That is a surprisingly easy answer. Practicing religious people are so desperate to get to heaven and see their loved ones while at the same time know that their enemies are being punished in hell that they're willing to turn a blind eye to anything that may jeopardize that eternal reward in their God's eyes.

I stumbled upon Aron Ra a little while ago towards the beginning of these genesis apologetics rebuttals and I absolutely love these. I used to be a strong Catholic and we would watch strange videos similar to this in religion class. It always felt weird watching them and sometimes I could pick up on the improper ways of thinking from them. But in the class I always had to agree and think that they were highly intelligent. This series has really opened my eyes to thinking critically and how circular reasoning works. I freaking love you Aron, I wish you all the best. Beautiful people here.

This is one of the reasons people like Ken Ham & Ray Comfort (from Australia or New Zeeland...) came to USA to peddle their trash. They have found easy money here; gullible, ignorant people who think they have some kind of moral superiority over others, and there's a lot of them.

This was one of the greatest overkills of all time. Honestly, I kept waiting for the apologists to come up with something more interesting, but every point they seemed to be trying to make ended up in the same pond "and the Bible says it, so it has to be true". Right from the beginning. The Bible says Moses said or did something therefore Moses said or did something? The Bible says Jesus says Moses said or did something... etc etc etc. It was great to have Drs Josh and Kipp talk a little about some of those "points" anyway.

I recall an old episode of The Atheist Experience from the early 2000s, and Jeff Dee was talking about how his parents are both ministers, they went to seminary and they learned a lot of what Jeff knows that really undermines the bible narrative. Just for example, the 4 gospels were not written by the names assigned to them (common knowledge in the secular world, not at all in congregations), so he asked them about their plans to inform the churchgoers about thier misconceptions. It turns out.. apparently "They're not ready for that yet". He asked them how they're ever going to be ready if no one ever tells them.

I had the opposite, my final moment as a creationist was when I had been having doubts and did what I was supposed to. I called my pastor. He told me that young earth is what he believed but you CAN be an old earth accepter and be a Christian “under certain circumstances” whatever the fuck that means. That very week in church he literally said behind the pulpit “is this logical? No! None of this is! But at some point the logic ends and the faith begins, it has to. Every day I question and I just have to tell myself it’s not place, if god said it’s true it must be my understanding of reality that is wrong” That struck me as so disturbingly dishonest, I went home that day an agnostic

@@itsjustme6632 I agree with this comment. When it comes to family ( especially parents ), it's better to just leave them be. You're more likely to just create unnecessary friction between you and them than to actually convince them. if you value your relationship with them, it's better to just try to set some boundaries with your parents as far as your own interactions with them ( if necessary ). As far as your sister goes, just support her when you can by helping her develop critical thinking skills so she can figure things out on her own. Don't teach her what to think, teach her HOW to think, and she'll hopefully end up making the right choices.

Also, how did a Semitic family become Asian, Black, White, Latino, Indian, and Aboriginal people (et al) WITHOUT Evolution? (Shout out to SciMan Dan). Another thing - the megalithic sites in France, England, Scotland and Ireland date back five- to six-thousand years ago, in the Neolithic. Strangely, there is no evidence that the stone structures were damaged by a flood, or that the people who lived in these countries at that time drowned. Furthermore, no water damage is found in the European caves that contain Paleolithic art up to 40,000 years old, nor have the Australian Aboriginal paintings that are equally old been damaged by water. And the famous bristlecone pine called "Methuselah" in the White Mountains of Nevada has been alive for nearly 6,000 years. How did it survive the Flood??

Recent life experiences have made me realize one reason religious beliefs live on is that it is relatively easy for children to understand. We have neighbor kids who are friends of our kids that have very religious parents and thus they are learning all the classic religious tropes. Some of that gets repeated to my kids. These are all kids that are Elementary and younger. When my kids then ask me who were the first humans, I find it much more difficult to explain that there were no "first humans" and our species evolved over millions of years. They are just too young to really grasp that idea. It is much easier for our neighbors to tell their kids the fairy tale of the first humans Adam and Eve who were created by an all loving God. By the time you get to be an adult though you should realize it's just a fairy tale.

Wonderful discussion including the ironical 'disrespectful' remarks such as smoking an antiquated scroll coming from someone, Dr. Kip, who styles himself as a 1960s hippie. Bravo to all three. Enjoyed the variation in the style of each of their looks!

About 9 minutes into the video. I am sorry to say that Aron is confusing two historical events here when he mentions pope Gregory (13th, incidentally) and the presumed year Jesus was born. Jesus's birth was (mistakenly) calculated in the 6th century by Dionysius Exiguus. Pope Gregory 13th, in 1582 (Aron got the century right) reformed the calendar, but did not change the presumed year of start of the calendar. Gregory's reform of the calendar (which was due to very sensitive astronomic reasons, nothing religious in it) took 10 days out of history (namely October 5th-14th 1582, inclusive). Oh, and the year of Jesus's birth has NEVER been called "zero", but 1. The number zero appeared in Europe relatively late.

An eyewitness account wouldn’t have the point of view character refer to themself exclusively in the first person during dialog, but third person exclusively for the narrative. I mean, who the heck is pretentious enough to pretend their autobiography was ghostwritten, amirite? Especially in the last few days of their life, the only time when they can possibly know their time of death and burial place.

Good stuff, guys. You know, that question about thee/thou is silly on the surface, but may not be utterly ludicrous. Do Akkadian and other ancient languages of Mesopotamia have forms of formal vs. informal address? I speak Spanish, French, Italian and German; which all have a formal form derived from an older plural address.

I think you are right to point out how the "thee/thou" question is not entirely silly, but for different reasons. Where in English these accusative for.s of the second person pronoun have all bee replaced by an indistinguishable form, "you," in Binlical Hebrew these grammatically useful forms survived.

When was genesis? Well most people would say 1969 with the release of their fist album, but most scholars agree it was 1970, when Phil Collins joined.

funny how in Judeochristian studies "Mosaic" means "related to Moses" and yet in the secular world, "mosaic" means "a bunch of tiny individual things shoved together and arbitrarily called one collective thing." did I say funny? I meant telling.

I always wonder how come there is no mention of the Exodus in Egyptian writings of the time. In fact Israelites are only mentioned about 3 times usually in reference to a pharos military adventure into Cannan.

Well clearly the Flood scrubbed those particular monumentary records clean. A million drowned trilobites could easily erode hieroglyphs inscribed in limestone. If they went through a timeslip. Look, it's as good a hypothesis as any fundigelical's, alright?
