I have made it using the sanded clay from projects. I collected the dust in a tub and used some of that mixed with a small amount of water to make the slip. I keep the slip in a small glass jar with a lid as I made just a small amount to test if it works. I have used it to fuse the clay to foil, polystyrene and itself and it's worked really well

I wish we had had Air Dry Clay to use when I was at school. We had to use the traditional kiln fired clay, but we weren't really taught HOW to use it, so most of the stuff we made just broke in the kiln!!! @RedRockingBird3 жыл бұрын
I store in a glass jar with the lid on, you can make a bigger batch if you need to, but I tend to make a few spoonfulls at a time as a little goes a long way. If no bacteria gets in it should last a really good length of time. I just prefer small batches.

Late comment but could I save leftover slip in a seal right container for the next project? And thank you for this video, I was about to start making something without even having slip D:

Yes sure, just if bacteria gets in if you keep it too long it will go moldy. Lots of people use air dry clay without slip but it really helps keep the project strong, enjoy 😊

If I'm putting this clay on glass would I use this slip and would I need to sand the glass so it's not smooth?
@RedRockingBird3 жыл бұрын
I would sand the glass to give a bit of key, but no I wouldn't use the slip

I would use my small and cheap electric Sunbeam grinder ($30 Australian) to make your slip dust.

Is this similar to liquid polymer?
@RedRockingBird4 ай бұрын
No not really, polymer is different as the properties change when heated, with air dry clay the 2 sides really need to be blended together, if you can’t do this then we need to use a glue instead

I made a small jewellery tray. It was already painted and finished, but the rim/edge is very thin and broke, and there isn’t any piece left that I can glue with the slip. Do you recommend a way to fix it? I will be too frustrated if there is no solution. Thank you in advance.

Could you put a little more clay in the gap, wet the dry edge and add more, then paint over and varnish when dry ❤️
@helenai13 Жыл бұрын
@@RedRockingBird thank you for responding with a suggestion on how to fix it. I had considered it as well, but feared that the area would become too fragile and might eventually break again. So, instead, I smoothed the area and finished it off making the gap look intentional:).

Doesn't it go yellow without adding vinegar?
@RedRockingBird23 күн бұрын
I don’t find that no

Hello lovely lady. I'm sure I watched you put a little clay house together, but I can't find it. Could you point me in the right direction please? Ty

If I make some and keep it in a lidded jar how long can you keep it?
@RedRockingBird3 жыл бұрын
It should keep a really long while, but if you get any bacteria in there at all, from the jar not being fully clean/sterilised or from fingers it will go mouldy, so I prefer to make small batches at a time
