But he has a specific style and his movies can be hit or miss. Id hope he sees the criticism of rebel moon and takes that into consideration and improves since its going to be i assume a trilogy.

I'm now CONVINCED that Netflix (and Hollywood) executives have absolutely no idea what constitutes a good script. No idea whatsoever. If they did, they would not greenlight and release such films. They say the "magic" is lost in Hollywood - it's not magic that's lost, its just a basic understanding of the craft!!!
@TheDemigans

I heard the following theory: They first release this movie, then Zack says “oh poor me I was hindered in my great vision, here is the Snyder cut to make up for it” and then people watch the same movie but with a couple of minutes of extra slow-mo for barely any extra cost. Let people pay twice for the same movie seems like a winning strategy, especially if the people who didn’t see the first one then go see the “better” one. And hey Zacky has more than one movie lined up like this, so they can pull it off with each movie! Problem is that Zacky has pulled the “it wasn’t me I could do better” stunt several times now, he can’t hide behind it anymore.

The problem with Netflix is they feel the need to continually put out new content (either cycling older shows/movies into rotation OR creating new IPs). They want to keep their customers subscribed with something new to look forward to next month.

@@RealRabbit1124 blatantly false. For example Star Wars. The OT was influenced by multiple people and was saved multiple times because of it. During the Prequels too few people pushed back against George Lucas which caused it to be a lot worse. And of course we have people like you who think “liberals” are to blame despite obvious signs that the people in charge just think there is more money to be made if they use tokenism and “liberal” things.

I can actually answer your question about how fast Vader would wipe this town out. So in Force Unleashed 1, a Star Wars video game, the opening is Vader going through a primitive town of I think wookies. They have laser weapons, yeah, but other than that they're just a nowhere village without any heavy armaments. Vader just strolls through this fucking town, slaughters everyone that gets in his way easily, finds a Jedi hiding in this village, kills his ass, then finds a force sensitive kid that he decides to raise as a Sith, who becomes Starkiller. So yeah, Vader without any help would fucking depopulate this town.

I'm not sure when "screaming" during fighting became cool, but it makes me think the directors are still living in an 1980s Karate class. If anything, screaming at your target would make them more perceptive of your actions; making them a lot more alert and responsive.

The thing is, I could sort of buy it if the protagonist (I can't remember her name) hadn't been portrayed as a bad ass soldier. She could have been some sort of ultrafast 'stab em up' type. Not strong enough to go up against bigger opponents but she could spider monkey all over them, turning them into sushi. Or if she had been a strategist, someone who worked out the best way to destroy the enemy. However that would have required someone to say "Hang on, our short arse skinny woman cannot take on people two to three times her size, we need to think of something" That would have required better (or any) story telling and character development for *any* of the characters.

I watched this show a few days ago and, until watching this video, I literally could not remember a thing about it. The biggest challenge for the writers had to be that they couldn't build up the importance of the characters or it would become screamingly obvious that this was just a trap since the planet they were defending had nothing else of value. But that meant that, when the bad guys finally sprung the trap, you didn't really care - especially once you realized that the good guys were collectively stupid enough to fall into such an obvious trap.
@Brapbatt-YO

I think the biggest struggle for writers is they have no real experiences to pull from.
@buzbuz33-99
@buzbuz33-99 Жыл бұрын
@@Brapbatt-YO That is definitely a problem. Spielberg, for example, had some real life family experiences that he could draw on when creating his stories - which he did and it added depth to the narrative. However, in this case, they were trapped by the storyline. The more depth they gave to the characters,, including all the reasons why they were wanted criminals, the more you would wonder why they were so stupid as to be drawn into an obvious trap. The writers should have spent more time studying storylines for movies of this genre that worked, like 49 Ronin. Spielberg, again, was able to put out great movies using the same basic storylines he had seen 1000 times as a kid. (Interestingly, Indiana Jones is rightly held up as a great example of entertaining movie-making even though the presence of Indiana Jones had no effect on the final outcome. It was just a fun ride.)

