I like how Qui-Gon has to wear a different robe to hide his Jedi outfit in Tatooine even though it's the same one Obi-Wan wears in A New Hope, since apparently that isn't just a desert robe now
@james-faulkner
@james-faulkner Жыл бұрын
I hate the Jedi robe idea. That is demonstrative of how lazy Lucas became. The robe was worn to hide Obi-Wan's identity. If it is a uniform and you wear that all the time while you are in hiding, by definition you are not in hiding. I so loathe all the new television series and movies, I will not watch any of them and I own actual Desert Trooper armour - TK number withheld. P.S. Welcome to the webernets! I have been here since before Y2k, where have you been? :)
@nagger8216
@nagger8216 Жыл бұрын
@@james-faulkner I agree, the Jedi robe thing is a prime example of just how creatively bankrupt or lazy George became. I think Jedi shouldn't even be wearing the same outfits or have uniforms, they should all have their own looks and be unique. For some reason they do this with most of the female Jedi, but when it comes to the guys they all just wear the same brown desert robes for some reason. Like, remember Luke's outfit in Return of the Jedi? Why not more stuff like that? Also, where's the armor at? You're telling me these space knights just wear generic robes in the middle of a galactic scale world war? That's so fucking lame. I love the armor they wear in the Clone Wars, a mixture of Darth Vader's armor, Clone Trooper armor, and their robes and it looks dope as hell. It makes me wish they were using that in the movies instead. I also disagree about the shows, stuff like the Clone Wars and Andor blow most of the movies out of the water, especially the prequels.

@@james-faulkner In defense of ol'George... I don't think the problem was necessarily laziness, I just don't think he had any ideas left. He never had any vast imaginative galaxies swirling in his head... he had a universal hero story, some gorgeous paintings from McQuarrie and not much else. He caught lightning in a bottle and he knew it... and to his credit, he immediately noped out to the executive producer / studio head role.

@Admiral Talax yeah the whole slave plot point didn't really make sense. 1. we know that tattoine is bascially a lawless planet where there's no human rights. despite that watto has given his slaves better living conditions than most people on the planet. 2. Nobody ever goes back to buy anakins mothers freedom. I can understand the jedi can't but maybe padmae could have freed her for the great service her son did to save the naboo. 3. They didn't even need to be slaves for the plot to work. in episode 1 anakin and his mom could just work for watto. and after he leaves instead of being bought by family she would just move in with them.

Something that always stood out to me in eps 1-3, it's suggested by Palpatine that he or his master created Anakin with sith technology, hence his mother saying he has no father. If they just teased her story as an escapee from Palpatine's experiments then a lot of the Anakin-Vader arc makes so much more sense.

I kinda wish they'd make a new statement about the prequels. Somehow the people who think this movie are somehow good keeps growing, there's just really nothing to say and these fans are either brainwashed by content or completely pulling at threads trying to make these films seem good.
@DeepEye1994
@DeepEye1994 Жыл бұрын
I hate dumb apologists too, but I can't help but be amused at how 1984 Thought Police-esque this sentiment sounds "People that don't hate the movie I despise must be brainwashed, I wish we could do something to... _correct_ them." LMFAO I dunno, people like and defend dumb movies since forever, I don't get why some feel like the Prequels are the exception of that and anyone who thinks otherwise must be delusional, especially in an age where we've been proven that even with George Lucas out of the picture SW can still be an utter incoherent nightmare. IMO, if you must care about what other fans think, then be more worried about people defending and demanding more modern Disney sludge because they're "true fans" and anyone who says otherwise gets dumped into the same box as those right wing channels so that all constructive criticism gets ignored and labeled as "toxic fandom". I hate that idiot (who was a grown ass man, not a young person) who said "Plotholes don't matter" to defend TLJ but whatever, let him be an unlikable idiot with an awful take nobody with half a brain should follow and just laugh at him and move on. Making him take that back won't change the fact TLJ still exists and still sucks and Disney keeps finding new ways of puppeteering SW's corpse in new twisted ways.
@bentramer682

@@DeepEye1994yeah I agree with your statement a little bit more now. But I feel like some movies actually make people dumber it worries me we won't see the end of pandering lazy movies, and that's part of why I want people to see how dumb it is. Also the sequels are way more representative of modern movie problems, and while RLM has plenty of hilarious videos talking about them, but I miss the straight up breakdown of the terrible writing (and flubbed great opportunities) those movies had.

Roger Ebert never existed in the time that required absolute devotion to cannon. I think the entire idea would be somewhat foreign to him if you were to bring it up during his heyday. Ebert was more focused on the quality of the film making, both from the perspectives of what the film was trying to achieve and the means by which they were trying to achieve it. Ebert based his review of a film on what the film maker intended and how the movie served that intention. In both of those respects, Episode 1 was an achievement. In the context of the overall cannon? Eh, not so much.

This is the work of a TECHNICAL genius. Lucas may not be the great writer or a director masterfully controlling actors on the set. But! He made these movies and the entire modern day blockbuster concept happen! He pioneerd digital effects (which overflow media content these days), financed the creation of the first digital cinema camera (which today Sony tirned in on of the most succesful camera lineups), he pioneered digital editing and postproduction pipelines. The most quoted and laughed at line from the DVD ducumentary for the episode 1 is: "I might have gone too far in a few places." While in reality it should be the one from his earlier executive meeting: "The challenge is not to make this one work, but to create tools for it. Cuz if this one works, in a couple of years everyone will want the same in their movies." Thats the genius of George Lucas. And honestly as annoying the politics in this it does quite accurately reflect the rise of corrupted politicians to power, and the action part still is a lot of fun.

Laughable. I realized why you hated the prequels and episode 1 when it took you over a year to release your Plinkett review of the force awakens. You LOVED the force awakens. And it must have been hilariously embarrassing for you once the internet informed you that TFA was remake of A New Hope and you didn't realize it. That's why more than half of the TFA plinket review is you throwing George under the bus again. LOL But the thing is, that's what you always wanted episode 1 and the rest of the prequels to be. As much as I feel like RLM accidentally helped fuel the sentiment and environment that will lead into the Disney Era dystopia, I would blame the people in charge for not doing a good job than RLM themselves. It was still their choice and actions that ended up making the Sequels and so many Disney+ shows suck in their deeply flawed belief that they were "saving" the series. Like, it seems like everything people understood from the Plinkett reviews was "Ok, no talking scenes, more action, LOTS of fanservice about the OT movies, LOTS of practical effects and you'll love us, GOT IT!" Even Mike ended up joking "Yes, I did suggest getting JJ Abrams to _DIRECT_ a Star Wars film... but I never said they should get the writer of Batman v Superman involved!" in the Rise of Skywalker review. In a perfect timeline, the Sequel Trilogy should've been like a better version of the Prequels AKA showing new stuff but with stronger narratives and stronger main characters and dialogues, instead we got idiots overriding the happy ending of the OT, killing all the OT heroes and having the Emperor's niece steal their surname and walking off. I thought George Lucas was the big bad guy who ruined people's childhoods? Why do the "true fans" at the helm of the Sequel Trilogy we got seem to despise the OT so much?
