Rebel Moon Directors Cut draws near release by Zack Snyder, but the question is why? The reviews for the first Rebel Moon were not complimentary, and despite Zack ignoring them, it doesn't change the fan reaction to the movie. I don't think anyone asked for a 2 hour longer movie that had the same plot. A movie where characters were still thin and nonsensical, alongside a wheat obsession. Will this just be the same bad movie, just with more CGI gore and less clothes? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

A director's cut is just saying: "I failed the first attempt, let me try again". A extended version like LOTR is one thing, cause we get extra content that was part of the original movie and was only cut for time cause it was made for theaters. But Zack Snyders movie was made for Netflix, I don't think he had time limits, since he is showing a longer version in the same medium, so he could have shown his "vision" in just one movie instead of making two abominations.

"Maybe you'll like it better if we add all of the boring stuff we cut out the first time"

Honestly the only reason Netflix did this is because of the PR. They know the meme around the Zack Snyder's cut and thought that they could leverage that in use of marketing it to boast it's popularity. They hoped to see it trending on X and so on. That's the only reason I can think of and it's backfired.
@xipheonj5 ай бұрын
The other thing LOTR had going for it is that it's an adaptation. The extra scenes were content from the books, the extended edition put back in some of the book scenes that fans wanted to see. The source for Rebel is the movies we got so there is no external source material with extra content fans already know it about and want.
@marcogenovesi85705 ай бұрын
Nope, a director's cut is "for the theatrical release we had specific constraints but I'm a big enough director that they let me do what I want for the DVD or streaming or whatever" Which does not make any sense for a movie that is on a streaming service to begin with, nor for a movie where the director wasn't under any constraint to begin with
@petriew20185 ай бұрын
the combined script didn't have enough content for a single 2 hour movie as it is. stretching it out to six with sex, gore and slow motion isn't the sort of thing that justifies a 'directors cut'.

Exorcist 4 was literally made twice from the ground up. The original version was never meant to be released, but fan petitions got the studio to release it (basically in an unpolished, incomplete state ... some horrible, distracting CGI even for the time.) Exorcist: Dominion is Paul Schrader's take, and Exorcist: The Beginning is Renny Harlin's. Both are technically Exorcist 4 and tell the same basic story (a prequel story.) Neither is very good. The behind the scenes story is more interesting than either movie, honestly.

I don't think Zack understands that even the inciting moment of the film is awful. A large ass imperium ship being in need of grain to feed an entire ships worth of men from a single village is just not believable or even a good kick off point. If say a local base was attacked by the rebels and than the ship came in. That would make sense, they could be possible hostilities between locals and the empire. Slowly build up the tension, me ship needs grain is just shit ass story telling? If they were that bad at logistics they wouldn't have conquered a planet yet along a galaxy. In Seven samurai's getting the aid of seven works because it's only a relative small group of bandits and so seven trained warriors could make a difference an with them training the village, they had a decent shot of winning and it makes sense for why bandits would attack a village as it would feed them for a decent amount of time and is a soft valid target for them. What wouldn't happen in Seven samurai's is if the village got surrounded by an entire armies worth of men in need of food as a village would only feed that many for maybe a day or two . The scale is just so absurd to be believable in Rebel Moon. A single village would get nuked in that universe and they'd just move on to village B down the road, Hell there's a town down the road with far more supplies there.

Except we don't see another group of farmers on the planet, and we don't know how big the population on that planet is. We do know the farmers sell (some of) it off-world, so from that we can assume the agri-world population might be very small, and surplus is generated in good years.

These movies should have been labeled as a Star Wars parody, they would be more popular. For some reason, I went on the Rebel Moon wiki. Apparently, the staff thing the King carries has deep lore: "The first king of Moa was said to have been carried across the desert by a giraffe-like creature, whose femur would later be passed down through the generations and become a holy relic of the Motherworld." We can add the giraffe-like creature to the pantheon like the assassination orchestra, the Coal fired spaceships with Gods and the most sacred of all... grain.
@sigmacademy5 ай бұрын
In all fairness, we don't know if the grain is a staple for the worlds under the control of the MotherWorld, or whether it's a luxury food for the elite (I'm leaning towards the latter). Agri-worlds in ANY scifi setting is crucial for the successful running of any space-faring empire, because not every planet with a colony might be able to grow their own food, and even worse, any ship only has a limited volume to carry its own food supply in.

Once again, hollywood fails to understand basic things. Why do we love directors' cuts? Well, first we need to like the movie itself and want more. Then they can invest into adding the scenes that were cut/changed due to time or other constraints. Apart from that, there are cases where the director is not able to do what they want to and we are curious about what that would be, for example the Snyder cut (which was ASS). With rebel moon, they put put the cart in front of the horse, shot the directors cut, which is the actual movie, then cut it down to make the bait version and marketed it as such. It's literally ass backwards.

There is nothing wrong with having two versions of a movie for two audiences, kind of like how some Old School rappers had clean versions of songs that had actual different lyrics that were radio friendly, unlike today where they just drop every 4th word for radio. The core problem is that the story is bad, the pacing is bad, and the plot makes no sense, so just adding some hawt villain on octopus action really can't fix any of the core problems in what we have already seen.

He IS a visual director. That isn't a surprise to anyone who have been paying attention. Most of the most celebrated directors in Hollywood are, and their "masterpieces" were written by someone else.
@petriew20185 ай бұрын
@@sigmacademy he's not actually even a very good visual director anymore, to be honest. he can put together certain shots, and then slow time down to a crawl to really let you appreciate what's effectively a picture.... but when it comes to actually structuring scenes he's frankly become one of the worst. The fight scenes in rebel moon are a series of neat still frames strung together by utter nonsense, there's no real artistry in the things like camera work or editing... it's just a morass of explosions until time slows down, a character strikes a pose, you have enough time to check your text messages and maybe respond to three or four.... and then the explosions resume. You compare that to the camera work in movies like John Wick or the Mad Max series, which are really immersive extended action sequences.... yeah, Snyder can't hold a candle to that. He cannot tell stories visually.

@dlewis97605 ай бұрын
Theatrical releases get chopped because theaters want turn over if it's a good movie. If you have a blockbuster, the people watching have already paid. They can't pay more. You want the people waiting in the lobby to be in those seats. Also in case, the original was PG-13 and the D.C./Synder cut is R. Director's cuts on platforms make no sense. You can stop and start, skip to whatever you want, whenever you want. Just looked this up. It get a theatrical release in 4 theaters. Then went on NetFlix.
@marychocolatefairy5 ай бұрын
Usually, Director's Cuts have been done because the directors were unhappy with the changes that the studios made them make. E.g. William Friedkin had made what he thought was a perfect cut of The Exorcist, but the studio had him make it a bit shorter so that they could fit in more screenings in a day. So Friedkin fixed that in the Director's Cut.

But in the extended versions a titan stands up and starts talking, and that was a detail so minor that it didn't need to be included in the first cut? What?! An hour of extra content?! It's yet another case of mimicking real filmmaking. There are all the elements of a high budget film, such as expensive-looking sets and CGI, but it doesn't come together as a professionally written and edited film. At least, the first one. Maybe the Snyder Cut will fix all that, but let's not hold our breath. I swear, sometimes it's as if Hollywood has already been taken over by AI.