To be fair, every director has their own really bad movies. Just look at about 30% of Spielberg’s movies. The real problem with movie making is that you get big enough to a point where no one challenges you no matter how stupid it is. Directors are trying to be writers in the same movie and there needs to be heavy division between the 2. Look at how few movies turn out good that were written and directed by the same person. You need a balance where the director tells the writers their script is trash or the writers to tell the director the scene is all wrong. Hollywood has become so wrapped up in people trying to do everything that it’s all just become about ego more so then art.

I loved 300 at the time (in fairness, I was a teen), and I still adore Watchmen. Frank Miller did the heavy lifting for him on the former, and Alan Moore and David Gibbons on the latter, so Snyder had a pretty damn good head start. If he’d adapted a _particular_ Superman comic for Man of Steel, I’d probably have loved that too. Instead…

The plot problems mentioned in this video for Rebel Moon could have been resolved with some pretty easy writing changes. Like this The farming moon is under Imperial control with either a destroyer or Imperial outpost stationed on the moon. The villagers are providing the Empire with the grain (or whatever tribute the Empire wants) but are also doing some sneaky, illegal stuff under the Empire’s nose. The group that comes to rob them are some type of space pirate threatening to kill people in the village if the pirates don’t get a huge cut of the illegal activity. This makes the situation where bombing the village from orbit impossible due to the Imperial presence while also makes the heroes have to avoid unnecessary Imperial entanglements. It could be revealed later that the space pirates are actually corrupt Imperials looking to make it rich through extortion.
@Sorain1
@Sorain1 Жыл бұрын
Can you imagine the big twist being the protagonist secretly contacted the garrison commander and offered them a (much smaller) cut of the illegal activity to deal with the pirates? So all hope seems lost and then the Imperial ship that's been looming in the background the whole story annihilates the pirates in seconds? Cue the reveal of the protagonist's ploy under the reasonable logic of 'this is a dead end backwater assignment, the commander here is either a total screw up or got caught for corruption before.' so set up the deal. Boom, big SFX showcase twist at the end that uses the protagonist's ex-imperial background to meaningful effect.
@barnabusdoyle4930
@barnabusdoyle4930 Жыл бұрын
@@Sorain1 That would be a pretty interesting outcome. There has to be multiple factions inside the Empire who aren’t loyal to the new regent. I’m surprised they didn’t go the direction of civil war and the current regent working to take control of the Empire. The best way to have gone with the story would have been to find a captain who isn’t a complete jerk and doesn’t support the cartoonish bad guys that seem to be in charge. Maybe even tie in that the captain served under the general before his fallout. It would be nice to show in this universe that there are some decent people in the military. Plus they clearly want to do giant space battles, but to have those both sides need a fleet. This script and plot needed a few more run through to have made it good. Also this would have been much better as a series instead of a single movie.

Corman's low-budget "Battle Beyond the Stars" (1980) actually was a magnificent seven sci-fi story. And it is way better than Rebel Moon, in every way. I can still recall the seven protagonists, due to them having vastly different personalities and motivations. Robert Vaughn's super wealthy assassin joining up for a bed and a hot meal. And the Nestor clones joins up to avoid being "bored to death". They were memorable, nothing like the drab, boring, default npc's in Rebel Moon. Plus a great OST by James Horner.

You don't NEED a three hour director's cut to do that. And yeah, unless these 7 "rebels" recruit hundreds of more people and a whole fleet of ships, I don't know what the hell they are supposed to do against a dreadnaught battleship that can nuke them from orbit. The lack of logic here is astounding.

