What's more amazing is even adult GRIZZLIES want to keep their distance from that big boy. I spent my formative years on a 90-acre farm in southern Maine, and I can tell you, when asking locals and/or hunters what animal they hope they never encounter (especially during rutting season) in relative close proximity is a male moose. Period. Occasionally some will say a bear, but unlike many bears who are typically skittish of humans, many moose aren't much scared of anything, which makes encountering a large male F-CKING SCARY. Some years ago my sister's mother-in-law and her husband were in one of those large (as in largest-ever model year) Dodge Durango SUVs, and were broadsided by an adult moose up in the White Mountains of NH. Thankfully both occupants escaped with minor injuries, but sadly the moose (and the SUV) didn't make it. SUV was totaled.

We were a good distance away and the moose looked up at us and stared for a long minute. Natural instinct was to freeze. Might have even held my breath. The moose finally turned it's attention back to eating. We had heard stories how they can step over a six foot fence and that they have even derailed trains. There are a few factors at play here. Yes, the moose is large and most bears would avoid a confrontation if the threat of being hurt is high. Also, this was salmon running season, so all of the bears were full and didn't have a need to hunt. Lastly, this particular bear had cubs, so it would be dangerous for the cubs if their mother picked a fight with a Bull Moose.

Oh.....and did they look like claw mark scars on the side (upper back) of the moose? (around the 2:33 time frames)
@hermit62085 жыл бұрын
They do indeed. However I would guess they are more likely from the antlers of another moose that he was sparring with. It looks like Autumn time, near mating season. And if it was a run-in with a bear , he doesn't look like he was traumatized by it. He is fearless.

The Bear had two cubs , even if she won the contest she would have been injured and would not been able care for the cubs or hunt for herself . Animals are smart. Both the Bear and the Moose realized this . Besides this Moose was very large and capable.

I don't know why y'all complaint about the title it represents exactly what happened. An apex predator and a big ass moose had an encounter. Nothing happened, but this is still an encounter because you know damn well both of those animals were sizing each other up.

I'd love to visit a country where you can see wildlife like this. It's amazing. My country has nothing in the wilderness that compares to that. Birds and bugs is about as ambitious as it gets. The big animals just aren't there. Totally wanna go there and see things like this.

Getting to see large wildlife is great. But caution please. Sometimes we get foreign tourists that try to get too close, take selfies etc. I witnessed one Japanese tourist that approached a bull elk on a hill. The elk snorted loudly as if to warn the tourist, but the tourist continued to move closer. Suddenly the bull elk charged this idiot and he was extremely lucky to remain unscathed. These animals are wild, not tame. Bears are everywhere in our mountains and I’ve even seen them while skiing on Christmas Day when they should be hibernating. During the summer, they attack our trash enclosure and I must rebuild it.
