22k on my 23 SR5 trd off-road. I haven’t had any issues with my truck, atleast with the engine having any symptoms. I will probably get the engine replaced, just to have the recall checked off on the list of recalls lol.

So many have said it in the beginning and yet many haven’t learned the hard lesson of owning a turbo being a bad idea. SMH🤦‍♂️ Let them keep lying to themselves how the turbo is going to be fine until they need a new one before 100K miles.

This is good news. Way better than rebuilding them from the ground up. I would actually consider one in a year or two when we see how this plays out. I am curious though, will this be turn key, 100% factory assembled crate motors that are dropped in, or something else...

I’ve been saying all along. It’s a main bearing issue, not debris in the block. The bearings are failing which is putting the debris in the engine. It’s only common sense that’s why the part numbers are changed

I’d almost agree… one issue is a lot of independent engine builders have checked out the engine and don’t see issues with the main bearings… 🤷‍♂️

Yes, but wouldn’t the filter catch debris that was circulating through the motor before it got to the main bearing then why did they change the part number on the bearing because they’re using a different bearings the real reason but I said it’s only my opinion. I’m gonna keep my 5.7 L 2017 Limited For now

Are they gonna inspect the engine to see if it's even necessary to do a whole damn swap? I imagine that most engines under the recall might not actually be affected, so it'll be a waste to do an engine swap for no reason.

My Tundra was built in the affected time period, however, it’s a hybrid. No fix for me. Either hope it breaks down during warranty or sell it. If I could get the swap then I would not want my truck to be first in line. Let the techs get a few under their belt.

I have a 2023 nonhybrid Tundra with less than 15k miles, and I'm hearing that Toyota's going to replace the motor with a short block engine, or maybe a long block, what's the difference between them, and can I request a long block ?

I’d just change the oil at 500 then 1,500. Get Blackstone lab tests on the oil and then service it every 5k, no different than any new car.

I have a question about my 23 sr5 off road thunder and the dealership said my sensor for the battery is not good and the fan clutch so I paid for those two things is 1500 for it. But if the sensor is bad then I cannot drive it or I can still drive it.?

So 100,000 plus engines ,an estimated 15k dealers across the nation an average 6 engines per dealer not to mention other vehicles in the service queue. 5 to 8 hours per customer depending on circumstances 😳 btw this is just an idea of what it might look like.

When I worked at a Euro shop for 11 years I did a ton of IMS upgrades, only seen two factory ones actually fail. Yes it was an issue but I also think things get blown way out of proportion. God forbid it goes the consequences are catastrophic but the reality is it’s a low percentage of engines that actually grenade. I’m sure some Tundra engines will keep failing but the reality is it’s probably no better or worse than any other Toyota product. Doesn’t help Google works so well people can search stuff and get confirmation bias all day long lol.

OutdoorAuto can you review the Nokian Outpost nAT? I want an all terrain tire that is tough but do NOT want an LT spec tire. The Nokian has Kevlar in it, as do a couple other tires. Is this a marketing gimmick, or does the aramid/kevlar actually make them tougher?

I actually caught up with Nokian at Expo West and they said they would send me some tires to test... I need to follow up with them. Kevlar is a type of polyamide, which is what a lot of tire sidewalls are made of... Kevlar just happens to be a specific type of Polyamide... so its is kind of a gimmick but also a very strong Polyamide... so both kind of...

I'd be curious to the fact that the entire vehicle has 5k, 20k+ miles. Is Toyota going to reset the odometer? Diminished value, right?

Thats a good question, my assumption is odometer is not reset.

Odometer resets aren't legal, so Toyota won't be doing that. Plus, the vehicle itself, suspension, driveline, electronics, etc. still has xx mileage on them.

@@Androm3da absolutely right. The new engine fix brings questions to mind, much like you stated. For me, if I spent $60 to 80k, I'd like my vehicles value to remain (toyota's reputation) a new engine restarts the clock in my book. Reported issues are engines and not drivetrain (tacomas as of this video). This issue with the Tundra is compelling how they will compensate owners.

Not a new engine, they are sending short blocks. So you get to take off all the other components from the bad engine and move them over to the new block. What about damaged bearings in the head, turbos, etc. not a satisfactory fix if you ask me. So glad I hate that new style and didn’t buy one. What a kick in the teeth from Toyota.

Woof. One of the worst recalls I’ve ever seen in my life for sure. Even with an engine replacement still diminished value on your truck, not to mention it sitting in a dealership shop for god only know how long. They need to regain their title of a reliable brand, they’ve lost it in recent years.
