Awesome video. I have built and flown a lot of foam board planes and along the way somewhere I heard it was easier to do Harriers inverted, More rudder exposed to clean air ( like a keel on a boat. I always enjoy your reviews, that is what steered me to the Value Hobby Gforce 32, Great motor.

Thanks for the advice, I will move the CG back on my plane, without adjusting the rates, for now, (1 adjustment at a time). I hope that you make a few more videos of this plane. I really need some guidance to setup my plane to its full potential. My hummer has made an impression at the club field. I’ve surprised my flying buddies, my other two planes are flown in sedate circuits. The hummer takes off, then knife edges back & forth, stall turns, inverted loops, etc. the entire flight! My manoeuvres aren’t perfect, & I often screw up. But it doesn’t stop me trying!

Good call making one adjustment at a time. That's my plan too. I'm at 120mm now and will fly it tomorrow to see what happens. I was able to fly knife edge but had some coupling due--I think--to being nose heavy. I'm using this plane and the MX2 to get me used to flying low and slow. Keep on it, you'll get it. Gotta be persistent. More to come...

I spent some time flying after the maiden and made some changes. 1) Reduced Expo from 70% to 55% on Aileron and Elevator. 2) Increased Expo from 25% to 35% on Rudder. 3) Moved CG to 120mm back from 100mm. 4) Added aileron reflex on the right slider. Reflex helped quite a bit on high alpha slow flight. 5) Balanced the plane longitudinally--added weight to port wing tip. I had the CG so far back at one point it climbed while inverted--that was too far ;). Now it is almost perfectly neutral while inverted and knife edge is much better.

I got in 3 flights of the hummer today. My original CG was ever so slightly, ahead of the spar. Moving the battery 10mm had little impact, so I pushed it 5mm further back & another 5mm after flying. The wind was increasing so by the 3rd flight wasn’t throwing the hummer about as much. I did notice was the takeoff required less elevator, & that need to be gentle with the flair, when landing or the nose will lift. (It may be unusual for this type of plane, that I takeoff & land in a very scale manor. To make this easier I use bigger wheels than the kit provided & a metal rear skid). Attempted harriers may be possible. The ESC will be moved, to take out the slack in the wires. Hopefully next weekend will be calmer weather.

Good info. Thanks for sharing. I pushed mine back so far that it climbed while inverted so that was tail heavy. I’m sticking with 120mm for now. That gives good inverted with almost zero touch on the elevator. Look forward to hearing more about your setup.

I'm using the same motor on my Flite Test Storch with a 10x5 prop. It's really nice, efficient and quiet. I barely use 50% throttle and the model weighs in at 1.2kg all up

There were a couple of shots in this video where the power of this motor really shines. I'm very impressed with it so far. Cruising around used low power on this plane as well.

Congrats on a very successful Maiden Flight! I just recently acquired my 1st 3D Plane. Wow! Hovering is a lot harder than it looks ;-) I really like the slow flight and slow maneuvers with these 3D planes as they look very graceful in flight. See you in the Air!

You mention it was flying better inverted on high alpha yes they do fly better inverted at hi Alpha because the stabilizer is not blocking the air flow to the rudder just got to get used to throwing the rudder in the opposite direction good flight good job looks great

Yeah, I've already moved the CG back a good bit and will fly again tomorrow. We'll see how that does. I also think I'll take some expo out to get the control surfaces feeling a little more crisp.

Yes. Fences at about 66-75% of wingspan, and about 25-30% of the local chord. Do not always work, but they are worth a try.

Have the same one from Hobby King, mines a little bit over powered and a little bit noes heavy also. Not so easy to fly as my other planes. Anyway a fun plane to fly.

Great video review. The Value Hobby profile planes look to be a good value for the money price-wise. Are they a good value for the money with the way they fly ? Any other 3D profiles on a budget that you would recommend looking at ? Thanks !

I don't have a lot of experience with profile planes. The VH planes fly ok, but not awesome. I haven't tried one yet, but I'm told twisted hobby profiles are supposed to be very good.

I suggest taking a few coins or small flat lead pieces and a hobby knife to the field for an EPP maiden. That helps in moving the CG around very easily. I also suggest downloading the Trim app by Darajab Mobile. It costs a few dollars, but it is an enormous help in trimming a new aerobatic plane correctly. Finally, what about the rudder? Was it mushy?

For years I used to haul a box of tools to the field until I realized one day that I never used them, so I stopped. Now I just bring my field charging box. I searched for that app and cannot find it. I googled Darajab Mobile and google returned nothing but a facebook page. Jury is out on the rudder until I iron out the CG.

@@RCVideoReviews A friend of mine has an iPhone. He could find the Trim App in the Apple Store, albeit with the addition of "Lite" - whatever that means. I guess you have an Android, like me. Perhaps writing to [e-mail] might help...

@@enriquekramer4590 Nope, I'm an Apple guy. Adding Lite helped me find it. Unfortunately for that app developer his search result shows up about 30 apps down the list even with using Lite. I have that same advance trim workbook on my computer and review it frequently :) Great tip for the app though--really. Thanks for sharing.

I am debating on the Hummer or Aurora of this series. Can you tell me why you went with the Hummer over the Aurora? Also, would I do better to go with the HK MX II like you reviewed over either the Hummer or Aurora? Thank you for your videos

Tough choices. I don't believe there would be much of a difference between the Hummer and Aurora. I went with the Hummer because a few of the guys on the channel mentioned it being a decent airframe. Personally, I like the way the MX2 flies better.

What size battery are you using. Mine does the best on a lighter battery 3s1000. In the picture I sent you, notice I have the battery almost tucked under the wing, barley protruding past leading edge of wing. That's why I have 2 battery straps. Started where you did. It will still balance on 1300, but I like 1000 best. Hope it helps.

I'm using a 1300mah and I've moved the CG to 120mm which is about 20mm aft of the spar. Where is your CG?

@@RCVideoReviews that's real close to where I am. With the lighter battery and little wind it doesn't seem as balance sensitive. Remember I rarely fly with out wind unless I'm in Arizona. Windy cond I use 1300. Also the multiplex pro loves inverted.I also have to work harder with the hummer. I think a 48" wing span would be better, but I can't find a foamie anymore.

I have a Veloxity due for delivery early next week. I am very fortunate to have Cody as our club president...so yes, he will autograph it for me. It might be beneficial to look up Michael Wargo on the Web. He has some great tutorials to get you started in 3D and all phases of flight. And seeing that he is based out of Florida, he could put on a clinic for your club if there was sufficient interest. If so, you could get Louie autographed by his designer as well !

I wonder if quicker servos may improve the response reaction time vs normal sport flying servos? Twisted Hobby’s “Ice” servos are currently on sale twistedhobbys.com/servo-ice-14g-tws1514d-digital-ball-bearing-metal-gear-servo/. They’re a bit more expensive, but designed to perform a specific function geared towards 3D. Plus....they are located just down the street from you, so USPS delivery time would be great! Or you could just take a ride to their shop and check things out...and pick up a Veloxity while you are there. In any event, enjoy your new-found 3D adventure!

I wonder how many times I'm going to let Longitudinal balance kick me in the nuggets. I had the CG so far back at one point it climbed while inverted--that was too far ;). Now it is almost perfectly neutral while inverted and knife edge is much better. The reflex and expo changes helped calm the plane down but I still just need stick time with it. Overall, I would say it flew about 50% better today.
