In real life a man was pulled over and had his money taken by the police. He was retired military and didn't trust banks so he kept money on him. They asked him if he had any weapons or large sums of cash on him. He had no weapons but asked them what they consider a large sum of money and they said anything over 1,000, he said yes and told them how much he had. It was over 10 grand I think he had. He was just visiting family but they pulled him over because he was from out of state. He was honest and they took his money he had receipts and everything to prove the money was legal and legitimate. He eventually got the money back a year later due to various groups. Civil asset forfeiture is more common than people think. Footage of the encounter is on youtube. When I watched the movie I immediately remembered that event, I don't know if it inspired the movie or something. Stay safe out there people.

I've always hated the concept of taking from someone and being protected because the amount they'd pay in court defeats the purpose. I know so many situations are different but I feel like once someone proves themself the victim, they shouldn't have to shoulder all their court fees. If you take someone's money and say they can't have it when they need it, you've forced them to pay for a lawyer. Any way rant aside this guy really is one of my favorite directors. Him and the uncut gem brothers have some of the best movies when it comes to momentum.

It's essentially a remake of "Bad Day at Black Rock" (1955). It stars Spencer Tracy, whose character is strikingly similar to "Terry Richmond." "Rebel Ridge" is NOT a scene to scene remake; it's more of a variation, or what they call now a "reimagining." But the story and characters are still amazingly similar. "Bad Day" is in color and widescreen, so even though it's an "old" movie, it's worth checking out!

@@shill1444 It's actually nothing like Bad Day at Black Rock but is very similar to First Blood. It certainly isn't a remake of Bad Day, where the protagonist has one arm and is up against a bunch of red neck racists. Just because there are some superficial similarities does not make it any kind of remake at all. Both films are excellent by the way.

As a Army Vet who served 4 years 1980-84, I liked the quote. The one thing I can't shake from the Corps: acronyms. One of my favs, FUBRA: Fucked Up Beyond All Reason! They did do their research! On IMDb I saw, John Boyega was originally set to star. However, he left the project midway through filming in 2021, forcing producers to halt production, find a new lead actor, and re-shoot all his scenes. Hence Aaron Pierre!

Though i would love to see Aaron Pierre in more of these roles, I disagree with them making a sequel for Rebel Ridge as they tend to try and go bigger and bolder in secondary films. Overall it was a great movie, but the dialogue was a liiiiittle odd at times, and that particular line stood out to me as well, because she'd not really given us any indication up until now that she was some kind of history nerd or whatever, there's nothing in her character that set up her feeling that way upon entering the catacombs so it just felt out of place. Also her "How do you know it's a man?" when talking about her friend in the police department was just a really dumb way to set up a later conflict and plot twist when it's revealed that, shockingly, it was a man! Wow, your snarky "don't assume gender" comment nearly got bro killed, thanks a lot, lady.

Funny, this review came out a few minutes after I finished the film. I must say, I immediately thought of First Blood, but it's just the premise. I was surprised how good this movie was. The thing I liked the most was the dialog. There were no cliché phrases, no filler dialog, on the contrary, it felt like each word was heavily weighted before it was put in the script, very (military) effective dialog. No unnecessary exposition, didn't take the audience by the hand, or insult our intelligence. It felt like every scene was there for a reason. I saw that John Boyega was supposed to play the main character, but after seeing Aaron Pierre, I think it was the better choice. I don't see how John Boyega would have pull it off.

Just finished watching this. It's the best movie I've seen this year. Edit: I heard on a podcast the the role of Terry was originally to be played by John Boyega. He left the production for "family reasons" and was replaced by Aaron Pierre. I can't imagine anyone else but Pierre in that role. Boyega's departure might have been the best thing to happen with the movie.

Tough screening to find at the moment but you should review “Red Rooms.” French thriller written and directed by Pascal Plante. Was really impressed by this film, think you’d be a big fan

I was surprised how well this movie turned out to be and hopefully we get to see more sequels. There's so many stories of Aaron Pierre's character that they can tell. He's a like combination of Rambo and Reacher.

I just finished watching this film, had not prior info going in, and I did the same thing. I checked the run time multiple times seeing if there was more movie… and there was. In a way this movie slowed time. Felt like a 4 hour film in 2. Absolutely loved every second of it.

Not a lot of people talk about the hand-to-hand combat sequences. Although not as many in the film, it looked very grounded and not stylized. And the directing and cinematography lends a big hand to that

Ah what can I say this movie, surprised the crap out of me, it was sort of what I was expecting but better, it had a really great story and arcs for mostly everything. The cinematography and lighting editing omg. Sound. Breath of fresh air to c this today. And Anna's best performance by far. I really really liked this movie. I heard people didn't really like the ending but I thought it was a bold ending and fitted perfectly with the story. Great ending

I wish the plot had been structured more effectively. The first act felt clunky, the second dragged, and the third seemed out of place. The film could have benefited from tighter editing. But it delivered what it needed to and was worthwhile. That said, Aaron Pierre was an excellent choice for the lead. I also agree with some of the comments, seeing him work alongside Alan Ritchson in a future project would be awesome.

It is freaking hilarious that I saw this review flash across my screen as I was 1 hour and 13 minutes into watching "Rebel Ridge" (on my Galaxy Z Fold 6) so I actually came here to see what you had to say 😂 I'm thoroughly enjoying this up until this point... Doesn't hurt at all that I'm also a Marine... Oooh-Friggin-Rah 👊🏽

I, too, loved this movie. And i, too, thought the believability of the interactions made it better. The realism, if you will. Somebody in a different comment section said Aaron Pierre would make a great Spawn. I couldn't agree more.

I ignored this movie for a while because the trailer made it seem like it was going to be just another movie about racism and police brutality... this is until I started seeing the reviews and I got to say that after watching this, I agree with many who are praising this movie. It is not just good, it is 'refreshingly' good. It makes me realize just how much Hollywood has force-fed us with the usual action movie tropes that when this movie comes along without the typical bells and whistles, it is stands out brilliantly. More power to the production and cast.
