‘Victim mentality’ nailed it I am the partner of an addict and this is a huge part of the process- being mentally strong enough to no longer be a victim to the trauma causing addiction.
@Queerbillyhillgay5 күн бұрын
Addiction is a genetic disease. Trauma is not the cause of addiction, it can be a part of the problem but never the full cause. Also, anyone that was a victim to something can acknowledge that they were a victim to that thing, that’s how trauma survivors are walked through healing and acceptance in therapy, if they choose that route. That person can do that and continue healing without being in a victim mindset. Yes, there are many stuck in a victim mindsets, but getting clean and free isn’t as simple as your comment suggests. Still, congratulations for your partners recovery journey. Each and everyone in recovery from addiction is a miracle. My clean date is 04/29/2021

My mom stopped talking to me. She hung up the phone on me as soon as I told her I was struggling with money and was about to lose her house bc I was an addict. Years later, I moved in with her and my sister in Florida to get back on my feet from being homeless. The tension between me and her was thick. She told me she regretted moving away and leaving my son. The next night I found her on her bedroom floor, she passed away from a heart attack. I blamed myself for putting her through so much stress throughout the years.. she was also my biggest enabler and that's one reason why she moved away.
@lynnharts77Күн бұрын
Also, my dad's side of my family disowned me. I've been clean for 6 years now and they still won't have anything to do with me. The whole reason I even started using was because I didn't handle my dad's death well.
@NotWokebutAwake.20 сағат бұрын
@@lynnharts77 same here hunny... I couldn't handle my husband's death either. Everyone deserves and needs that support system and there's nothing like family. Even if its not the one we were born into. Sometimes we choose our family for certain reasons. And that's ok. I, unfortunately, had no support and even though my family and I are on the mend, my recovery is a topic that is off limits bc it's a wound that still cuts very deep even after 13 yrs of sobriety!! But any support is a blessing for sure! So take whatever and whoever is willing to be there by your side and to have your back!!💜Blessings and light💜Dee from Louisiana.

453 days clean from fentanyl, plus everything else. I remember watching Jake’s first interview while I was still in active use and related so much to him. It’s awesome to watch this now while also being in recovery. It definitely has been a rough battle and took me so many tries but I am so grateful I am still here and had the chance to get sober. If I’m being completely real I should be dead considering everything I did in active use. I think I survived for a reason. This is the longest time I’ve ever been sober and I’ve had to endure a lot of pain to get where I am now. Things are still tough and I’m fighting everyday for a better life. Since I was using hard drugs for pretty much most of my developmental stages in life, I’ve had to learn how to deal with life on life’s terms. I’m still learning and it’s really a never ending battle but I am in such a better position than I was and am proud to be where I am considering everything I’ve been through. I am grateful to be alive and clean, just for today.

Jake, you look and sound like a whole new person. I hope you’ll be back for another update. I can tell you’re going to continue growing. 👏👏👏 I appreciate your sharing your recovery journey. The way you told it, I was walking through it with you. What an amazing family you have. For them to see you through to recovery shows so much love for you. How cool is that? Prayers that God continues to bless you on your journey. I pray He meets you at your point of need. ❤❤❤

His dad is so dedicated absolutely amazing. Wonder how much of his own life like job - which effects income, which effects housing etc was altered with the dedication and love he had for his son xx wish my parents were this good
