, u can get a 2-liter 4 banger wit more power and according to Matt Moran mottorin, and Redline reviews, thevsaidir actually has one of the best interior in its class, better than the civic and to me the elantra, but it is definitely a bit down on power.

Funny watching this in 2023. I’ve just purchased a nearly new 2L GR Sport hybrid here in the UK. Not to be confused with the GR you have in the states. Even so it’s still got nearly 200 bhp on tap. It’s blisteringly quick of the mark thanks to the electric motor.

This guy hasn’t done his homework. He got the engine type wrong, the performance wrong. The engine was a new design in the new Corolla, 2 liters w/168 HP and 151 lbs. of torque. Everything thing I’ve read says the 0-60 is more like 8 seconds. The ride and handling are way better than I expected. I traded a VW Jetta SportWagen TDI w/a DSG transmission. So, based on my experience with the really fabulous ride and handling of the VW (I have owned may German vehicles)this Corolla is much more car than older Corolla. Not that older Corollas are bad. I bought a new Corolla Coupe in 1973, I wish I still had it, anyway this Corolla drives out more like my 1977 BMW 320i (bought new). Not a fan of some of the “high tech “ features, just sayin. My new car, a 2021 Corolla Hatchback XSE, 6 speed manual, silver metallic w/a black metallic roof. Not a gas turbo fan, diesel turbo’s are fine. Civics are turbocharged. I’m looking forward many years of trouble free, low maintenance ownership. Unlike German autos (still love German autos though) which are more costly to own.

Just bought a 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback SE with the 6sp. Came with only 11,300 miles. drives like a brand new car. Steep learning curve coming from a 92 Eagle Talon. My only gripe is it is just a little too low in the front. Scraping the front splitter is way to easy just coming off the road into any parking lot. Also the first thing I did was pull the rear headrests which blocked about half of the view out the rear. This guy is really bad at reviews. Does not even bother to research and or fact check whatever medium he is sourcing his information from. Throwing a lot of personal bias in for good measure to boot. Oh yeah try pricing out some OEM floor mats. Saw some for about $350 from a Toyota dealership! Weather tech will run $200.

@@IeuanAlli your on the money. Somehow people buy cars thinking one size fits all? So people buy a 4wd and complain it doesnt handle like a Subaru STI, doesn't get great fuel ecconomy, then of course the low self esteem people who complain it won't do the standing quarter in some record breaking time. Well for me at least I buy a car that meets my needs, is inherently reliable and is economically sound.. I bought the new Corolla and its great, rear leg room is ok for kids, the trumk or boot space is small, but if I fold the seats down its great. If I want to carry 4 adults I would buy a bigger car and hace to compromise on fuel ecconomy.
