I prefer sweet onions instead of shallots. I like a spoonful of lemon juice and a little balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing each time too. If you need to sweeten it up for kids put carrots into the food processor and add the results to the salad. I've come to prefer chopped green cabbage instead of lettuce and celery. It gives lots of crunch and extends the salad well. Crushed walnuts are excellent too. Avocado on top is great. Try adding rinsed capers if you want to experiment. I add them every time now. Tuna salad is one of those great things that you can keep trying different things in it and tasting it and adjusting it as you go along.

Hi Guys, a tuna sandwich is a simple thing, isn't it? As per July 4, there are 773 comments, what to add, what not to add, waaaaay too much mayo, comments like "You're not eating it, so WHY are you complaining!" or "Shut your mouth" and on it goes. Let me tell you what I do: I watch the video, look at the list of ingredients, read the recipe (if there is any), read some comments (that's the fun part), check what I have in the fridge, decide what I want or don't want in my tune sandwich and then go shopping. Recipes are indications, not orders, nobody has to follow them religiously. Trust me, KZbin won't ban you if you don't. And people have different tastes. But please keep on commenting, it's fun to read.

I make my own mayonnaise. I put a can of tuna in a bowl, about a couple of teaspoons of mayonnaise (I don't like it doing the Australian crawl in a sea of mayonnaise), a chopped up dill pickle, a squeeze of lemon, grated carrots, some grated purple onion, roasted chopped or sliced almonds, a little ground pepper and a small pinch of paprika. I put this either on a romaine or butter lettuce leaf or two or three, OR on a slice of homemade Sourdough bread. Yummers!!

Just for your understanding (cultural wise), i live in Scotland, so i don't know if the brands or products i buy to make tuna mayonnaise is the same from where others live in the globe, and it also depends on what brand your region sells, whether if it's good or garbage! My mother use to put a bunch of English muffin halves on a baking sheet, then put a dollop of prepared tuna (mayo, onion, relish, etc), a slice of tomato and a slice of Swiss cheese on top, then she would bake until warm in the middle and melted on top. A little char on the cheese adds more flavor. Then she would put a dollop of yellow or Dijon mustard on top and serve as a meal for easy weeknight dinners.

I make mine with mayo, yellow mustard, lemon juice, green onions, romaine lettuce, salt, and pepper. Serve on bread then top of with cheese, put it in the toaster oven to melt the cheese. Then put some sliced tomatoes on top with a little ranch dressing and it's so good.

Adding salt ruins it for me. Tuna in a can is typically salted enough.

Only if it comes in brine. Hers came in water so wouldnt have any salt added.

Even canned in water it still has enough salt, between fish, which is naturally salty, and the mayo which has plenty of salt. No need to add more sodium to it! And I agree that there is already plenty of mayo and no need to add more to the bread. I always add a splash of red wine vinegar to my tuna salad.

I just made one and watching this as I'm eating mine. My tuna was in water and tasted salty. I only added very light mayo, finely chopped celery, finely chopped Black Cobra pepper (it was red 🌶 already and some Armenian "healthy" brown bread. Simple and not so salty. With mayo its plenty and you dont need to spread it on the bread. But to each his own.

Love a good tuna sandwich. I add about a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice to a 2-can recipe. Only problem here is waiting the 30 minutes whilst it's in the frig. 😊
@roryschweinfurter41113 жыл бұрын
I like to use lemon juice too. And the best way to do the mayo is one sandwich at a time that way it'll stay fresh 4 times as long. And an even better way is stirring in shredded cheese and bacon bits on buttered French bread and grilled to a golden perfection

I use romaine leaves instead of bread. Change it up a bit with one or more of eggs, celery, bell pepper, pickles or chilies.

I usually add bread and butter pickles to the tuna and if I want lemon juice or other spices to it like salt and pepper or cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes

Mayo, dill, chopped celery, shredded carrot, chopped onion, relish or chopped pickles. Dash of mustard, maybe a bit of cayenne pepoer. Then salt and pepper to taste. On toasted white bread, or grilled with Swiss or provolone (tuna melt). A slice of tomato and a bit of lettuce on the cold version is good, too.
