It was not superficial reason Fuad had to do it. I have the opposite experience. I have an Anglo name but as soon as they see me-Asian face- on an interview, that was it. It was only people like me who had given me a chance who made me what I am today. No regrets Gabe/Fuad good for you! I totally believe that white names get more call back, I can vouch for this.

It hurts. I have 2 Latina girlfriends who kept their white ex-husband's names because it was better for them professionally. My own name is Spanish and I've been asked if it's my husband's last name. I'm like, "Um, no. I'm actually hispanic." Yeah, being white and having a Hispanic last name makes people think you're not hispanic. So many stereotypes. Thanks for posting.

I understand his message... however it's a bit out-of-touch, as not everyone changes their names for superficial reasons like he did. Some of us change our names because the ones we were given by others never truly felt like ours. My chosen name would likely alienate me further in a white-predominant society... yet it speaks to my soul in a way my given names never did. If you can't pronounce my names or won't learn it correctly... then the solution is to remove YOU from MY Life... not diminish myself to repetition as a response to disrespect or change my outward self to promote acceptance 🙄😒 So for those of you who changed your names and feel like you GAINED a true part of your soul... Do not let this person's video deter you from your path and self-love. Healing comes in many forms.
