A couple years back I had the honor of working with one of my personal bucket list artists - Andre3000. In this video I will discuss the vocal mic, preamp, and compressor, the recording and editing process, and do a hypothetical vocal treatment. Enjoy.

Been a musician for years. Got serious about engineering in the past 2-3 and have watched everything possible from all corners of KZbin. Weiss you have far and away become my most reliable resource. I actually bumped into 'Ms. Jackson' a couple years ago in a grocery store in Dallas! I knew her before she was famous (when she was just talented) and after a few moments of explaining who I was, she remembered, and we had a nice catch up and their son called from ATL while we were talking! Then she introduced me to her daughter that was with her. (Who is Jay Electronica's too) I was trying not to fan out, but it was super surreal even if I hadn't been up all night on MDMA. So, I think that happened.@@WeissAdvice

I love how discussed and highlighted the topic of “pocket”. I don’t think the average person can really ‘hear’ the difference, but can probably ‘feel’ the difference. It just goes to show how pro of an artist Andre3000 is. Pocket is what separates a great performance from a good one. He’s literally injecting feeling into a pretty straight sounding beat. Cheers

That was one of the best songs on that album and it was an awesome album. Btw that Goody and Busta's right before, it was a good feeling, to me, to see the artists I used to love still doing it at the pinnacle of their craft.

I think he formulates them by feel, and then it becomes a conscious idea. Once he did that held back thing all the takes from that point incorporated that idea.

I find his voice kinda boring…like Eminem’s voice …kind of annoying screaming 😂 Anyway…that pitch shifter worked really well! Makes a huge difference!