I feel like there’s a real gap in totalitarianism. The only place where it’s really been fleshed out is andor. Otherwise it’s always “let’s see the rebels”. Like, why do people even follow the totalitarians? In North Korea, there’s a monopoly on information. In Japan, there was a literal cult for the emperor, enforced by generations of cultish following. In Germany, there was a rejection of the perceived weakness of Weimar rule. In the Soviet Union, there were centuries of brutality and oppression from the czar. What makes space totalitarians any but followable. They have guns… so what. The Soviets had guns, the nazis had guns. What makes them even somewhat sympathetic. What makes them attractive to the people of the galaxy. If they just glass every planet. Why hasn’t anyone mentioned that. Writers get so caught up in a scene that they forget that a world exists. And Zack Snyder is a perfect summation of that. He’s great at directing, he can think of really good visuals. But man. Don’t give him a pen. When we saw the empire they claimed to push “security, and order” to the galaxy. But when we see the first order… they are just glassing planets. Why would anyone stand around for that. Especially when in the first fucking movie. They lose their nukes. You know what the USSR or NATO would’ve done if the other side had no nukes. They would’ve steamrolled. They would’ve went all in. But no. We have to go through 3 movies of the nukes being gone to get that. Where the fuck was the resistance. Where the fuck was the new republic. Where the fuck was the galaxy? And I don’t even need to see the first order/ new republic going at it against each other. I just need to hear it. I need to know that our charachters aren’t going 1 million to 1. Because just like in 300, no matter how many of their men you kill, you’ll eventually circum to the sheer magnitude.

Superman is strong because of the sun and gravity, but he's still built like a truck. Why? Because he pushes himself to the limits, this his muscle fibers do what they do. It's like dudes on tren; they don't just get bigger because tren, like ignorant folk think. They still train hard. Tren, steroids, whatever, just allows them to heal faster so they can push harder. The only exception would be cybernetic bodies, like Alita in Battle Angel. She's tiny, but her body is completely cybernetic and all the strength comes from that body combined with her martial art and experience/training.

Hint, watch the movie on 2x speed. That way the slo-mo will still be 0.25x but at least you get faster to the next action scene. Yeah it's SLOOOW... During the entire movie I felt like... this is a FANTASY COMIC BOOK. The looks, the dialogue, the story, the pacing... this should have been still images in a fantasy graphic novel, there was literally nothing sci-fi about it. Also... I don't want to script-doctor myself to the end of everything Hollywood puts out. There's a ton of great writers! Give them the task! It's such a laughably small amount of money to write a good movie, and can mean the difference between failure and success for your $200M movie! SPOILERS BELOW - does Zack know that if the moon is that close to the planet, everyone would die from radiation? How is this a sci-fi, not even Star Wars did this. - why does the village elder lie to the admiral about after he says they'll give them what they want? - why can a 40kg / 90 lbs girl beat up a dozen armed (!) men by hand? - why do the soldiers just watch each other go at her to get killed one by one instead of shooting her? - how does the fleet not know their soldiers at the village have been exterminated on day one? - why is it OK for us to see the gryphon gut her keeper, even though he just (conveniently) handed over chippendale, in a suprisingly honest bet keeping his word? - what do you think will happen to the chippendale's soulmate gryphon after she did that, and they leave the planet? How should we feel about that? - why does the samurai woman kill the spider when the little girl is already safe, and it's heavily implied the spider has the moral high ground? - Why are the rebels OK with the general who hunted them? The general joins because his troops were killed, he's loyal to his men, their enemies. - why is the alien king OK with the rebels leaving, when we all know the moment the team lands, they will get destroyed without help? Why don't they leave? - Does Zack understand we immediately knew the protagonist girl is being betrayed the moment she falls for the sweet talking, knowingly backstabbing thief? - Why is the farmer able to release protagonist girl from the holding crucifix? Why would they give him the tool if he could do that? - Why is a huge cruiser's gunner sitting outside the hull? - Why does the gunner control the fkin ship's thrusters? ...I could like... figure out some bs in my head to 'fix' the script on the fly, but it's so hard to watch movies like this.
