In real life a man was pulled over and had his money taken by the police. He was retired military and didn't trust banks so he kept money on him. They asked him if he had any weapons or large sums of cash on him. He had no weapons but asked them what they consider a large sum of money and they said anything over 1,000, he said yes and told them how much he had. It was over 10 grand I think he had. He was just visiting family but they pulled him over because he was from out of state. He was honest and they took his money he had receipts and everything to prove the money was legal and legitimate. He eventually got the money back a year later due to various groups. Civil asset forfeiture is more common than people think. Footage of the encounter is on youtube. When I watched the movie I immediately remembered that event, I don't know if it inspired the movie or something. Stay safe out there people.

I've always hated the concept of taking from someone and being protected because the amount they'd pay in court defeats the purpose. I know so many situations are different but I feel like once someone proves themself the victim, they shouldn't have to shoulder all their court fees. If you take someone's money and say they can't have it when they need it, you've forced them to pay for a lawyer. Any way rant aside this guy really is one of my favorite directors. It's essentially a remake of "Bad Day at Black Rock" (1955). It stars Spencer Tracy, whose character is strikingly similar to "Terry Richmond." "Rebel Ridge" is NOT a scene to scene remake; it's more of a variation, or what they call now a "reimagining." But the story and characters are still amazingly similar. "Bad Day" is in color and widescreen, so even though it's an "old" movie, it's worth checking out!

Overall it was a great movie, but the dialogue was a liiiiittle odd at times, and that particular line stood out to me as well, because she'd not really given us any indication up until now that she was some kind of history nerd or whatever, there's nothing in her character that set up her feeling that way upon entering the catacombs so it just felt out of place. Also her "How do you know it's a man?" when talking about her friend in the police department was just a really dumb way to set up a later conflict and plot twist when it's revealed that, shockingly, it was a man! Wow, your snarky "don't assume gender" comment nearly got bro killed, thanks a lot, lady.

Funny, this review came out a few minutes after I finished the film. I must say, I immediately thought of First Blood, but it's just the premise. I was surprised how good this movie was. The thing I liked the most was the dialog. There were no cliché phrases, no filler dialog, on the contrary, it felt like each word was heavily weighted before it was put in the script, very (military) effective dialog. No unnecessary exposition, didn't take the audience by the hand, or insult our intelligence. It felt like every scene was there for a reason. I saw that John Boyega was supposed to play the main character, but after seeing Aaron Pierre, I think it was the better choice. I don't see how John Boyega would have pull it off.

Yep definitely a Reacher type charachter, but not so quick to violence, very well shot and edited + excellent performances, would love to have seen a bit more of DJ though

Best Netflix movie I saw , and kept true to Marine Corps culture. We have an acronym for EVERYTHING. Main enemy should have learned FUBAR before he FAFO

I ignored this movie for a while because the trailer made it seem like it was going to be just another movie about racism and police brutality... this is until I started seeing the reviews and I got to say that after watching this, I agree with many who are praising this movie. It is not just good, it is 'refreshingly' good. It makes me realize just how much Hollywood has force-fed us with the usual action movie tropes that when this movie comes along without the typical bells and whistles, it is stands out brilliantly. More power to the production and cast.
