However, after i bought myself a PC and got introduced to simulations such as Squad and EFT, I'm now hooked on realistic games. It's actually pretty wierd how these type of games have had such of an impact on me. At the same time, one can learn a lot of interesting things and I'm able to put my brain to the test. the AH-94 is really neat, I just wish it had a PNVS turret in addition to the FLIR it has now so you don't sacrifice the thermal HMD overlay when you need to target something with the FLIR. Also yeah the lack of physical controls is a big pain in the ass. Not only is it more difficult to control than it really ought to be, I find I get tired a lot faster playing VTOL VR than I would in something like DCS, just because I'm having to very precisely hold my VR controllers in a specific place and rotation instead of just being able to push or pull on a physical controller.

For GPS weapons you will need to set GPS target points, and you can set a path for cruise missiles. Also the dev has a video showing IR missile mechanics and flares, which makes me think is is modelled more accurately than just the x chance of defeating a missile per flare. I think what the dev has done with this is great! But just can't get into the hand-controller only idea.

Indeed. I found it's a 'love it or hate it' thing. It's alright for just flying around, but trying to hover (in the F45 and especially the AH94) or carrier traps it becomes extremely frustrating.

None of the aircraft in Vtol VR are real, it's a mix of Hornet/Raptor and Eagle to my eyes.
@DFX2KX2 жыл бұрын
It's the F/A-36, VTOLVR's F/A-18 analogue. The F-35 analogue is the F-45, which is a Delta-Canard remix of it, and the completely unique VTOL one I've never used. And then the AH-94 helo you see here.

Needs physical HOTAS support. I find my hands keep hitting the arms of my chair or my HOTAS when playing, so don't play it that often.
@RedKiteRender2 жыл бұрын
I had that issue, but adjusting the stick/throttle positions got around it for me. Personally whilst it'd be a load easier to precisely fly, HOTAS support would be detrimental to the game.
@charlies405562 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t need HOTAS support it’s a VR game not a Flight Sim 2d game with VR support. The whole point is to use ur hands you can even move the HOTAS in game to ur liking like wtf stop asking for it

The developer said in the FAQ: I don't think that there's a way to provide the level of interaction that I'm aiming for while using a HOTAS, especially with all of the cockpit systems like the MFDs and touch screens. Although it may be technically possible with a mouse, head pointing, or some combination of HOTAS and touch controls, it won't be without the clumsiness that I intended to move away from in the first place.

@@charlies40556 Enough people have found physical inputs desirable that they made a mod for it. It add HOTAS into the game, buuuuut you need enough buttons to map *every* function, and there are quite a few (or you have to use both). You can move the virtual controls (to some extent), but it doesn't entirely fix the lack of spring tension or other physical feedback, or lack of precise tracking on the quest 2 in particular. The F45's throttle also can't be moved, which is a pain because it loves to loose tracking when I'm trying to catch a wire. And the AN-94's love of going nuts when I'm trying to hover and loose tracking while looking left....

Those dreadful vr controllers. I really hope one day they allow us to use a physical flight stick for better precision. But dont say this on the forums you'll get eaten alive.

@@gdspy well that sucks. What's clumsy is how you fly the aircraft. I'll wait till they fix the hotas mod.
@SONICBOOM-1172 жыл бұрын
@Patridge I understand that but that child would never fly with precision as one would with a physical flight stick. I do find the vr controllers elegant in this game but they will never match the precision of a real flight stick.
@DFX2KX2 жыл бұрын
@Patridge a child could use the controllers, but a child wouldn't likely be, I dunno, trying to actually USE the tail-hook... Or hover the helicopter.... Both of which lack of physical controls make far harder than they should be. I don't mind the limited buttons (aside from wishing I had more buttons on my Q2 controllers in general), but the axis input is less precise then the T16000's I threw in the trash for being worn out.

Using the Virtual stick sucks, and it killing the gameplay, the Twist function is ridiculously inaccurate, and the Switch to Thumbstick option doesnt work. Its too bad, the game looked great, but the control scheme sucks it.

The whole point was to use the VR controllers you already had to avoid the pile of keybinds you have in Flight Sims. or mouse-clicking. However from a precision/consistency standpoint it leaves a lot to be desired. It's not TOO bad when flying fixed-wing most of the time, but hovering, the Helo in general, and carrier landings make me want to pull my hair out.
